What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

Ringing your GP practice and getting an appointment that day.

When I was a child you just turned up at the surgery and sat in the waiting room until it was your turn.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/11/2024 08:15

Sweetner. I no longer buy Ribena, San Pelligrino or Fentimans thanks to that. Most upset about Fentimans because to my mind they are a premium brand and so should have passed on the sugar tax.

Rock blackcurrent and Fevertree are now my preferred brands. San Pelligrino is saved for holidays when I can get the full fat version.

I actually think it’s just right now.

I'm fed up of how most chocolate tastes these days, it's all greasy and too sweet.

Exactly this, it’s just not nice.
I bought some Ripples in Lidl the other day, they look to be original size, so much larger than anything else.
Ripples were never as nice as Flakes, but were much less messy

They taste like syrup, no one is rushing to eat the last two.

I wanted chocolate, not syrup. Ugh.

There must be some nice chocolate out there, somewhere surely.

Its certainly not Cadbury’s though, or any old favourite.

And I would be amazed if they sell anything like the numbers they used to.

There used to be a biscuit called Cafe Noir. A bit like a party ring but coffee flavoured icing.

I think of them often.

Yes! I loved these but when they changed I wrote to McVitie’s to ask what had happened. Apparently they moved production to another factory which couldn’t handle the original recipe which seemed odd to me. I guess customers didn’t like the change or they did it to kill the biscuit off.

TheRutshireWI · 15/11/2024 08:16

Lucozade it's not the same now they've added sweetener.

Also Heinz veg salad in a tin being discontinued and bright green tropical Quosh squash.

Re sweeteners in drinks.
San Pellegrino....

AWFUL now! I used to love the grapefruit one.

The clocks changing 😵‍💫 it takes me weeks to stop saying “but the real time is”, why is my brain like this?!

They changed the colour of the street lights on my road from orange to white a few years back and I'm honestly still livid about it.
Literally no one else has noticed. My DH didn't notice till i pointed it out
It bothers me so much abd it also bothers me that it bothers me lol
I HATE the white light.
Outraged the council can just change the colour of the night time without asking.

My sister in lamplight!! I can't bear the new white lights plus you can't see anyone until they step out in to the road, how is it better than that lovely orange urban glow?
I'm glad it's not just me.

I’ll try it, thanks.

Their cream of chicken is ok too, better than Heinz anyway

Having to pre book everything.

Oh my god yes. I remember when I was little my dad just walking up to anything and buying a ticket, like going on a harbour tour of Sydney harbour just by deciding one morning, or going to the aquarium just like that. I'm planning another trip and don't know for sure but I bet I'll have to plan in any attractions.

Coolblur · 15/11/2024 08:19

SqueamishHamish · 15/11/2024 06:30

Couldn't agree more. And the white light just puddles underneath the lamp post and goes no where else.

Our council seems to have a huge budget for changing street lights. In the 12 years we've lived here, the actual lampposts have been replaced not once but twice throughout the town. They always seem to be working on street light replacement somewhere locally. I can't help but think this could be better managed.

Ecover lavender handwash

PirateJim · 15/11/2024 08:19

White gloss paint. Terrible coverage, yellows even when the label says, ‘non yellowing’, and goes off in the tin after a few months. About £25 for a small tin, too.

Baneofmyexistence · 15/11/2024 08:20

Our school added ten minutes to the end of the school day. It doesn’t sound much but it’s caused us chaos with after school activities, timing of DS insulin and DD coming home on her SEND transport. It’s made it really hard but you know, ofsted said so.

@WahWahWahs I felt the exact same way when I opened a tin of Quality Street the other day. Everything seemed to have hint of orange and the purple one was gone Easter Sad.

I miss the pretty wrappers too .

Rocketmanjan · 15/11/2024 08:20

silly thing but m&s ready meals! They used to be so good before being stripped of every flavour possible. My favourite was the mushroom pappardelle but it’s a watery mess now! Sad times. Know it had to be done to make them healthier and reduce fats, BUT they were such a treat!!

Used to buy those from the refectory at college in the 80s. Ooo they were delicious.

And pay a booking fee to do it.

Vegan Fridge Raiders - they changed the protein ingredient and now they don't taste or chew like they should 😥

Asda used to do a Korma sauce in a tub, like the tubs the sell soup or pasta sauce in, refrigerated rather than jar on the shelf. It provided a perfect little warming, comforting, sweet Ceylonese Korma hit for about £2, that I've never been able to replicate. It's been about 15 years now and I still look for it, dreaming that one day it will come home. 😭

SableOrangeFox · 15/11/2024 08:21

Pizza Hut pizzas, they used to have a singular flavour which I think was kind of anise flavour, particular only to them.

It’s gone, as have all the great toppings.

The last time I went to Pizza Hut and paid £80 for 2 pizzas to share, a few poor sides and some drinks, the pizza had meat shaped like cat treats on top. Disgusting !!!🤢

JaninaDuszejko · 15/11/2024 08:22

I'd rather sweets were decent but expensive as they shouldn't need to be priced as everyday items.

Exactly. Bet there would be less of an obesity problem if sweet treats were high quality and expensive. If, e.g. Quality Street and Roses were £60 for a tin rather than £6 and actually tasted good then we'd all buy far less.

taxguru · 15/11/2024 08:23

Like others, all the chocolate bars and sweets that have been discontinued...

Polo fruits
Toffo
Bar Six
Coffee walnut whips
Plain bounty
Waifa
Spangles
Fry's five centre chocolate cream bars

Also, more recently, Greek yoghurt that actually tastes nice. One by one the chains have changed their recipe (more likely use the same factory who's steadily changed it). Used to be able to buy it from anywhere and it tasted the same. Then one by one, the taste changed, and the last place I could buy it was Spar. Now, the Spar one tastes just as bad as the others, so I can't buy it anywhere anymore. All now taste the same again, but it's a horrid taste.

Jaffa cakes are tiny. One mouthful. And dry.
Everything has shrunk
Maybe I've just got bigger Smile

There’s an excuse now to eat the pack in one go.
