What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

TheRealBoswell · 15/11/2024 00:04

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

They changed the colour of the street lights on my road from orange to white a few years back and I'm honestly still livid about it.
Literally no one else has noticed. My DH didn't notice till i pointed it out
It bothers me so much abd it also bothers me that it bothers me lol
I HATE the white light.
Outraged the council can just change the colour of the night time without asking.

Oh dear. I much prefer white light tbh I can see better in it - the change is to LEDs which are white so it's happening everywhere.

My upset is H&B not stocking vegetable pates in a metal tub anymore. I've been buying them since the 1980's and I'm gutted.

watchingsmurfs · 15/11/2024 08:26

Absolutely agree with PP on sweeteners in drinks. I very, very rarely drink squash but on that one, really hot week of summer, I just want to be able to drink a nice tall glass of squash with clinky ice cubes, without suffering the hideous after taste of sweetener. So now I go without. Sad.

My supermarket used to do a box of fruit ice lollies for a £1 which were really nice and perfect after dinner. They stopped selling them.

Extra virgin olive oil has gone up from £2.50 for just under a litre to £8.50.

Even in Aldi now. Extra virgin over £7 a bottle 🤬. Bloody Brexit.

That's not Brexit but overal shortage. To a point there is big business in "fake" olive oil.

Shrinkflation in general

You can't believe phobias exist? As if you've got to this age not knowing that.

You learned something new today! Well done!

Nope I don't kill bees as I don't have a phobia of them. Do you understand what a phobia is?

Edited

Good thing you’re not phobic of birds. Or small children. Could be carnage.

I miss these too.

I will never get over the loss of Tooty Frooties and Topics.

A hazelnut in every bite? I remember!

I think Tony’s chocolate have stopped doing the dark milk one, or at least I can’t find it any more, which is gutting. I do like Montezuma’s dark milk too, but sometimes I want the chunkiness of Tony’s.

It’s not all doom and gloom though; Popchips Hot and Spicy, after disappearing for a while, are now back [yay]

Those complaining about not being able to drive places/having to drive slower, they don’t make these regulations for fun; the middle of London desperately needs less pollution and traffic, and 20mph is considered the max safe speed when pedestrians and cyclists are present, plus it reduces the pollution produced.

Finetoday · 15/11/2024 08:29

Toast Toppers just aren’t the same. They’re tasteless 😭

Tribe perfume was discontinued but Exclamation is still available 😭😭

The parking fees in practically every location that use to be free. Even if you get your money back with a receipt, I just cba anymore.

20mph speed limit throughout Wales that no one wanted or needed.

The 7 new recycling containers instead of 1 recycling bin, also that no one wanted or needed.

Oh my god yes. I remember when I was little my dad just walking up to anything and buying a ticket, like going on a harbour tour of Sydney harbour just by deciding one morning, or going to the aquarium just like that. I'm planning another trip and don't know for sure but I bet I'll have to plan in any attractions.

I actually prefer pre-booking for the certainty.

Back around 1990/1992 time, we did a few trips to America and Canada. Missed out on so much because tickets had run out when we turned up, as we were travelling around, so only had a day or two in each place.

No problem with the likes of theme parks like Sea World, but we had to stay an extra day to get tickets for the Niagra Falls boat under the falls, had to stay two extra days in San Francisco to go on the boat to Alcatraz. Two extra days to get a flight over the Grand Canyon. Really annoying as without the internet, we couldn't book in advance. Missed out on quite a few things because you had to be there 2/3/4 days before to book tickets.

Far better in more recent times, when we could pre-book everything weeks/months in advance for certainty.

IRN BRU GOT RUINED
😡 😡 😡

Correct, but I think you'll find it's spelt 'RUINT'!

😄

Saracen · 15/11/2024 08:31

My lovely sister-in-law who used to live just up the road has moved to the next town. I didn't used to get around to visiting her very often even when she was nearby, but it was nice to know she was near and I could very easily pop in to see her.

She's still only 20 minutes away, but she isn't just there up the road where I want her. I'm a bit sad every time I pass her old house.

I don't like anything that's changed to palm oil. Terry choc orange, Cadbury, quality street, most biscuit bars.

I find myself looking at ingredients of anything that has "chocolate" and if it has palm oil I don't buy it.

Lidl choc is quite good, as is Aldi. I wonder if they make it in Germany where those businesses are from, maybe Germany doesn't use palm oil?

Morrisons own brand doesn't have palm oil in (their The Best range is made in Switzerland too and is really nice). In fact nor does Tesco(even their really cheap Mrs Molly chocolate).

I spend ages looking at ingredients too and won't buy anything with Palm Oil in as I don't agree with the way it's farmed.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/11/2024 08:31

@Peony15 everything you said.
I so miss a good department store and grieve the closure of our local House of Fraser.

The original No7 three in one make-up remover wipes.
Enny handbags
Bath pearls

The inclusion of chicken giblets in a chicken. They were banned in the 80s by an EU regulation. Brexit shoukd have brought them back.

ChallahPlaiter · 15/11/2024 08:32

I’m upset about M&S prawn cocktail shells. They discontinued them for ages then made a great fanfare of bringing them back. But they’ve changed them completely! They now taste of stale prawn crackers.

I now replace squash with cordial (has to be Bottle Green/Belvoir or you need half a bottle to taste it) and use sparkling water if I fancy a fizzy drink. I can’t stand artificial sweetener.

edamismadebackwards · 15/11/2024 08:33

Devilsmommy · 15/11/2024 01:37

I'm completely devastated that Heinz discontinued their treacle in the tin😔 nothing comes close to how that tasted😭

Not read all the replies yet, sorry.

They’ve also discontinued their Piccalilli 😭
Fuck You Heinz

Mrsmessyhairdontcare · 15/11/2024 08:33

Heinz spaghetti and sausages, they have changed the sausages to Richmond ones and my kids hate them they prefer the cheap sausages.. It was such an easy dinner and now the kids won't eat it.

MonkeyTennis34 · 15/11/2024 08:34

Cadbury's Heroes.
Like eating small bars of soap.

PanicAttax · 15/11/2024 08:35

Cadbury is now just sugar with colouring and palm oil from the taste of it. I tried a Caramac bar a few weeks ago and instantly realised I'd never get the childhood memories back of eating them all over a summer. They used to be creamy and delicately taste of real caramel. Now it's a grainy lump of sugar so sweet a mouthful makes you feel like you need to gag. We don't buy Cadbury any more.

Everything aspartame in - don't buy squash any more.

Giggorata · 15/11/2024 08:39

Agree about the London driving and sweeteners in drinks. Yuck for both taste and health reasons.
Also, they changed the scent of Pears soap, whyyyy? Apart from being a super smell, it used to remind me of my mother, who always used Pears.

All squash is vile now! Full of artificial sweeteners instead of sugar!

AuntieJoyce · 15/11/2024 08:42

I know I’m ranting about bottles again but the Robinsons bottles just collapse under your hand now. Even if I could stomach drinking the nasty tasting squash

ilovedogsme · 15/11/2024 08:42

They changed Bridget Jones birthday in the 3rd film from 9th November to some time in May 😂

Acqua Di Gio perfume. 'Oh sir, it's discontinued but Acqua Di Gioa is exactly the same, she'll love it'...

I loved Aqua di Gio! I tried to find it recently and this explains why I couldn't

Fair enough! Maybe I just like the serendipity.
