What’s a “small” change that hit you harder than it should have?

I’m still gutted about the recipe change for Robinsons Summer Fruits Refreshed. That was one of my absolute favourites, and Ribena Strawberry was right up there too, but I just can’t get into the new versions at all. I also never got over the switch they made to Robinsons Fruit & Barley Summer Fruits. Anyone else have a “small” change like this that just hit a little harder than expected? What have you been gutted about that's really not a big deal to others?

I thought my hair was changing with age, but it must be the shampoo change 😮 my curls have gone all lanky too!

I'd used it for years, possibly decades, then they changed it about 5 years ago. Even the smell was horrible. Reading the real reviews (and not the ones given it via a promotion), others had the same experience.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 15/11/2024 07:58

The selection boxes that were like a stocking with net over it and proper big chocolate bars. None of your chomp and Freddo shite.

plain bountys

pacers

splicer bars

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/11/2024 07:58

And what's going on with fruit pastilles with real fruit juice flavouring??
FFS they were so much tastier in my childhood when they were stuffed full of artificial colours and flavours.

CamelTail · 15/11/2024 07:59

Re sweeteners in drinks.
San Pellegrino....

Changeforthis79 · 15/11/2024 08:00

I actually don't like chocolate since palm oil was introduced so I don't buy it anymore. I know its because of the cost but isn't it a bit silly adding something that's completely changed the taste of your products? Having said that I am fat so it's probably for the best 😀

@WahWahWahs I felt the exact same way when I opened a tin of Quality Street the other day. Everything seemed to have hint of orange and the purple one was gone Easter Sad.

What! Purple one is so popular.

Rispa42 · 15/11/2024 08:02

Anne French cleansing milk - was discontinued a few years ago. I’ve been using it since I was a teenager (and my mum had been using since the 1970s!) and have still never found anything to replace it!

Yesiknowdear · 15/11/2024 08:02

I say this often, but Dr pepper changed in 2002/2003 and I'm sure they swapped some of the sugar for sweeteners. I feel like Dr pepper burns my mouth now. I get on my soap box about it every time someone offers me Dr pepper now.

Mummyratbag · 15/11/2024 08:02

Ugh yes agree with CDM .. the bars are to thin or the corners are weirdly round, it's all sugar and no chocolate, it's waxy and just wrong. Sadly I'm still addicted to it!

Ringing your GP practice and getting an appointment that day.

Ringing the GP practice and someone actually answering the phone!

Rather than being 27th in the queue and then the phone being cut off after 3 hours when you are next!

GreenGherkin · 15/11/2024 08:05

I miss Time Outs with 2 fingers in. They were much more chocolatey than what they sell today. They’re single bars that are mainly wafer, not chocolate, and they’re crap.

Ladyswhatlunch · 15/11/2024 02:09

Not everyone’s favourite but I miss Heinz Toast Toppers used to love the chicken and mushroom one for lunch.

This- sometimes I really want this for breakfast- and tinned creamed mushrooms they used to sell in tesco too.

Dairy milk as well, it's horribly and sickly sweet now.

Capri-sun's- they used to be my (hangover) favourite but they're disgusting now.

Sillysausage76 · 15/11/2024 08:08

My dad still moans about sugar puffs now being honey puffs (have explained about amount of sugar) he also moans about Jeyes Fluid being weaker.
Me personally beef flavoured discos.

Nothatgingerpirate · 15/11/2024 08:09

I don't take this 💩 to heart. Many changes, small and big, are for the worse and I cannot do much about them.
As people here say, life is too short.

The discontinuation of Caramac and the horrible, non shiny Quality Street chocolate wrappers.

Caramac is back, for a limited period according to Google. I bought some in Farmfoods last week.

The small change I hate is the shape of chocolate orange segments. They used to be so satisfying and now they are thin and rubbish. And you don't get a muddle hit stuck to one segment any more 😢 It was a shrinkflation thing for a few years but I see the price is going up now too. I'd rather sweets were decent but expensive as they shouldn't need to be priced as everyday items.

Oh I forgot about these- loved them, the new ones aren't the same.

NorthWestWoes · 15/11/2024 08:09

Twiglets!!!!

Also, being able to scroll through mumsnet without adverts opening up or huge embedded adverts slowing things down.

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 15/11/2024 08:10

Mine is not getting STUFF in exchange for money any more. Basically hiring music or films. Or printer ink. Etc.

Crucially, you used to be able to bite both ends off and use the Time Out like a straw to suck up hot chocolate and the middle chocolate part would go all
melty. Why would they ruin that? Why? Why?

CanelliniBeans · 15/11/2024 08:11

Jaffa cakes are tiny. One mouthful. And dry.
Everything has shrunk
Maybe I've just got bigger Smile

ThunderLeaf · 15/11/2024 08:12

I don't like anything that's changed to palm oil. Terry choc orange, Cadbury, quality street, most biscuit bars.

I find myself looking at ingredients of anything that has "chocolate" and if it has palm oil I don't buy it.

Lidl choc is quite good, as is Aldi. I wonder if they make it in Germany where those businesses are from, maybe Germany doesn't use palm oil?

Switcher · 15/11/2024 08:12

Definitely the quality street wrappers changing.

Weepingwillows12 · 15/11/2024 08:12

I am not sure this is what you mean but I drink very few things, mainly water to be honest, but I like diet coke. But it doesn't taste the same in other countries so I only really like UK diet coke. It might just be my brain running wild though. Has anyone else noticed that?

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/11/2024 08:13

When they brought in emissions based parking charges in the council operated car parks in central Bath (and are rolling it out across the whole of Bath and North East Somerset). Sometimes I need to take my car into the city centre to collect a big thing because I wouldn't be able to carry it on the park and ride bus or on the train. I can't afford to replace the car either.

Mine are perfume gripes.

Estee Lauder Spellbound smells completely different, like a shadow of its former self. So disappointing.

Givenchy Eau de Givenchy discontinued but xyz is the same…. No. It isn’t.

Yes! Guerlain 'updated' its bottles but 'didn't change the perfume inside!' Yes you did, you shady French buggers - I gave up wearing Samsara because it just doesn't last any more...
