I've just seen Biden introduce president Zelensky as President Putin....its just beyond sad now, surely this has to be a big sway to stepping down?

It is isn't it. I'm no fan of the man but on the world's stage, it's cruel and feels very uncomfortable viewing

He did correct himself. Surely if it were dementia he wouldn't have been able to do that?

There was a big gap before the correction. I suspect an ear piece.

He was corrected by a couple of people shouting out.

When it was pointed out to him he corrected. Dementia in the earlier/mid stages is up and down, good days, bad days and everything in-between.

My FIL used to mix me up with his daughter. I'd say to him No, FIL i'm Ova then he'd attempt to cover up and say something like Yes, you're Ova I know that. He would remember for a while but then get mixed up again.

I sense this live news conference is going to be big.

Ohfuckwhatdoidonow · 12/07/2024 00:18

Oh gosh, many of us know what it is to have relatives witg alzheimers, and the fights we have on our hands to stop them driving when it becomes a requirement... I can only imagine what a fight it would be to get him to give up his presidency but it has been clear for a while now that's what needs to happen.
Also, bless Zelensky. He handled that well.

Honestly, what a load of fuss about nothing. I bet most people have called a colleague by the wrong name or forgotten their name at some point.

In the context of the debate and all the other concerns, it's appalling and can't be excused as a slip of the tongue.

Putin must be laughing his arse off, a choice between someone who will probably support him and another who barely seems to know what day it is most of the time. Reagan at the end wasn't as bad as this.

Terrifying. This needs to stop and the Democrats need to get a replacement pronto.

fridaynight1 · 12/07/2024 00:23

Gosh watching this live on Sky.

George Clooney even put it in a NYT article ... he MIST stand aside ... and FFS someone out of the 330 m Americans must be better than Trump 🤯😱😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

This & your one Disney saying she's witholding funds has to have some clout, not cos I think George fucking Clooney should have any political sway BUT it is on Op Ed in the NYT & that alone gives it legitimacy

Honestly what's it going to take?

He wasn't great in 2020. Covid was a gift to his campaign then because it limited the amount of face to face campaigning he needed to do.

As was mentioned up thread I fully expected the plan was to swap him out for Kamala after the mid terms giving her a couple of years to be the incumbent before this election.

It just never happened. I don't know if that was due to polling or because Biden never really intended to give way after finally getting the Presidency.

I do believe a lot of people in DC will have been aware of some cognitive issues as early as the first campaign and everyone knows these issues don't get better so the lack of proper contingency planning is baffling. It seems obvious to me that Biden may not even be alive in 4 years time never mind be of sound mind.

im sure I read a news report earlier that KS met with Biden earlier and thinks he’s fine cognitively

fridaynight1 · 12/07/2024 00:37

Did he just say Vice President Trump?

I wouldn't read into that too much, he can't say he's lost his marbles can he.

Yes! Poor Kamala.

He can clearly still read quite well from a teleprompter but off the cuff...

crumblingschools · 12/07/2024 00:38

He did @fridaynight1

But surely he wouldn’t mislead people?

OvaHere · 12/07/2024 00:41

Bizarrely he's starting to sound quite Trumpish always talking how great he is and how other people are saying how great he is.

daisydalrymple · 12/07/2024 00:41

Oh I can barely watch. I get that this is the pressing issue, but it’s supposed to be about NATO. That’s losing out as well.
I feel so sad that he’s up there, but what’s driving him / his loved ones to keep him up there?? I really wouldn’t be surprised to wake up to the headlines that he’s stepping down. Surely it’s imminent.

That will age well, but I suspect as his first meeting as PM with POTUS and wanting to cultivate the “special relationship”, he didn’t really have much choice from a diplomatic perspective.

I’m sure KS will wriggle out of it by saying, well he was fine in my meeting, it wasn’t long etc etc.

youve987456 · 12/07/2024 00:43

He did realise his error straight away though.

I agree. Given his age, I thought KH would be the shoo in for the nomination after his 4 years. I don't know what's happened there either, or whether she would now be a credible replacement. It seems to me she has been very much kept in the shadows.

It is a hideous mess and something needs to happen pretty much immediately or the damage will be too great and the world, not just the US, will be facing another 4 years of Trump.

Sadly we all know two reasons why Kamala Harris wouldn't get voted in.

Which is outrageous, but the Democrats know it too.

You mean that she's 1) grossly inexperienced and 2) speaks with less clarity than Biden? Yes. You nailed it.

SammyScrounge · 12/07/2024 00:47

Tgjjl · 11/07/2024 23:22

This is absolutely outrageous. The biggest superpower in the world is being run by a person who is not all there mentally. Dangerous to the whole world. Whatever will the real Putin think he can get away with now?

Decisive action needs to be taken right away. The VP needs to be sworn in and Biden needs a rest and to spend time with family.

So so dangerous.

Kamala Harris? The laughing hyena? The thought of her being President is probably what drives Biden's people to prop him up.
