What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

@ChallahPlaiter it didn't add the pic! This is the one they have at Sainsburys.

Yes that’s the one!

I agree it's nice. I was chatting to one of the young shelf stackers in my local store about it and he said he used to have it as a dessert mixed with hot choc powder. He said he was half polish and it's a 'thing' for them.

My husband’s European and he eats cottage cheese with sugar!

I would like to eat fresh fruit from a supermarket that actually tastes of fruit, apples have no taste, it’s just like eating crunchy water.

I've found that some of the more unusual varieties sold in Waitrose are much better, but they cost more though unfortunately.

Incidentally I love how they state the variety on the packet as it's meant I can Google and find where to buy a tree and grow them myself if I want. Some of them are available in dwarf/patio sizes so ideal even if you don't have more than a balcony 😎

I'll have to try it with a sweet accompaniment myself then... cheese goes well with fruit so perhaps I'll try it with jam. 🤔

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats oh yes….the Potato Puff….they were just bloody heavenly! Miss those!

Bendicks Mint Selection used to have two thin mint creams…one was dark chocolate and the other was white chocolate…they updated them a few years back and took those out…now just four varieties in the box….gutted.

DearSnail · 15/11/2024 21:51

Cadbury bringing back the Wispa Gold which is 🤢 but not the far superior mint version.

"Roger & Gallet. Lovely perfume and shower gel. Still available all over Europe, but not in the UK. I just went on their website to check, and put in "London" - nearest stockist was Boulogne."

I'm sure I've seen this in various small pharmacies and also M&S.

When they made the coins smaller. 5/10/50p... I'm looking you!

fanaticalfairy · 15/11/2024 22:21

Weirdly, despite Cadbury chocolate tasting like arse now, sales have increased 9% ..

I had a borderline chocolate problem until my early to mid 20s, I loved it so much! It is unbelievable to me that I no longer even like chocolate. Claggy, greasy, sweet, nothingy brown paste that makes me cough / feel sick.

Whatever they've done, I'd definitely rather pay 10x more for a decent one-off / annual chocolate experience than never eat it again.

Firm favourites were:
Cadbury's dairy milk
Terry's chocolate orange
Kitkat chunky

There is a chocolate-bar shaped hole in my life that can never be filled....

Also, original time outs and fox's echo bars 💔 but they'd be shit too now, so no loss really

Omg Estee lauder double wear light foundation! I used it for years and it got discontinued during covid. Still haven't found anything good enough to replace it!

Removing the raisins from the bottom layer of Double Deckers a LONG time ago. Still hurts.

Oooh, I thought I was the only one who remembered the raisins!!

You've made my day!😆

PanettoneSoprano · 15/11/2024 22:37

For those sad about vintage squash, I recommend Rocks orange or blackcurrant. It's expensive and you need quite a glug, but it's like old school high juice. Well nice with ice and sparkling water 🍊 🧊

PanettoneSoprano · 15/11/2024 22:49

We Are Tea "protect" teabags. The herbs in the bag bloomed in hot water, releasing a swirling burst of green and pink colours, it was fascinating to watch and the taste was so soothing and, to me, utterly divine. I've never found another tea like it 😭
I emailed them about 18 months ago but it seemed the whole company had gone out of business 💔

As this is my 4th post I won't mention Iceland cheesy pockets...

I usually mix double wear with a couple of drops of serum to lighten it and stop it being so mask-like. It has to be the clear serum though, the white kind doesn’t work.

JWhipple · 15/11/2024 23:37

Fry's creme bars. Accidentally vegan for decades. A good safe treat for vegans, available in supermarkets and Poundland.Cadbury stuck some milk powder in a few years ago. No reason other than presumably so they could flog their overpriced vegan chocolate.instead.

Try Estée Lauder Double wear sheer long-wear foundation. I too lamented the demise of Double wear foundation but this is a good replacement.

Those Guilbert’s chocs look good but there is something (greed?!) about a big tin of chocolates that screams the hedonism of Christmas.

We will now have Fortnums Cherrillossus and Chocollossus biscuits and a signature Datery box (the most beautiful and delicious chocolate coated dates) but would still love a decadent tin of chocolates. Sadly that doesn’t seem to exist any more.

Small change ...

Firdbeeder · 16/11/2024 07:52

M&S Tarka Daal soup replaced with boring generic tomato & lentil, M&S katsu curry sauce gone, M&S original formulation espresso martini changed to the nasty current one. I swear that shop is determined to lose my custom

Deathraystare · 16/11/2024 08:15

@3girlsmama
I rarely eat cereal but a while ago I bought one of those (can't remember what they call it) the small boxes of variety cereals is it called varieties?? All my old favourites. Rice Krispies, coco pops. All tasted of cardboard!!!

@Firdbeeder
M&S used to do a lovely tinned sweetcorn soup with chilli in it. Gone. Have to make it myself I suppose!
