What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Ringing your GP practice and getting an appointment that day.

Local Sainsbury removed hasbrowns from their freezers to make way for seasonal Christmas frozen foods. Utter horror

Our Morrisons have done the same with Swedish meatballs. My three year old is gutted.

I swear they know when I find something I really like and remove it a few months later! Morrisons Best tinned tomatoes in four packs. Ginger Greek yoghurt. Innocent kiwi smoothie.

The changing recipe of Krackerwheat crackers is another thing I haven't got over.

God, yes! They are literally like eating cardboard now. I fantasise about old-style Krackawheats with lovely blue cheese.

The new Quality street should be called ' streets' now. Or 'imposters'

Surprised that trading standards etc hasn't pulled QS for the name Quality. They were Mediocre Street now Shite Street.

So many people in mourning for the Cadbury's of old - I am amazed that someone hasn't replicated it and found a copyright-confounding way of marketing it as such. They would surely make their fortune. I'd certainly pay well for it.

Woolworth's pic'n'mix since Woolies closed in England 😢

Yes. Boiled sweets are really difficult to get now. They are all horrible squishy Peppa Pig ones and the aforementioned imposter fruit gums and pastilles.

Noooooo. It was false hope.

Changing the recipe and name of sugar puffs. I could eat them without milk too.

protectthesmallones · 15/11/2024 14:42

Wheat crunchies are now a tiny 20g bag.

They were 30g back in the day
Then reduced to 25g
With shrinkflation they are 20g now.

Now a few rattle in the bag.

And the price has gone up by a third.

Because it wouldn't cost like 2.50 for the bigger one. Plus I am sure exact recipe is protected.

There used to be a Nestle cereal in a light brown box, the cereal was a bit like thin bran flakes and it had small lumps of crushed nuts in a crispy sugar coating, and sliced almonds. Loved it.

All bran? They still sell it in Waitrose

sprigatito · 15/11/2024 14:43

The loss of the lovely foil and cellophane wrappers on Roses and Quality Street. It makes me sad every year.

RexsSoupCan · 15/11/2024 14:45

Kallo Umami stock cubes disappeared from my local supermarkets a few years ago. The veg ones are ok but it's NOT THE SAME wahhh

No..... all bran are those weird brown stick thing that look like meal worms

I'll live haha. I was hoping you'd come back and say they were available in your area and that it was just my local ASDA that was out. I was imagining you starting a nice sideline in selling plain Bounties. 😁

RabbitsRock · 15/11/2024 14:48

M & S prawn sandwiches used to be the business - plump juicy prawns in mayo & so well filled. They just haven’t been the same for the last few years sadly.

User13243543 · 15/11/2024 14:48

Tomato wheat crunchies, so tangy and delicious.

muddyford · 15/11/2024 14:49

And the very nasty poppies on sale this Remembrance-tide. I gave our usual donation but declined to wear such a sad thing. Just bought a nice enamel one. Wondered why I saw so few being worn.

ArabellaFishwife · 15/11/2024 14:50

Ooh, that's another thing. I used to like: the little bottles of Knorr liquid stock. So handy for minor adjustments in seasoning soups and stews. I know there are workarounds, but I WANT WHAT I LIKED.

Auburngal · 15/11/2024 14:52

Manufacturers, if you want to change the recipes to reduce costs, how about changing the recipe without making it taste (and perhaps feel) like shit?

Stop making things vegan friendly when fewer people are vegan. Stop adding wheat to things which anyone on a GF diet has to change what they eat?

In my case, it came apart under my jumper, and I failed to reunite the components before Remembrance Day.

@DustyLee123 Clusters https://tvark.org/nestle-clusters. They sell them abroad as Googled Clusters and seen modern packaging.
