its actually upsetting if you had heard your own dad called this spat at told to go home I expect you to would have such a reaction where it simply can not be explained away

I missed this.

My DC were spat at and told to go home in the immediate aftermath of the EU referendum. I know exactly what it's like. And when it happened, I blamed 1) the people who did it, but also 2) The Conservative party and the right wing media for stoking the rhetoric about immigrants.
That is not 'explaining away', that is 'understanding cause and effect'.

You seem unable to grasp that we live in a complex world where many factors are at play and where nothing is simple.

I am sorry to read that your children were treated so appalling it’s very hurtful

its utterly shameful

I am aware that the world isn’t a simple place and it’s complex

@DuncinToffee Sunak The Final Countdown?

Is it still too early for that one?

Final Countdown needs to be kept in reserve for next week.

Not a lot will happen next week, so there will only be one thread.

Yes Brexit caused kids at my ds school to tell him to go back to where he came from.

He's white British but born in another European country.

They were called out on there racism.

So they started the disablist crap on him instead. That seemed to be allowed to stand (until I spoke to school quite firmly).

Both the reasons teens were banding about such utter vile hateful crap was because they heard the leaders of our country doing so.

They were totally wrong - end of.

But so were the people stoking the fires these children flamed.

Anyone doing anything nice this weekend?

Yes - nothing!!!

Ds is away competing for England in his sport so I'm having a break from being a parent and carer.

I have the osteopath tomorrow and then will read and cook!

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2024 21:20

Sorry typed racism in a hurry and meant they were called out but it wasn't racism (it's not) nor xenophobia (because he's British) but were told to stop.

However I was told by a teacher because he's British it's not really anything bad.

Sunak : no retreat, no Surrender! (Unless it's DDay...)

Hands up - a family member was a senior official in UKIP - we disagreed. I have met Farage. He's a knob and he smells strongly of cigarettes.

i knew it matthew perry GIF

We call him fag breath in our house!

prettybird · 28/06/2024 21:52

I'm really, really confused Confused

Where has anyone on this thread said that racism and racist speech is acceptable? Confused We have all condemned it Confused

What we have also pointed out, though, is that the Conservatives (and Reform - but they've not been in power) have created the environment that such speech and attitudes have become acceptable to a certain sector of the population.

For the avoidance of doubt: none of us on here think such language is acceptable Confused

PS: it's ridiculous I even have to say something so obvious but it would seem that it's not obvious to one poster everyone Confused
