I've just seen Biden introduce president Zelensky as President Putin....its just beyond sad now, surely this has to be a big sway to stepping down?

One of mine is apparently disappointed that the assassin missed. This is not a healthy response, whatever your politics.

That’s… well words fail me. “When they go low, we go high” didn’t last very long did it.

i must admit to thinking during the peak chaos of his presidency that it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if natural causes from the consequences of his Maccy D and two scoops diet caught up with him. But political violence is abhorrent from any side, which is why the Jan 6 riots were so roundly condemned.

Plus the USA has a horrible history when it comes to political assassination attempts, whether they succeed or not. This will reverberate for years to come. Not least as it appears the secret service have questions to answer on why members of the crowd spotted the shooter a good few minutes before he started firing.

The difference between Biden now and when he began his presidency is so dramatic. I don’t think it’s a normal rate of ageing over that time. Maybe the job has aged him terribly because he was already old to do it in the first place. Or he has an illness, perhaps age related but not just a normal part of ageing. Something is wrong.

SunshinDay · 19/07/2024 13:56

The job definitely ages them..
His decline however seems to fast or maybe it's because we've seen more of him recently?

Once you get to a certain point, you can suddenly get very old almost overnight if you have an illness or an accident. When my dad had a stroke, I didn’t recognise the tiny old man sitting in the hospital chair. The weekend before he’d been fine, bustling about the house and garden and pushing the lawnmower up and down. He “aged” about 15 years in one go.

Add in the pressures of the Presidency (look at photos of Obama before, after and now) then I think Biden is on a permanent knife edge wrt his health.

Biden is an embarassment and he has the final say re nuclear weapons. Lets hope he is not having a nap if it happens.

Democrats are in a real mess here. The longer they leave the worse it becomes. I think Biden has a massive ego as in 'I am the only person who can win against Trump. If not me whom?

Shame on the Democrats for not putting someone better in place against Trump. I am not a great fan of Trump but he handled the shooting very well. Can you see Biden doing anything like this? The guy cannot even walk properly anymore

It's a dreadful situation.

SunshinDay · 19/07/2024 18:30

Putin must be so happy

I remember Tony Blair ageing dramatically between 1997 and 2003.

News reports seem to suggest that Biden won't run. Let's hope they are true.

TeaMistress · 19/07/2024 21:19

Biden is elderly and in poor health. It's been quite obvious for some time that he has suffered significant cognitive decline and isn't well enough now to act as President. He looks frail. Whoever is acting as his support team should have recognised by now that Biden's judgement and cognitive functions are impaired. I am sorry if he is unwell but even if he won't admit it to himself then his team have to be in a position now where they know he can't possibly continue like this.

I mean he has a point if that is what he's thinking. He won against Trump before, and there doesn't appear to be a clear successor.

America is far more likely to elect a President of Latino heritage in November or November 2028. Latino is the rising and successful demographic in US society. Something like 40% of the south's population speaks Spanish. This is a generational shift (IMHO).

Emmanuelll · 19/07/2024 22:02

Good, America needs a shift like nowhere else atm 😩

I thought it was funny watching the Sunak vs Starmer debate before our election and they were both asked what will happen if Trump gets back into the WH and they both said something along the lines of 'we'll deal with him' as though he's an unruly child lol.
