I've just seen Biden introduce president Zelensky as President Putin....its just beyond sad now, surely this has to be a big sway to stepping down?

Is there a rule or a law or a test to see if someone is fit for office? Has Biden taken and passed it?

There should be, but I don't think there is. Or the bar is set very low.

I am old enough to recall these debates going on about Ronald Reagan as he too was particularly gaffe prone. Nothing happened then either and he just continued to serve his two terms.

Because under an amendment to the US constitution (shortly after the Second World War I think) they are now only allowed to serve two terms of office. These can run consecutively or there can be s gap in the middle (as in the case of Trump if he is re-elected).

Obama has already served his two terms. Consecutively.

Yeah, shortly before FDR died, three months into his fourth term.

A random decision maker would be better than Trump! My cat walking on a keyboard would be better than Trump. Despite his fumbling, Biden is still the better option for America and the world. Trump has openly said he wants to turn America into a dictatorship. I do wish Biden would step aside though.

When did Trump openly say he wants to turn America into a dictatorship? Can you provide a link please because all I can find is him saying he will only be a dictator on day 1...dictating that the border will be closed and 'drill drill drill' This is on the PolitiFact website in conversation with Sean Hannity. I'm wondering if what you think he said was completely taken out of context?

Harris could invoke the 25th amendment, which is essentially a declaration that the president is unfit to serve. She would need the backing of Biden's cabinet to do so. If Biden still refused to step down, the Senate and the House would vote on whether he should. This would be time-consuming and risky. If the Senate and House voted to save Biden, the Democrats would be heading into the election with a candidate whose own VP and cabinet had made it clear they felt he was dangerously unfit. If Biden were successfully removed, Harris (who is already unpopular with voters) would be labelled a hypocrite for having defended Biden against claims of incapacity for so long. She would also be labelled ruthless and disloyal for overthrowing a man who has done so much for the Democratic party.

The whole thing is a mess. I have no idea what's going to happen next.

You'd vote Trump over any (other) jackass, though.

Newsom's dad (out of his life since he was three) had a sister who was married to Nancy Pelosi's brother. So what? San Francisco didn't deserve anything that happened to it, but as anyone with actual experience living in the city knows, it far far far predates Newsom or Pelosi.

Actually, I would not, but how funny/strange/peculiar/weird that you would think that.
You know what happens when you make assumptions. LOL!

There are many jackasses I would vote for over Trump. It would be the lesser of jackassery.

If there was and it included a psychological profile, neither Biden nor Trump could run. Our Congress would be cut to 10 Senators and 44 Representatives. God only knows what we would have left for Governors, Judges and other political power players.

We REALLY need a fitness and psychological test for these people! We could actually have a functioning, working, capable government! Win all-around!

He ran CA into the ground money wise!

Still would have him over the current two. But I’d have my cat instead of them so it’s a low bar!

He’s also said he wants to change various aspects of the democratic process to maintain power. Can’t remember what each of them was and no time to look.

Poodleydoodley · 13/07/2024 19:32

Michelle Obama is the only one who can beat trump in some polls that have been run. I think she’ll step up to the plate and will be the democratic nominee. She might have never wanted it but I think she’ll do it to stop trump. She’ll see it as her duty.

Sad? He's an ego maniac who is paying for a genocide.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 13/07/2024 20:51

He called Trump the vice president a few minutes before this!!

Pupinskipops · 13/07/2024 20:53

No, he's a normal, reasonably healthy 81 year old who should be enjoying a well-earned retirement dead-heading the roses at home. Definitely not fit to be president, but not in an old folks home either.

RationalityIsHard · 13/07/2024 21:53

Remember when Trump called Tim Cook 'Tim Apple'? Or called Nicky Haley 'Nancy Pelosi'? Or said Viktor Orban was the leader of Turkey?

And yet there is no media campaign to get him to stand down. Makes you wonder about what agendas are at work here.

Both are old men. Only one should definitely not be President, and it's not because he's old and occasionally mixes things up.

Cherryana · 11/07/2024 23:10

I agree with you all. It’s gone beyond time. He is ill.

Hopefully now, there is no way back from this, and ‘whoever’ has been pulling the strings on this facade of a presidency can find a new puppet - I mean candidate.

All US presidents and UK prime ministers are just puppets - they are just a spokesperson. But Biden obviously can’t do that anymore. He should never have been their spokesperson for the start, let the man retire!

Nobody wants Trump to stand in the first place! There’s no agenda.

Trying to promote a senile old man by comparing him with the orange village idiot is some kind of desperate.

They both make the same mistakes. How is the comparison unwarranted?

And no-one wants Trump? Obviously massively untrue.

Please reassure me that that's a joke? Sorry, but there are so many bots around these days, it's hard to be sure.

But you still know it's not 'fake news' right? He really did get those names wrong, just like Sleepy Joe did. You're not one of 'those' Trump supporters are you?

Coco1379 · 13/07/2024 22:42

It’s dangerous - he might fall asleep with his finger on the button 😳 Seriously he is beyond being cognitively fit for such a responsible position, I have heard of aides saying he referred to politicians he worked for in the past as though they were still around. And his handling of Gaza is despicable. The worst thing the Democrats can do is let him stand because that would leave Trump with an open goal and christ knows where that will lead.

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 22:46

Tim Apple is just good humour. Not on a par with Biden's latest indiscretions.

FinalCeleryScheme · 13/07/2024 22:46

There is one Trump supporter on this thread, RationalityIsHard, so you’re right to that extent.

But surely you can see that the concern is that Biden is observably diddle-o, which means that the charlatan Trump will be more likely to get in. Why promote that cause?
