Is anyone worried what might happen if Trump wins?

Of course. It's terrifying. But I'm also really worried about what he and his supporters might do if he loses.

Damnloginpopup · 05/11/2024 09:36

He won before. Doomsday didn't happen.

The bloke is a moron but surely there's enough shit here to wade through without their bullshit

Totally agree, sadly though, events in the US do impact what happens here and elsewhere in the world

Yes. He's pro Putin so it doesn't bode well for the people of Ukraine, the rest of Eastern Europe or us. He'll also expedite the war in the ME.

It's a disaster for women's rights and anyone non white in the States. He's spoken of mass deportation and controlling women's bodies.

He'd be above the law and surrounded by far right loons.

Last time there were adults in the room . Like Pence and General Kelly. But they are off the scene and Steve Bannon is back.
But I imagine the Chiefs of Staff will still refuse to carry out orders that contravene the Constitution.

bamboosockmonster · 05/11/2024 10:06

I think Kamala will win but Trump will contest the result and it could get very hairy about the eventual outcome. Who knows!

1dayatatime · 05/11/2024 10:08

5 days ago I thought Trump could just about win it with Harris support gradually slipping.

But there seems to have been a slight up tick in her support so looking at the final polls in the battleground states and I now think she will just win it. But one thing I am sure of is that it will all come down to the Pennsylvania result.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/11/2024 10:10

He won’t.

Hopefully.

CroftonWillow · 05/11/2024 10:13

I trust the defence mechanisms within the American constitution to be robust enough to stand up to him when it really matters.

mindutopia · 05/11/2024 10:28

American here, though thank god, I haven’t lived there for a long time (still vote every election though). It’s going to be bad either way. If he wins, slippery slope for democracy into authoritarianism and very bad for stabilising the hair trigger global political situation (Russia, Israel/Palestine, etc). If he loses, there will be January the 6th all over again.

Personally, I think Harris will win, but I was shocked before when he won. It was so close. Americans are shockingly uncomfortable with a woman in power, even the progressive ones. It goes against a powerful precedent that rattles people. I think there will also be some surprise voters, who vote for Trump simply because he’s white and a man.

In my own family, my mum, who has been a lifelong Democrat, has switched to the Republican Party only in the past year and is presumably voting for Trump. Harris is, I think, too much change for her, even though she’s likely been de facto running the country with staffers while Biden has been sliding into dementia for the past couple years. I think she feels like with Trump she knows what she gets (crazy), but it’s familiar crazy, white, male.

Ujustcantandwont · 05/11/2024 11:01

I think there is going to be fallout whatever happens. If he wins there will be protests and riots and if he loses there will be protests and riots.

I hope he doesn't but there's an impending sense of doom whatever the outcome.

It's incredibly close, like PP says there are some that won't vote for Kamala because she isn't male and white and will vote for Trump because he is. But there are also many who will vote Kamala simply because she is not Trump.

I've never quite wrapped my head around the people who are 'on the fence' Trump is surely such a polarising character that I can't imagine not having a strong opinion on him, whether that be love or hate.

EasternStandard · 05/11/2024 11:11

First vote has been cast

I hadn't seen that nooo video in pp before

dottiehens · 05/11/2024 11:22

Yes, expect this on asteroids. 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe people on other parts of the world stop speculating for the worse if he wins and try to bring people together?

AnotherHotDrink · 05/11/2024 11:26

The world had 4 years of a Trump administration and is still here. I am not keen on the man personally. I do prefer him to the even worse male supremacy Democrats though.

Tbh if he wins is because people who are float voters realised exactly how much worse he can be than his first term. How much worse the US is now under the Democrats? Kamala selling point is that she is not Trump. They may find they overkilled the whole thing. Plus, the ridiculous and tacky celebrities endorsement’s. Just still cringing about Jennifer Lopez crying. Now that you came as her supporter I would vote for Kamala as you are such a good role model with your messy private life. 😂 it is for morons.

This. The world did not end when he was president. In fact it was a far more stable world than it is now so I think we'll all be just fine

PollyPeep · 05/11/2024 11:36

Wasn't abortion made illegal during Trump's presidency? For PP saying nothing much happened, that seems like a pretty big one.

The world was very different during his last presidency to where we are at today in many many respects.

Scottishgirl85 · 05/11/2024 11:38

If he wins, I would've want to be his security people. The risk to his life will be extreme. I can't get my head around why he wants it.

There weren’t wars in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza/Lebanon, then. The implications of a Trump win are awful for both.

No need to be rude! I guess I was mixing it up with the republican dominated supreme court

Well if I am rude for you so be it. I am sick of the spreading of misinformation and the consequences of the lies.
The decision was made and it is not going back even if Kamala gets in. I am pro choice btw.
