I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Be brave, Shoes.
Penguinsn, hope Floof is still improving. It's such s worry with pets and kids as they can't say what's wrong.
Your DH will likely be shattered with all that driving on NYE.

Baby's birthday celebration is on-going. 😹
One day for prezzies, another to finish opening prezzies and have cake, another to go out ... it's very difficult to keep to a schedule with naps still needed and getting two ready is a process that repeats itself (iykyk), so I decided to not try to do it all in a day. Managed Granville Island Kids Market today and a bit of a walk outside before it started pouring. Once home warmed left-over pizza in the oven and now have some spring rolls warming. Plan to have more cake and a cozy night in.

Oh, baby said, Mama, again while driving home. A very definite enunciation.

Penguinsn · 31/12/2024 00:42

Happy birthday to baby Havoc

Thanks Shoes Enjoy the chocolate.

Floof is continuing to return to normal mode and eating nuts and tuna and just coming to poke me for a 12.45am game.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2024 03:48

Any other time I would gladly come to your aid, Shoes, but I am dealing single handedly with all the chocolate rejects, including one that somebody nibbled before putting it back. I am the only one here who likes marzipan, it seems.

penguinsn I hope Floof continues to recover. Maybe the return of DH will boost his spirits.

Happy Birthday to baby Havoc! How sweet to hear a real word (and that word in particular).

MissC I hope your Dcats are not too put out by the loss of their couch.

Dcat continues to drink the tree water with no ill effects that we can see.

DD4 is recovering from her ghastly cold and pink eye and will be well enough to head to a party on NYE. I've been hinting that she should try to get an Uber or Lyft home. I am a NYE party pooper.

IWanderedLonely · 31/12/2024 10:37

I'm glad Floof is recovering Penginsn poorly cats or dogs are not good!
We went away in our campervan, but I came down with this awful chesty virus that's doing the rounds, so came home early. DS (who stayed at home) also has it. DH has got it very mildly and is being very smug about his wonderful immune system. I pointed out that my immune system might have been stronger if I'd had a bit more help for Christmas.

MyrtleStrumpet · 31/12/2024 12:54

Happy birthday to Havoc! 🎉

Glad Floof is improving.

Mathanxiety hinting may not be enough. Say she should book an Uber etc on the family account so you can go to bed/stay up late drinking.

Sorry you're not well, Lonely, perhaps a day in bed night convince Mr Lonely to step up.

DH is very grumpy because he didn't sleep well and has too much to do. He needs to go to the Post Office to send the very late Christmas cards. I've pointed out that sending them on the 2nd doesn't make a difference, but having not sent them for five days he now needs to send them immediately. I refuse to go as we are strict about each of us doing our own family's admin. We married in 2023 and I'm not about to take on the remembering of his family's birthday and Christmas.

He also wants to make a wonderful NYE meal from scratch. There are times when he behaves like a perfectionist housewife and puts too much unnecessary pressure on himself. He works full time though he's off until Monday and this takes on huge significance. We will be eating a splendid meal tonight then watching Wallace and Gromit followed by NYE excitement until champagne at midnight.

Here's hoping 2025 is a much better year than 2024!

bizzey · 31/12/2024 17:21

Catching up with you all before we hit the heady high of 2025 🥳🥳😉...

My toe is still not feeling 100 per cent so I messaged doctors again with new photos.....

I now have a letter to present to A&E where I am now going to be for the new year !!

As a precaution...he wants me to have IV antibiotics.
He thinks it's cellulitis..

I have chocolate, a cushion and lots of power banks 🥳🥳🥳🥳..

Ohhh man 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

DandyDandylion · 31/12/2024 17:30

Bizzey so sorry to hear that, what a rotten start to the year. Hopefully the treatment will have you feeling better soon. Do keep us posted.
Happy birthday ?toddler? Havoc. I think walking and over one adds up to toddler. My dds first word was also mama, can’t remember what Ds said first, clearly too long ago. Both mine have December birthdays so we try to make an effort to do separate presents and celebrations.
Hope you recover quickly IWandered, I think it’s normal to get the cold as soon as you relax after spending most of December running round organising everything. Shame you were away though, will you plan another trip soon to make up for it?
Your NYE plans sound lovely Maths we really enjoyed the new Wallace and Grommit. Lots of Easter eggs so pay attention.
Funnily enough in our house the chocolate went first. We have lots of cheese and mince pies. Off to a NYE party soon with hotpot, lots of games and fizz at midnight. We normally go outside to watch other people’s fireworks but are under a yellow weather warning for heavy rain. All the local displays have been cancelled so I guess we’ll stay in the warm.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/12/2024 17:32

@bizzey sorry it doesn't seem to be getting better. I hope the next course of antibiotics does the trick. ☺️

bizzey · 31/12/2024 17:34

I didn't panic and had a good amount of food !

And I have lots more stocks ...
Could be fun !!

IWanderedLonely · 31/12/2024 18:55

Sorry about your toe Bizzey, my mum used to get cellulitis in her leg. I hope you get seen without too much of a wait.
Just had a small ploughman's for tea, but passed 1/2 of it over to DH, no real appetite.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 31/12/2024 20:00

Happy Birthday to baby Havoc 🎂
Good luck in the hospital bizzey hope it goes ok

Happy New Year to everyone else!! 🎉🎉

25Penguin · 31/12/2024 22:10

Hope everyone has a lovely NYE and 2025 is good to us all.

Floof has been sick again but still seems better than he was.

DH is back and I went swimming and spoke to a lovely lady there who is a little mouse who never speaks to anyone and she was talking non-stop. It was in the steam room and in the end I was overheating so much I had to go but lovely to chat with her.

DD off to a NYs party. We are here with DS and will have prosecco. We were going to have party food but I couldn't resist McDonalds after swimming and DS loves it so McDonalds it was. Surprised we were the only ones, pre Christmas it was packed. Having a latte macchiato made with DHs new coffee machine, very nice.

Hope NYE isn't too bad in hospital Bizzey and they get it sorted.

Sounds a lovely evening Dandy

MyrtleStrumpet · 01/01/2025 01:14

I hope your toe gets better, bizzey.

We had a quiet New Year with DSD and she is definitely maturing. Eight years of positive parenting finally seems to be bearing fruit. No reactionary denials and a developing understanding that she is secure with us.

Happy New Year.

WearyAuldWumman · 01/01/2025 01:22

Well, went down to the town centre to organise flowers for DH's anniversary and finally managed to get the In Memoriam notice organised.

Did a bit of tidying up today. The house is far from perfect, but I'm just doing a bit at a time. My nod to the festive season is the wreath on the front door. I didn't make my own one this year - the local fruiterer was taking orders.

I bought a steak pie from the butcher and that's now defrosting in the fridge.

Had a diazepam much earlier (lowest dose - worry not) and I'm on my second shot of Great-Uncles home-made plum brandy. It's good stuff: more than 35 yrs old.

Someone appears to have eaten most of the After Eights...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/01/2025 06:55

Two glasses of Prosecco here, left over birthday cake, a Nanaimo bar and some vanilla froyo. Watching NYE from new York on tv. Baby wide awake and dancing arounf. Havoc asleep since 9pm. Bit of texting with a local friend also home and a friend down in Texas.
Got out with dc to the Aquarium today and manage bith Costco and grocery atore before clising. Surprisingly neither were super busy.
Happy New Year to all you lovelies on this thread.
@25Penguin I'm switching back to calling you Silkie.
🙂

Deathraystare · 01/01/2025 11:40

@MyrtleStrumpet

Re: chocolate. You are a brave and strong woman! I declared to myself no more chocolate or nuts but that same day a Tony Malony bar somehow came out of the vending machine and into my hand! I have also been snacking on almonds.

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Happy Birthday to the little fellow Capricorn!!!

My first word was 'broken'. Dad was apparently fixing a neighbours tv and I was there with him!

Deathraystare · 01/01/2025 11:41

@25Penguin

Oh Bloody hell you have changed your name yet again! How can I keep up???!!!

25Penguin · 01/01/2025 11:45

To be honest Death I am pretty close to leaving MN because of some of the horrible threads and the lack of MN response. I deleted my account yesterday but came back as there are lovely people on this thread, another one I am on and someone I pm. But I wish I never had to come on here.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/01/2025 15:31

Silkie-P (see what I did there?) 😁You have to stay off the horrible threads. They are poison. I've been on them and it's astounding. There's a lot of vitriol and goading. I can't imagine people act like that irl, but maybe they do. 🤷‍♀️
Scrolling gets a little addictive, but I'm trying to stick to friendly chats like this one. It's much healthier. ☺️💕

So. I made it to midnight! Saw and heard fireworks around the neighbourhoods. (I'm always amazed people have them saved for NYE). Both dc were awake. Listened to Mairi Campbell's rendition of Auld Lang Syne. And soon after off to bed.
It's a chilly 2c here. Still dark at almost 7:30 and I'm going to try to go back to sleep. ☺️

HelenaJustina · 01/01/2025 18:26

Happy New Year everyone! I also stayed up for the fireworks last night, the London display was spectacular. We had a lovely 5 course dinner at home, the DC were all on great form. Amazing news about baby @Mumtobabyhavoc ’s first words. It’s a gorgeous age.

DandyDandylion · 01/01/2025 18:31

It’s a shame it has got so argumentative on here but I think it is a side effect of it being so big and also anonymous. That said plenty of people do post vile things under their real name elsewhere. I came on about 20 years ago and it was a different place with lots of well known posters. I think the daily fail lazy journalism of making up articles based on classic threads brought the masses in.
I am shattered today after staying up late last night and being up reasonably early to feed the animals. Managed a short family walk and now we are watching the first of the Royal Institution lectures.

MissConductUS · 01/01/2025 18:43

Happy New Year, everyone!

Happy Birthday to baby Havoc. Today is DH's birthday, but we're just having a quiet day and continuing to prepare the kitchen by clearing everything out.

@25Penguin, stay off of those threads. They're not worth the space they take up in your head. I'm very selective about the threads I post on here. It's down to this one and the long-running Ukraine thread.

bizzey, good luck at A&E. I expect they'll be busy today.

We're going to FaceTime DD and SiL shortly. I picked up cupcakes for DH's birthday and he's making ham and au gratin potatoes for dinner.

Happy New Year to all!

Dcat and spent a quiet evening watching Miss Marple on Britbox.

I ended up schlepping DD to and from the party. The streets were almost deserted, with a few snowflakes blowing about, and I drove through successive sets of green lights for much of the trip both ways.

It was a hopping party by the sound of it and to judge from the evidence in the background of the many photos she took of the chonky cat of the hostess. She ate a good deal of Puerto Rican food, lost at Jenga twice, and had to drink two shots of Malort, a famously foul local spirit that tastes like rubber bands/ bug spray. She sounds a little croaky this morning, but still did her yoga and is currently giving her room a little tidy.

I went to Mass early (holy day of obligation here) and listened to the New Year's Day concert from Vienna on the radio when I got home. There's almost nobody out apart from the usual dog walkers and serious runners.

mathanxiety · 01/01/2025 19:08

bizzey hope you're OK.

Happy Birthday to your DH, MissC.

bizzey · 01/01/2025 20:02

Well ...Happy New year to you all 🥳🥳🤗...

And what a start !!! 😅🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣!!

I got to the hospital yesterday and went to get my phone out as I had screenshoted the letter from my GP .......

NO PHONE !!!! 😮😮😮..😭😭😭....

It must have fell out in the cab.

So I was stuck at the hospital with no phone , no letter and no debit card /way to pay ....
I had a bit of cash .

I didn't stay !

I begged the bus driver to let me on ..(they don't take cash anymore...just contactless)

I must have looked and sounded desperate as he let me on!!

I phoned UBER they said they would see what they could do ....and went to bed at 10pm ....there were tears 🤣🤣!!

Long story short ...lots of messages and driver rang me ... thankfully I still have landline so I had another number for him to contact me ....
And I am now reunited withy phone 💖💖...

He came round with it ...and didn't want to take the money I was offering..

I said please do as I didn't want him out of pocket with petrol or time .

I didn't realise how much was on my phone that was going to be a nightmare to sort if I didn't get it back 😅🤦‍♀️...

I am definitely to have to sort out some back up system for my laptop ...

I think I can now fully agré with my boys when they say I am more addicted to my phone than their generation, of who gets the bad reputation for being addicted to their phones 😅😅..

So ..... tomorrow I will head off to the hospital again !

I will go early morning so hopefully I will be home in the evening if they do do an IV antibiotics.

Don't know how long they take to go through?

🥳🥳🥳🥳
