What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Gingham perfume by Innoxa (from the 70's, I am old!) - such a lovely, soft smell for every day and got lots of compliments. They still sell/manufacture it in Australia but won't ship to the UK, although reviews say it has a new formula so smells different anyway but it's a nostalgic memory!!

CharlotteLucas3 · 15/11/2024 15:50

Cheese Snaps were far far better than Quavers.

Also, I had been eating Atkins chocolate decadence bars for around twenty years. They'd greatly improved the recipe over that time and were really good. Now they don't exist. There are loads of protein bars, such as the Grenade ones that seem to be very popular but they taste worse than Atkins bars from over twenty years ago.

And (obviously) just about all chocolate has been ruined. I guess you just have to buy all the newer premium brands before they get bought out and ruined. But the original Cadbury's recipe should surely have been protected in some way?

Good thing you’re not phobic of birds. Or small children. Could be carnage.

Ha ha! What an embarrassing dramatic post from you! So you think that I am a potential child killer because I kill spiders? ha ha!

I think you maybe are a tad pathetic in your exaggeration of what you think would happen!

Milky Way bars when it used to have a chocolate centre they were my cheap treat. Then they changed it to a vanilla/white centre and they are sickly and too sweet. I really miss them

Edited

Oh yes, those too. They changed them to Flyte (?) bars for a while and marketed them as low calories. But then they were discontinued.

I have a phobia of people killing other living beings but you don't see me running around killing folk like a psycho killer.

But seriously, here's a thought, why don't you work on your phobia so you're not scared of spiders and will therefore stop killing them? Or is it easier just to spray them/hit them.

And yet you're an embarrassment to yourself with your dramatic comparison there...

I have thanks...5 years ago I couldn't be in a building with one. Now I can walk past one to kill it. So no it isn't easy to kill them.

Maybe work on your dramatics or channel them into something useful instead of making sad statements about something you do not know about - seems like you'd be good on stage with your exaggerated comedy statements!

Talk about putting a debby downer on a light-hearted thread....

I think personally I would be more embarrassed to admit that I killed spiders because I was afraid of them, personally... you may have a phobia but that being the case, how can you bring yourself to kill them? Bit of a sense of humour failure as well...

I thought it was embarrassing to make such an exaggeration but hey this is mumsnet and this person had to go to extremes to be dramatic about something that millions of people do worldwide!

Or maybe us 'spider murderers' are all child murderers waiting to pounce! Good job I work with kids isn't it? And am safeguarding lead....

Oh shit.....😂😂

Someone has! And they're a Cadbury!

Go visit https://lovecocoa.com/pages/our-story

Yes it's expensive... but for a treat and trip down memory lane, worth it.

Gah, I had hope then, but this is too posh.😆 I want the equivalent of a good old fashioned chunky Dairy Milk bar. 'Everyday chocolate', I suppose. Thank you for pointing it out, though.

(Didn't realise Love Cocoa was a Cadbury family member. Have tried some of it before and actually wasn't that impressed, but it's a different thing to the above anyway.)

Maybe read back to see the attitude I have been given for a regular thing that millions do...those are the 'Debbie downers' as you call them!

No one mentioned the fly murderer that I responded to in the first place...maybe no one cares about poor flies being murdered! ha ha!

You think mocking ppl for their phobias is ok? Grand, crack on! I am not ashamed to say I have a phobia. I'd be ashamed to mock ppl for phobias I think it shows your nature if you mock others....

Maybe read the next post I posted....I'd say that is you lacking humour!

Dear god lighten up! And stop derailing the thread!

I miss UM Stewed Steak.

Why did the powers that be have to ruin our food? Honestly I'd rather take my chances!!

Debbie, you are the one doing that! You were the one saying it is wrong to have phobias and can't handle me calling myself a spider killer....and tongue in cheek.

Take a break and have a lie down....you need it.

The triangle shaped crisps that all supermarket own brands used to do, small and salty deliciousness. Also Mignon Morceaux… or the Waitrose version… absolute bombs of garlic wonder.

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 16:27

QS looked like a box of treasure with the sparkly, shiny wrappers. Plus the mirrored inside enhanced that.

Now looks like an insult with cardboard box

I'll live haha. I was hoping you'd come back and say they were available in your area and that it was just my local ASDA that was out. I was imagining you starting a nice sideline in selling plain Bounties. 😁

I’d join that queue. Someone young at work was eating a blue one the other day and we were discussing the red ones and he has never ever had one.

At least we can remember what we’re missing

Danceswithweasels · 15/11/2024 16:41

I recently found out after having indigestion, that Andrews Liver Salts are no more. I backed a bit out of my old half full tub but the fizz has died 😥

TheLeadbetterLife · 15/11/2024 16:46

@RosesAndHellebores
The inclusion of chicken giblets in a chicken. They were banned in the 80s by an EU regulation. Brexit shoukd have brought them back.

Who told you that? I live in the EU and buy a chicken with the giblets (and head and feet) in the supermarket every week.

I collected tokens from Crunchy Nut Cornflakes in the 80s for a special cereal spoon. They never sent it to me. I can’t forgive them to this day. Kelloggs have a lot to answer for!

😆

YES!!! They were delicious!! I once asked what had happened to them- apparently they were discontinued to make way for their vegan sausage rolls.

DAMN YOU, VEGANS! (Shakes fist) 😫

Nooo! I wonder why? I have two pots in my kitchen and both pot them have solidified...

I think that a lot of these things that we're missing are things we rarely bought, or just remember fondly from the distant past, so it's no wonder that some of them have been discontinued... (Some, though, are clearly just perverse and penny-pinching and meant to deliberately spoil our lives...)

Compash · 15/11/2024 16:58

And if they're going to take away the plastic tops of our cream and hummus and cottage cheese, why can't they at least sell separate tops that we could buy to replace them?

My local Sainsbo sells a sort of floppy femidom that you're meant to drape over the top, but they don't fit anything, they just dangle there... 😬
