Is anyone worried what might happen if Trump wins?

I find it odd how the whole of 'Hollywood' seems to support Harris ( did we forget about the whole Diddy/Beyonce thing?)

Makes me think that voting for Trump might actually drain that swamp which would be a positive. He's also v anti children being trans, also a good thing. And actually, last time he was in power, the world was pretty settled. The wars started after he came out of office!

violetchachki · 05/11/2024 13:06

Covid knocked out almost 3 years of his presidency.

Trump's presidency ran, after the 2016 elections, from January 2017 to January 2021. He killed hundreds of thousands of Americans with his example and loose messaging around precautions during the pandemic, and then he incited an insurrection when Biden won in 2020.

StaunchMomma · 05/11/2024 13:09

Him winning is a win for Russia and a loss for American women.

I find both frightening, plus the fear and disgust of the continued rise of the extreme right and the rampancy of SM misinformation.

I cannot imagine voting for a rapist whose father was a Klan member.

I am so excited for President Trump! Finally someone to stand up to the left-wing woke nonsense that we've had to put up with for far too long!

Can you give examples of Democrats behaving in ways worse than storming the Capitol?

In your view nothing will ever be worse. For me it was blown out of proportion and weaponised for every single debate against the unacceptable behaviour of the Democrats. If you ask me deranged people attacking and assaulting others and delaying planes just because someone has a different political view. it is pretty bad. Specially coming from the high moral ground side. All of this is the fault of their leaders and the campaign purely based on bashing Trump and his followers.

I agree. I do not understand why Trump has so many supporters but he does, that's just how it is. It's an interesting situation but we need to concentrate on our own politicians.

CaveMum · 05/11/2024 13:13

As an avid listener to the various TRIP podcasts, I have to agree with Michael Lewis (author of Moneyball, The Big Short and The Fifth Risk - about the Trump transition) who was interviewed this week on Leading. He said that a lot of people are voting Trump not because they actually believe in him but because they are so disenfranchised that they are voting for the "chaos candidate" - the person who wants to blow shit up and mess with the establishment.

We have to be very careful not to assume that Trump supporters are the same as Trump himself. In the same way that not everyone who voted Reform in our election is a racist, sexist twat, nether are all the Trump supporters. Trump himself - absolutely, but all of his supporters, no.

AnotherHotDrink · 05/11/2024 13:14

I don't like Starmer and we have to tolerate 5 years, we have nowhere to move to. I can't understand why those that hate Trump don't just move to a blue state?

violetchachki · 05/11/2024 13:15

You think rioters smashing their way into the Capitol looking to hang Mike Pence was blown out of proportion?

Eightdayz · 05/11/2024 13:16

This video is from 2017.

Yes, some of them are just really very dim.

Does not mean democrats get a free pass every time they act violently or deranged. I have seen much worse in protests and streets riots. Much more violent and damaging. Of course you are entitled to your opinion and so am I. However, I will not be calling people with opposing political views dim or demeaning them due to their views. That doesn’t put you in a very good light or as intelligent as you think you are.

You've seen Democrats launch a violent insurrection?

Have you even watched any footage of the attack on the Capitol?

If you see the previous posts you will see PANDORA bringing the Capitol into this. So do not even go there.

That sounds oddly threatening.

1dayatatime · 05/11/2024 13:29

To me it seems to be a choice between:
Trump who most perceive to be an unpleasant character but who is viewed as more likely to improve the economy and individual's personal finances or
Harris who most perceive to be a more pleasant character but who is viewed as less likely to improve the economy and individual's personal finances.

There were riots instigated by the Democrats? Can you provide any kind of evidence please as this hasn't been reported outside the US.

violetchachki · 05/11/2024 13:30

I jolly well will bring the Capitol into this. The National Guard are out in force this time in multiple states, because they sure as hell remember the January 6 insurrection incited by Trump.

Threatening? Just read the previous posts basically.

Team Trump. He doesn’t believe in children being butchered to change their gender. That’s all I needed to know.

It will be different if he wins again. Last time his cabinet and his staff were largely made up of "normal" Republicans (or, at least as normal as they get) who were willing to say no to his more outlandish orders. This time around, he's bringing his own people and they are all as nuts as he is.
