What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Kasih Hummus Tahini. Though it's in tetra packs

Looks a little runny for my husbands taste but personally i like those! thank you! I order from ocado so ill add it to next weeks shops and give it a go. Shame its not resealable though. This week ive ordered chickpeas and tahini and im going to make my own and see how that goes...

PizzaPowder · 15/11/2024 10:05

Discontinuing Ricicles. This shattered my heart into a million pieces. I'm not sure i'll ever get over it.

99point6 · 15/11/2024 10:06

Any product with "new formulation" is guaranteed to be worse. They don't even label changes these days.
I still miss proper egg and bacon mayo in a tub from M&S. Took out a load of salt and fat and rubbish now.

If we are talking foods then

the change in recipe and packaging for kitkats I loved the metal foil ☹️

actually most chocolate since palm oil became a thing

discontinuation of

walkers bbq rib flavour (never found another close)
tesco Glamorgan sausages
spira

One of life's simple pleasures was running one's nail along the foil round a Kitkat!

Aldi brand Chelsea buns, used to be massive and 4 for 85p. The aldi cake section, cake slices and bars are pathetic these days.

I believe Holly Lane cakes are made by Mr Kipling as seen Battenberg HL and MK next to each other. Same ingredients and BBD is the same format and font. Yet MK was 50% more expensive

I don't know if it's just me, but have you noticed that moths (and other flying critters) no longer flutter around the (orange) bulbs like they used to many years ago?
Might've been before your time... I'm in my 70's.

No not just you. Moths and insects have plummeted. Pesticides.

MorrisZapp · 15/11/2024 10:09

Polytar liquid. They withdrew it for years, removed the active ingredient and relaunched it. It's like very smelly Head and Shoulders now.

edamismadebackwards · 15/11/2024 08:33

Not read all the replies yet, sorry.

They’ve also discontinued their Piccalilli 😭
Fuck You Heinz

They've done what?? FU indeed Heinz, with a pallet of your own beans and sausages. 😠That explains why I can't get it at either Sainsbury's or Ocado.

You can try the one without extra tahini as well.
They are not resealable because that's a portion 😁 At least that how we take it😂

Edit to add. Use ice when making own😉

MogTheSillyCat · 15/11/2024 10:10

I’ve thought of some more…non-food ones!

Mac lipstick in shade Coral Bliss & Please Me. They were my favourite two for years and they’ve both been discontinued!
Coral Bliss was the perfect peachy colour. I’ve tried others but they’re either too brown toned or orange. Please Me was the perfect muted pink too.

Nivea Soft moisturiser - They’ve changed to a vegan formula & I can’t find the normal one in shops anymore. It doesn’t feel the same on my skin, it actually feels like it’s not sinking in properly and it doesn’t moisturise half as well. My skin feels tight after using it. It was my go to cream and it was so cheap!😖

Discontinuing Gucci by Gucci! Nothing comes close.

Also cheesy wotsits, they are small and skinny, not fat and fluffy and moreish anymore.

Aldi do their own version of Wotsits in a share size bag, they are bigger in size and actually taste ok, especially the spicy one's. Just in case this helps.

Cadbury’s chocolate. I still eat it but…it’s just a bit sadder

i have stopped eating it, it seems to have a greasy texture and a synthetic taste. Used to love it

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 10:10

Bvlgari Jasmin Noir from 2008 was the most beautiful fragrance ever. Then they did some horrible splendida version yuck

TheRealBoswell · 15/11/2024 00:08

@WahWahWahs I felt the exact same way when I opened a tin of Quality Street the other day. Everything seemed to have hint of orange and the purple one was gone Easter Sad.

The purple ones are now round, I was so sad, the shiny paper has gone and now the shape has changed.

One of my earliest memories is at infants being given this large purple jewelled chocolate, it was like I had been offered treasured.

Putting the whole thing in my mouth to find a hard piece which was the hazelnut and not knowing what to do with it 😂 It still makes me laugh and now sad that the chocolate has changed

Heinz tomato soup, used to love it, now cant stand it.

Yes, what's happened to it?

Although I've recently discovered their lentil and bacon soup - lovely!

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 15/11/2024 10:12

Clinique used to make a mascara with a comb rather than a brushy bit.... never found anything as good.

Lifeomars · 15/11/2024 10:13

Ladyswhatlunch · 15/11/2024 02:09

Not everyone’s favourite but I miss Heinz Toast Toppers used to love the chicken and mushroom one for lunch.

my mum used to give us them for tea! it was either toast toppers, Findus crispy pancakes or Findus french bread pizza, can't remember having any veg.

Georgyporky · 15/11/2024 10:13

My DH's aftershave, Aramis 900, has been discontinued. He's bought various expensive muck since, but nothing I like.

Danceswithweasels · 15/11/2024 10:14

Nowhere stocking Canadian Cheddar anymore.

Crap thin bin bags which rip when you pull them out of the bin, I have found one brand on Amazon which are like the bin bags of old and stocked up.

Everything being watered down or thinner, loo roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid, cream cleaner, baked beans etc. I switched to Branston Beans as they had a thick sauce, opened a tin yesterday and found beans in orange water just like Heinz, hoping this was an anomalie batch.

Thedailycookie · 15/11/2024 10:14

I miss jeans that don’t fall apart after a few months. I don’t want them made from elastane or other crap. They’re so thin and flimsy these days.

ChaosHol1 · 15/11/2024 10:14

Caramacs I used to love them when I was little and they absolutely are not the same, at all.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 15/11/2024 10:15

Also, lids on things... removing the actual plastic lid and replacing with a film... I now have rank yogurt, dried out humus, pesto stinking out the fridge. LIDS. I miss LIDS.

Rosesanddaffs · 15/11/2024 10:15

Thanks for this, I thought I had a faulty batch, took forever to kill a fly, I was gagging with the smell but the fly was fine, it wasn’t even a fast fly

Mapleunicorn · 15/11/2024 10:16

The Devon beach I spent all my childhood holidays on had a little cafe where we always got our lunch from. They sold homemade soup and stodgy cake and it is central to so many memories. Went back this year and they’ve extended it to include a shop and now only sell shipped in sandwiches and pastries. Devastated.

My favourite perfume was discontinued last year. I have the tiniest bit left in the bottle which I’m hesitant to use as I know when it’s gone it’s gone. Devastated about that too.

Grammarnut · 15/11/2024 10:18

Cadburys chocolate - now eugh! Kitkat no longer in foil and slip off wrapper. Makes me sad and also angry - Cadburys need not have been sold to Kraft.
