I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

That's rather dramatic, @bizzey! I'm glad you got it sorted xx

SilkieP · 02/01/2025 03:19

Hope everyone has a good New Year. I am going to go off MN and delete my account but if anyone wants to stay in touch can give my email via PM. Just need to keep things more confidential now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 05:53

Just finished dinner (a late one) and got the dc ready for bed. Made lamb chops with Brussels sprouts, roaasted carrots and scalloped potatoes. Going to try and put baby to sleep then have dessert.

I hope everyone's first day of 2025 went well. ☺️

Ohh @SilkieP ..😮😞😞😢.....
I am so sorry you are going to leave .
We love hearing your stories x

But , you must do what you feel best for yourself .

I would love to keep in touch with you xxx

SilkieP · 02/01/2025 11:50

Thanks I loved being on this thread and the kindness. Happy to stay in touch with regulars on this thread but can only do via e-mail (or at least not a public site and likely to delete account here). I can currently be reached by this username PM only, and have no access to previous usernames. I thought they would be shut down but someone said they messaged one.

Deathraystare · 02/01/2025 12:20

@25Penguin @SilkieP
Oh please don't go! This is a good area to post on. One of the few. I sometimes used to post elsewhere about silly things and the drunken vipers would come out at night and accuse me of drinking!! Laughable. They are the ones with problems.

My birthday today and although this should be a happy event I have not yet been paid! I guess cos of bank holiday? I needed a spare hairbrush to keep in my drawer at work so had to reliquish some Boots points instead of paying.Oh Well.

Will have to go out tomorrow instead. Not out out, just to the shops form boring stuff (though might try to find some choccie liquers!).

bizzey · 02/01/2025 13:03

Happy Birthday @Deathraystare 🥳🥳🥳.

Hope you enjoy your new hairbrush!!

Deathraystare · 02/01/2025 13:36

@bizzey

Thank you! I am 65 years young!

Yes, it is one of those pop up ones that are handy i a bag or drawer. I had washed my hair this morning (well, it was my birthday!!!) but could not find a brush. It is much better now it has been brushed.

MyrtleStrumpet · 02/01/2025 13:49

Happy birthday, @Deathraystare!

Sorry to see you go @SilkieP! You could watch this thread and pin it to your watch list, then turn off notifications and only go on MN to check updates on this thread...

I have sunlight streaming through the windows today, casting beautiful patterns of the Christmas tree onto the wall. I thought you all might like to see it.

@25Penguin I'm very sorry to see you go but I understand totally if you feel you must. Sending all good wishes for the new job, your adventures in the future, and of course your lovely family (Floof included).

PS It would be lovely if you felt able to drop in occasionally to let us know how you’re doing….?

Deathraystare · 02/01/2025 15:37

@MyrtleStrumpet

Thank you!

It is a lovely bright day but cold and in UK there is a warning all this week (and next).

SilkieP · 02/01/2025 16:49

Happy Birthday Death

Just off swimming. Thanks to those who PMd me, will be great to stay in touch. Sorry I can't keep posting here atm.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 18:24

A very happy milestone birthday to you @Deathraystare 🥳🥳🥳

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 18:25

@MyrtleStrumpet lovely classic red and gold tree!!!

HildaTablet · 02/01/2025 18:32

@SilkieP I addressed my remarks to the wrong username (can’t keep up!) but hopefully you saw them!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 18:25

@MyrtleStrumpet lovely classic red and gold tree!!!

Thank you!

When we moved in together in 2016 we bought a 6ft tree with lights attached, then went to IKEA and bought a job lot of gold baubles, one of red and a mix of red and gold shapes - presents, bells, stars, hearts etc.

We also bought red and gold tinsel and then we've added to it over the years. Some decorations from when I was in my 20s, some I made from a craft box during the pandemic, some from my SIL with our names on. We try to add something every year. This year we have my glass Christmas tree, but it's not a tree decoration exactly.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 21:07

Myrtle, you definitely have an eye for decorating a tree! I really love seeing theme colours, too. I've seen some gorgeous non-traditional decorations on trees out and about this season.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 21:48

Forgot to liven up the chat with mundane weather report. It's 5c and raining here. Lots of fresh snow on the local mountains, though. Had a medical appt this morning, a brisk walk afterward before driving home and then made very rich hot chocolate and apple cider for Havoc to warm up. Off for a , hopefully, quick trip to the post office to mail off some tax items and then get another good walk in. New Year's resolution is to get back to the gym, but cardio will be walks and jogs outside with dc. Aim is daily.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2025 21:48

And a pic! (Also 2 choc chip pecan cookies) 🙃

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 02/01/2025 21:57

Happy Birthday Death and happy new brush day!
That hot choc looks so sweet Havoc I can almost feel it on my teeth! And is that a hedgehog mug? Very cute

DH is quite cross he missed the aurora last night and has been out the garden hoping it will still be visible tonight, it’s very clear (and bitterly cold) here so might be in luck a bit later on. He decided I needed to see how clear it was and see all the stars, so I was packed off out the decking (in my slippers no less) to admire the wonders of the galaxy. Things like that make me feel quite small and insignificant though, amid the vastness of space.

Thank you ❤️ The trick is to put the tinsel on first and try to hang red baubles over gold tinsel and vice versa.

It's cold overnight but my DH will be doing a supermarket run before 8am, so the car will be beautifully clear before I need it at 10am.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/01/2025 00:18

Hi @ShoesOnFirstThenCar! If you see it try to take/post pics!!!! Hot choc wasn't too sweet, the whipped cream tempered that. 😋

After post office found a massive skate park in a suburb, Burnaby, and ran around parkour stye and across the soccer fields in the rain for about 40 mins then back home. Now roasting off the bones from the lamb chops, chopped up the leftover lamb, cooking down some onion and making a lamb stew for dinner.

Deathraystare · 03/01/2025 07:24

Thanks all for your kid Birthday greetings.

So I was sitting in reception at work minding my own business when two of the porters came in carrying a small chocolate cake! For me! That was very kind of them!

Less exciting news- our front sliding door were shut and we could not open them. A porter came along from outside to open them and keep them open which means lots of whining when people sit outside. Bloody doors, this happens on a weekly basis!

MissConductUS · 03/01/2025 08:17

Happy Birthday, @Deathraystare! We're the same age.

@25Penguin @SilkieP, by all means take a break from MN, but it doesn't have to be forever. I feel the need to step away at times too, especially if I have a lot going on my life. It can be a bit overwhelming.

I'm taking off today and the first three days of next week for the kitchen remodel. Our new stainless steel sink is coming today. I'm going to take some before-and-after pictures and some in-progress ones as well, so I will be posting those next week.

I mentioned about a month ago that DH was distressed when he learned that they were hiring someone at his level in another department at considerably more than he makes, so he asked them for a pay rise. He got it, effective January 1st. I think they were worried that he'd just retire now without recruiting and training his replacement, which would have left them very vulnerable, as he heads the IT department at his company. It's a lot, too, 15%. He's going to put it all in his workplace retirement account.

@MissConductUS

OOh! You are a mere stripling too??!!!

Madness that your husband had to ask for a pay rise. Were they hoping he would not find out??!! Good luck with the kitchen re-model!
