What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

TheRealBoswell · 15/11/2024 00:04

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Aldi brand Chelsea buns, used to be massive and 4 for 85p. The aldi cake section, cake slices and bars are pathetic these days.

Love this thread, absolutely agree with compacted mince, gross!

@DriveMeCrazy1974 have you tried Maynard’s sports mixture to achieve the tough chew?

No, but I will now! Thank you :)

I’m sure Quality Street sales must have seen a significant drop. I buy a (very) large tin of danish butter cookies instead now, at Christmas.

I miss Toast Toppers so much!

Golden Syrup in squeeze bottles is just wrong, I only buy it in tins just to show them some of us don’t want the change.

Attached lids on single drinks…I’m sure they go flatter quicker since this change?

I had to give dh a very stern lecture after he once came home with Golden Syrup in a squeezy bottle. Ditto mayonnaise in one, instead of a glass jar where you can scrape the last bits out with a spoon. Not to mention less wretched plastic…

ABirdsEyeView · 15/11/2024 09:29

Toilet paper has become all dusty and sheds fibres everywhere and the rolls are tiny - even Andrew looks like the cheap stuff we used to get in the 90s.

There's no salt and less filling in a pasty now. We know it's unhealthy but if we've chosen to spend £2.50 on a chicken and mushroom slice I want some chicken and mushroom in it!

You can't believe phobias exist? As if you've got to this age not knowing that.

You learned something new today! Well done!

Nope I don't kill bees as I don't have a phobia of them. Do you understand what a phobia is?

Edited

I have a phobia of people killing other living beings but you don't see me running around killing folk like a psycho killer.

But seriously, here's a thought, why don't you work on your phobia so you're not scared of spiders and will therefore stop killing them? Or is it easier just to spray them/hit them.

On a similar note, I used to love the original Ribena and now it tastes like garbage. Robinsons never were my favourite squash/juice brand but I do like their Creations range.
Cadbury’s chocolate has gone downhill for years!
Tesco used to have these nice own brand crisp snacks in the shape of little puffed triangles, back in around 2007. From what I remember there were two flavours in the pack (pink - spicy, and yellow, which might have been cheese but I wasn’t so keen on them). They haven’t had them for years, but I still think about them from time to time. As well as the gummy turtle sweets with liquid centres that were available at the same time.

ABirdsEyeView · 15/11/2024 09:32

Oh and Greggs used to do sm amazing chicken and mango sandwich and they made decent bread.
Now, they've tarted up their shops, but stopped selling the things which made them good in the first place!

Mimosa Pour Moi is my lost perfume. I treasure my last bottle

Oh no has this been discontinued ?

Isometimeswonder · 15/11/2024 09:34

M&S sandwich fillings...like tikka or Chinese.
And there was a chicken mayo one that was so good.
All gone 😥

When mothercare closed. I mean it's a big deal if you were working there. I wasn't. It just made me feel sad because they had a lovely feeding room.

Removing Worchester sauce french fries. To be honest that broke my heart and Im still not over it.

Ocado sell these

AnonymousBleep · 15/11/2024 09:36

Pret's avocado wraps.
Burger King's spicy beanburger.

I don't know if it's just me, but have you noticed that moths (and other flying critters) no longer flutter around the (orange) bulbs like they used to many years ago?
Might've been before your time... I'm in my 70's.

That's because the insect population has been reduced, sadly. Have you noticed when driving after dusk, there are none on the winds reen?

Oh same! Ours was in a really handy place and I used the feeding room a lot.

Forevertrappedhere · 15/11/2024 09:38

Mine is VERY strange lol.
As a kid I loved heinz baby food egg custard and rice... they changed the recipe and its SO nutmegg-y now. As an adult I would still buy a tin now and then... Even now when we go abroad I will look for it, weird i know!!

hadenoughofplayinggames · 15/11/2024 09:39

Bobbi brown discontinued my eyebrow pencil, and Benefit discontinued my blusher. I have never recovered, and nor has my makeup bag!

Oreosareawful · 15/11/2024 09:40

Toilet rolls are all those big 'double rolls' now, which don't fit in my toilet roll holder.

and Smiths cheese flavoured moments- I used to work in a pub when I was 18 and used to buy armfuls of them to share with my dad. We are both gutted that they were discontinued.

@WahWahWahs I felt the exact same way when I opened a tin of Quality Street the other day. Everything seemed to have hint of orange and the purple one was gone Easter Sad.

I agree, Quality Street is a shadow of its former self. 🥲

I know, the environment, blah 😆- but Quality Street are just so sad even when you open the tin now, I don't bother any more. Would have been unthinkable to have Christmas in this house without a tin of Quality Street before that change.

I wonder how much their sales have dipped. I suppose maybe some might buy them now because of the change, rather than in spite of it, but pfffffft.

DogInATent · 15/11/2024 09:42

Heinz Beanz and Sausages.
Used to be a camping staple, and since the recipe change I can't eat them any more. It's a very odd change too, they're partnered with Richmond so the meat content has been reduced and they've added an allergen that wasn't there before. I'm not sure what Heinz thought they were doing partnering with a down-market, poor quality product like Richmond sausages.

Purplebunnie · 15/11/2024 09:45

Heinz tomato soup and Heinz baked beans - vile. M&S is a good substitute

beguilingeyes · 15/11/2024 09:45

Oh god, M&S chicken tikka sandwiches...
I can only eat Lindt chocolate now (classic recipe). Cadbury's has been rank since Kraft took over and yes, chocolate oranges are just balls of wax.
I don't understand why anyone would drive in central London. We never do. Public transport is frequent, reliable and 24 hours.
