What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Tunis cakes are hard to track down at Christmas yet they used to be available a lot more years ago

Apparently Tesco and M&S have them in store .
I love Tunis cake too 😁

And if they're going to take away the plastic tops of our cream and hummus and cottage cheese, why can't they at least sell separate tops that we could buy to replace them?

My local Sainsbo sells a sort of floppy femidom that you're meant to drape over the top, but they don't fit anything, they just dangle there... 😬

Oh, they're dreadful. What a waste of money.
Laughing at femidoms!

I'm also Arachnophobic, those without it simply do not understand that what they see as harmless, for some reason terrifies others to the point they freeze or have panic attacks, the cold sweats, the rocking backwards and forwards isn't fun or put on, I used to literally go into shock.

It's only since living on my own have I been able to overcome it to the point I can hoover them up but my cats tend to find them before I do.

I bought a spider extractor thing, and ended up taking it back and telling the shop assistant (who looked at me quite bemused) that it just wasn't long enough.

Ahh a fellow spider murderer!

They don't....but we have to 'work on it' because it distresses others that much they are losing their shit and crying over the dead spiders on here for some reason! Piss funny! 😂

I saw this online at Morrisons just yesterday - hope you can manage to get some

Listed at Morrisons but out of stock. Sob!

Same. I can cope with small ones now and just leave them be but no way could I put a big one outside. I have to know they can’t come back!

I thought it was embarrassing to make such an exaggeration but hey this is mumsnet and this person had to go to extremes to be dramatic about something that millions of people do worldwide!

Or maybe us 'spider murderers' are all child murderers waiting to pounce! Good job I work with kids isn't it? And am safeguarding lead....

Oh shit.....😂😂

the hand wringing about spiders is ridiculous. No one gives a fuck about them really surely.

Surprised that trading standards etc hasn't pulled QS for the name Quality. They were Mediocre Street now Shite Street.

Dead right. Love Shite Street, really made me snigger.

I’m angry eating them at the moment. The chocolate has bloomed (got refund from Ocado as I stored them in an unlit cupboard so their fault), no toffee batons, the orange crunch are a horrid shape and have a nasty shell, the fudge is too hard and they are overall just HORRIBLE.

I’m so angry!

I'd rather sweets were decent but expensive as they shouldn't need to be priced as everyday items.

Exactly. Bet there would be less of an obesity problem if sweet treats were high quality and expensive. If, e.g. Quality Street and Roses were £60 for a tin rather than £6 and actually tasted good then we'd all buy far less.

I really agree with this and I’m also sure the obesity crisis is because we don’t get sated by the chocolates/treats we do consume, years ago a chocolate bar would leave you feeling satisfied, it gave you the right ‘hit’ because they were using the proper ingredients, nowadays you eat something naughty and it leaves you feeling like something is missing, unsatisfied so you reach for another bar…..well that’s my take anyway.

PoshHorseyBird · 15/11/2024 17:46

Quality Street. There's something a bit nostalgic about them, we only had them at Christmas and as a child my Nana always had that gigantic tin! Last year the tub was miniscule and they tasted weird quite frankly. Won't bother this year. First time in years. (First world problems I know!)

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 17:52

The shrinkflation is one of the causes of obesity. As one old pack/bar/whatever left people satisfied. They have two instead. That means an extra 25-35% more calories, sugar and fat. People are not going to do that with one product.

Eating 700 calories extra per day will result in a pound in weight gain.

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 17:55

Shite Street have coffee creams if you get them at John Lewis and only selected ones https://www.johnlewis.com/our-services/how-to-customise-quality-street-at-john-lewis-and-partners (at the bottom)

I miss being able to buy chicken breasts with the skin on in supermarkets. It was just a case of putting them in a pan, skin up, and sticking them in the oven, but now the instructions are to brush them with oil. If you don't put oil on them there's a high risk that they get dry on the outside. I don't want to add oil, I just want to peel the skin off when they've cooked and enjoy the...excuse me...moistness (ugh, I hate the word "moist" 😝) Less faff, plus my late dog used to love the skin 😊

No..... all bran are those weird brown stick thing that look like meal worms

I love All Bran, it's so amazingly sugary.

Special K. It's so sweet now, even the supermarket versions 🥹

Yeo and as my husband is picky it’s a large part of his repertoire gone.

LillieLoo · 15/11/2024 18:16

When The Body Shop stopped making Berlin Oleander lipstick 😭

MorrisZapp · 15/11/2024 18:16

Tumble driers! In my youth they had solid metal doors that stopped the tumbling when you opened them. Hot fluffy towels awaited.

Now they're nimby pimby shite with porthole doors and tedious 'programmes'. You'd be as well getting your hairdryer out.

It’s very good!

The discontinuation of Caramac and the horrible, non shiny Quality Street chocolate wrappers.

Try Home Bargain for Caramac. Ours still regularly have it in (I’ve got some in the cupboard at the moment)

Nestle Double Cream chocolate. It was amazing.

Roger & Gallet. Lovely perfume and shower gel. Still available all over Europe, but not in the UK. I just went on their website to check, and put in "London" - nearest stockist was Boulogne.

They don't seem to have their own website set up over here, nor do they seem to be at many of their old stockists like Boots, M&S or John Lewis, but if you do a quick google there are several other places that will sell it, including Notino, Escentual and of course google!

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 18:54

Vice Versas. They were a mid 90s product. Half of them white chocolate with milk chocolate and the other half were vice versa of them (milk chocolate with white chocolate shell)

Walkers Toasted Cheese crisps. Very cheesy.

I know! It is so funny isn't it? And the irony that they love spiders because they are killers hasn't dawned on them either!

You can get it at M&S and Ocado. My mum gets her meat delivered and it comes with skin on.
