I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Glad your DH got the pay rise MissC unless you work in a government run area (and even then if senior) I think it is a case of don’t ask don’t get nd knowing your worth.
Belated happy birthday Death I’m glad you were brought a lovely cake, did they also sing happy birthday?
I also love the traditional red and gold Myrtle and buy a decoration every year. Well actually two the same so that one day my dc can take half each for their own trees.
We are enjoying the new year with lots of lounging about and a walk each day. It was a lovely clear bright day yesterday but is drizzly today. Plan was to walk over the local hill and have brunch in a cafe but we’ll see how we feel.

mathanxiety · 03/01/2025 18:56

So sorry you're leaving, @SilkieP

MyrtleStrumpet · 03/01/2025 19:16

What a terrific idea, Dandylion!

Sadly I don't think DSD will be leaving us any time soon, but I love the principle.

Well done to Mr MissC for asking for and getting the payrise. 👏

Mr Myrtle goes back to work on Monday so we're extracting the last bit of fun from Christmas and NY. Pub this afternoon, last of the leftovers tonight, chocolates and trifle to be finished off tomorrow. Then it's back to our usual fare.

mathanxiety · 04/01/2025 06:03

Happy Birthday, Deathray. How lovely that you got some cake.

MissC I hope your renovation goes smoothly, with no problems unearthed as the demo proceeds.

I feel I should have been in bed hours ago but got pinned to the couch by Dcat, who is now licking her catnip toy. I was up about 5:30 to bring DD to the airport. We were about fifteen minutes from home and had made good progress because the roads were almost empty, and after we had chatted about looking out for deer on a stretch that runs through a forest preserve, DD piped up, "Mom, what airport are we heading to?" and of course the answer to that was The Wrong One. So I wheeled around and sped off in the opposite direction. We hit every red light on the way but still made it in good time. I found DD's transit card on her bedside table as soon as I got home. I'm going to put it in a card for her.

Lovely that your colleagues helped you celebrate @Deathraystare
Hope you're ok @bizzey. Sometimes we can use if antibiotic regimes which lend themselves to having at home ie once daily depending on the indication.
@SilkieP I'm very sad to see you leave - tried to work out how to pm you but can't see how. I'm on the app which may be why.
Well done to your DH @MissConductUS and good luck with renovations. Looking forward to pics!
Lovely tree @MyrtleStrumpet!
@ShoesOnFirstThenCar it was lovely and clear here Thursday but I was working. Today firsts game off due to frozen pitch so could get a lovely walk in as no rain during the day and no snow now only rain!
@Mumtobabyhavoc looks delicious as usual!
Went for walk today and DS1 played his game on 4g pitch. I didn't go as walking but DH did. DS2 game tomorrow cancelled due to anticipated poor weather.
Took all decs down on NYD and swept and mopped all through....
Back in work and DSs back in school/college Monday. DS1 interviews for med school soon so he is doing some prep though not as much as I feel he should be!

Sprouts, when you look at a person's post there are three dots in the upper right corner. Tap them and a menu appears. PM is the 2nd option. Tap it and you will have a message box. There is a send button to the right of it. You might need to pinch your screen to see it.

mathanxiety · 05/01/2025 04:32

havoc unfortunately there are several different versions of MN. My app version doesn't have a PM option but my PC version comes with all the bells and whistles.

Well, that's weird, isn't it? 😵‍💫

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2025 06:24

Late night dinner here after a rainy and chilly walk through the lights display at Stanley Park again before it closes for the season.
Made fettuccine with asparagus, zucchini, prawns, arugula and cream; and baked a salmon filet with pesto.

It's the same for me. The app that you download, at least on the iPhone, is far less functional than the web browser interface. I don't use it much. On my iPad, I use Safari rather than the app.

We're down to the wire for the kitchen remodel. They'll be here tomorrow morning. We have an old microwave we keep in the basement, so DH has brought that up to put in the dining room. They're going to move the fridge in there, too, but I've just realized that it won't be making ice as it will be disconnected from the water supply. So I may run out and buy a bag of ice to keep in the freezer in the garage. This is going to be a royal PITA.

My dc are both in high school so I am definitely thinking to the future Myrtle.
Sorry to see you go Silkie but hopefully you will be back to update us at some point. You can also lurk without an account I think.
Your story of the airport mix up reminds me of a scene from friends Maths. Glad you realised in time.
I’m guessing any matches are off for you today as well Sprouts if you are uk based?
Love the look of that pasta Havoc, do your dc eat that sort of food with you? I remember having to give my smaller dc meals with everything separated out but now they are quite adventurous. In fact when we eat out there is sometimes mild surprise shown that a dish is for them rather than one of the grown ups.
I woke to up to a beautiful snowy scene though it is rapidly melting. Lots of disruption being reported and some flights landing a long way from their intended destination. The photo is recent as just got back home from a walk and much less snow than first thing.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 05/01/2025 10:31

I’m not sure sprouts but I think maybe as Silkie is done and account closed then you can no longer PM. I had a brief reply to mine the other day but that now says “message deleted at user’s request”.
Miss it’s a pita now but think how lovely it will be when it’s done.

We had some snow yesterday evening, fell solidly for a few hours. Then the rain came and all we have now is drizzly rain and mist.

MyrtleStrumpet · 05/01/2025 12:42

The tree came down in 15 minutes flat and we decided to keep the plugs on the lights to save having to work out which plug goes with which set of lights next Christmas.

DH took himself out of the way by taking down the lights downstairs, taking the stepladder with him. I have to wait until he finishes before we can take down the lights up here. But that probably means he will do it all.

I woke at 7am to see that we'd had enough snow to look pretty but it had mostly gone by 8.30am and has completely melted now.

Deathraystare · 05/01/2025 13:31

@Mumtobabyhavoc

So, another lovely dinner I have missed! We call arugula 'rocket' in UK and zucchini by it's french name 'Courgette'. Funnily enough I was just thinking about this at the bus stop. The guy in front of me i Sainsburys had bought 4 what we call Aubergines and I think you would call eggplants. I was just thinking about the alternate names for things.

It was of course vey busy in Sainsburys this morning and did not open until around 11. I got there at 11.45 but by the time I had got everything and queued up it was nearly 12.45. I start (or was supposed to ) at 13.00 today so knew I would be a bit late. I thought I had a reprieve when I saw a bus that yesterday was on diversion and stopped outside the hospital (not its usual route) so I threw myself on there (don't exaggerate, I hauled myself on board because they never lower the thingy and it is like climbing a mountain!). Sadly , the bus was no longer on diversion so I had to walk back a while. Still only 10 minutes late and a porter had taken over when the other receptionist left! Sadly my phone is not working so I could not tell them what had happened.

Sad news that Penguin/Silkie no9 longer contributing. Hopefully though she can still log in and see w3hat we write.

Orland0 · 05/01/2025 14:29

Well, I’m a bit cross with myself, as I’ve loaded myself up on painkillers, intent on going for a walk in the lovely fresh snow to the swimming pool. Only to try and book to find out the leisure centre’s closed because ‘the car park’s inaccessible’. So the swim’s out, but I’m going to get myself wrapped up and go for a long walk anyway. The peace and quiet of fresh snow’s lovely, and I still find something magical about being the first set of feet to crunch into a fresh carpet of snow ❄️

I’m a bit concerned about how long the pool’s going to be shut for, as we’re expecting more snow. I’m off work on holiday this week, so was hoping to get a few good sessions in 😕

sproutsandparsnips · 05/01/2025 15:56

That's annoying @Orland0 - I do love a swim.
No snow at all here just rain, but you are correct @DandyDandylion all games off today.
I'm sorry I didn't see it in time to message Silkie. @Mumtobabyhavoc I am on the app and as @mathanxiety says can't do it through that but would have gone through the web.
Not done much today but did clear the fridge out of all the half eaten jars and bottles of things and cleaned it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2025 16:35

Sprouts, Miss i see now. I don't use the MN app. Didn't know there was one. I access it via the net, so i go into my Safari web browser (an app) and just scroll to MN which I've pinned. So, I guess that means I'm using the same version I'd see if using a laptop or desk top. Makes sense that I have to pinch the screen to see the send button on a pm as it doesn't fit the screen on my mobile. How annoying.

Was it Dandy ssking if my dc eat what I cook or if they get an alternate meal? The answer is somewhat. Havoc is off veg, but slowly coming around. Baby is good with most things, but I think most are. Havoc was until about 1 1/2 years ago, changed and it's been hit or miss since. Eats pretty much all fruit/berries, yoghurt and meat (duck/chicken/lamb and salmon) but not prawns or beef if meatballs or hamburger patties. Yes to bites of burgers if bought out (annoying, but, oh well), i'd say overall they're pretty good as and it's just phases.

Death, yes to food terms. Here usually arugula over rocket, and always eggplant for aubergine and zucchini for courgette. Bus system and drivers there sound....🤬

I love snow walks, too. I love how everything is bright and quiet @Orland0
Miss inconvenience will be worth it. 😀
@bizzey everything ok? How's your toe healing?

SilkiePs · 05/01/2025 16:37

Sprouts Sorry I did delete account but have temporarily restarted it to send a PM. Had to have a new username but sent you a PM and can give you my email and anyone else who wants it, have given it to some people already. Am very busy at the moment with working full time, DSs 18th and packing and don't know how quick it will be to get email over there but will be in touch via email. Sending love to everyone.

Interesting about it saying user deleted messages as I didn't delete anything but must be when delete account it wipes all pms.

@sproutsandparsnips @Orland0

Well, I love the idea of a swim! Haven't swam for years. I need to start al over again I think with lessons!

HildaTablet · 05/01/2025 19:21

No, still here, @Mumtobabyhavoc! I posted a couple of days ago. It snowed yesterday evening here but then rained today so pretty soggy now. I spent part of today making bread and also a beef stew in the pressure-cooker…much quicker than having it cooking for hours in the oven. We'll probably eat it tomorrow.

Deathraystare · 05/01/2025 19:39

@HildaTablet
Good to hear you are still around Hilda!

My 'Middle' brother (though I only have 2!) got a bread maker from his wife but he has made bread in the past. Also my 'little' brother makes his own.. Not sure if pressure cookers are like they used to be. I used to run out the kitchen when mum put hers on! I don't need one though.
