What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Can't get Schwarz's Thai 7 Spice Seasoning any more, can't find anywhere that stocks it. It went into my favourite stir-fries and they're just not the same without it.

I saw this online at Morrisons just yesterday - hope you can manage to get some

In my case, it came apart under my jumper, and I failed to reunite the components before Remembrance Day.

In my case, I keep losing them. My soft toys with jumpers wear the enamel badges so borrow one of them.

The original bbq walkers crisps. They were my all time favourite.
Also a specific tuna pasta bake that Sainsbury's used to do about 15-26 years ago. I loved it, would buy a few of them every week for my lunch and then it became discontinued. They now do another one but it's not even slightly similar. The old one was really creamy in a lovely white sauce.

Ameliasvocalfry · 15/11/2024 15:01

And they now carry a nut warning!

Edited to add that I meant to quote the post about After Eights...

No..... all bran are those weird brown stick thing that look like meal worms

Bran Buds were lovely though, I haven't seen those for ages.

I'll live haha. I was hoping you'd come back and say they were available in your area and that it was just my local ASDA that was out. I was imagining you starting a nice sideline in selling plain Bounties. 😁

I did go and check in case that was the case, but it also says unavailable for me 😵

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 15:11

https://threestrawberry.co.uk/products/bounty-dark-2-portions about 62p each

While I'm on a roll - Hellmann's Warm chicken salad, thin sliced bread and Creamola Foam.

Toilet rolls are all those big 'double rolls' now, which don't fit in my toilet roll holder.

and Smiths cheese flavoured moments- I used to work in a pub when I was 18 and used to buy armfuls of them to share with my dad. We are both gutted that they were discontinued.

These!! I was just reminiscing about them the other day! I loved them!

Also Ricicles, the cereal of my childhood! Findus Crispy pancakes used to be lovely back in the day and now they're minging.

And not food, but I miss Holby City!!

reesewithoutaspoon · 15/11/2024 15:16

Milky Way bars when it used to have a chocolate centre they were my cheap treat. Then they changed it to a vanilla/white centre and they are sickly and too sweet. I really miss them

Ohwtfnow · 15/11/2024 15:17

I am still sulking about all the good flavours of Quality Street and Roses that have been discontinued for years/decades:
Brazilian darkness, montelimar, peanut/hazelnut cracknel, I could go on and on - so many lovely flavours lost forever and now even the remaining ones are horrible.

Sainsbury’s used to do a scented tea light that made my world better. Discontinued. I wish I had known as I would have bought 5000.

I got a 'sunflower' one in a tin in 1999: still wish I could get it again! It was perfect, pretty scent but not overwhelming. Why do they stop making the things we love?

So many people in mourning for the Cadbury's of old - I am amazed that someone hasn't replicated it and found a copyright-confounding way of marketing it as such. They would surely make their fortune. I'd certainly pay well for it.

Edited

So true!

RIP creme eggs :(

I also miss the original carrot moisturiser - the black pots. ( from The Body Shop when it was good!) All the family used that one.

ByMerryKoala · 15/11/2024 15:18

I miss the tin. The enormous metal drum, before it shrunk and then returned to plastic.

GucciGin · 15/11/2024 15:19

Shoe shops like Dolcis, Barrett's and Faith. I still mourn these shoe shops. Nothing is quite the same.

Heronatemygoldfish · 15/11/2024 15:20

The loss of floral-smelling shampoo and conditioner. Now everything's fruit like strawberry or coconut, both of which make me feel queasy.

Boot's own brand used to have a fantastic camomile one, but it's gone (together with most of the other Boot's brand stuff. Thanks, Walgreen's).

Kallo Umami stock cubes disappeared from my local supermarkets a few years ago. The veg ones are ok but it's NOT THE SAME wahhh

Really wanted to make the switch to Kallo but tried the beef and the chicken stock cubes, pretty tasteless 😢😢😢

Someone has! And they're a Cadbury!

Yes it's expensive... but for a treat and trip down memory lane, worth it.

schmeler · 15/11/2024 15:35

Barleycat · 15/11/2024 07:32

Why?

Because I have a phobia and they need to leave. There is no one to put them outside so they have to go.

schmeler · 15/11/2024 15:36

Freysimo · 15/11/2024 07:39

You're killing spiders? They're harmless!

I have a phobia called arachnophobia....sure you have heard of it.

On the shoe shop front, I miss Bally.

Iwishicouldflyhigh · 15/11/2024 07:50

So because you have a phobia you kill things? Wow!

heard of ethical extraction? Yes, you have also learnt something new today.

No I do not kill things because of a phobia. I kill spiders.

Yeah I have...so yeah I learned you are a Buddhist and maybe you go around sweeping the street in front of you as you walk so not to kill any creature but that isn't everyone.

Removing Worchester sauce french fries. To be honest that broke my heart and Im still not over it.

These are still available in my local Morrison’s!

I'm also Arachnophobic, those without it simply do not understand that what they see as harmless, for some reason terrifies others to the point they freeze or have panic attacks, the cold sweats, the rocking backwards and forwards isn't fun or put on, I used to literally go into shock.

It's only since living on my own have I been able to overcome it to the point I can hoover them up but my cats tend to find them before I do.

I bought a spider extractor thing, and ended up taking it back and telling the shop assistant (who looked at me quite bemused) that it just wasn't long enough.

@Danceswithweasels @meeeeeee1234 this - Asda or Tesco I think - is the nuts if you want a good strong cheddar 👍

http://www.collierscheese.com/our-range/colliers-powerful-cheddar/

I love M&S's Cornish cheddar (used to always buy Canadian cheddar so like it strong) - they have a level 7 which is the most mature and it's lovely if crumbly. Also try Davidstow, can't remember whether it's Tesco or Sainsburys but I think one of them recently discontinued it, feckers!
