Cognitive dissonance innit?

It's awful when it happens to him and his family (which of course, it is...)

But he just doesn't see this as part of the "othering" done by the tories since 2010 🤷

It's their policies, including brexshit, that have made these people think this is ok

Boris and his "pickaninny" and "letterbox" comments

Not just the more blatant stuff that has gone on in the past 4-5 years, but how much does outsourcing cost, and how much could be saved by bringing things in house?

How much could the NHS save if they did not need to use agency staff?
How much could be saved if instead of using consultants from firms like E+Y instead expertise was used from within the civil service to run projects?
If road maintenance was still done by council employed teams rather than contractors, how much better and cheaper would the roads be?

I’m not sure about in the NHS, but the use of agencies to ‘manage’ supply teachers definitely costs schools more than managing it from LEAs used to.

And yet probably that supply teacher is paid less with poorer terms and conditions, than when they were in an LEA pool, and yet it costs us all more.

They've got themselves in an absolute pickle haven't they? (To put it mildly).

I was reading a democrat commentator talking about last night saying that, although it pains him to say it, America is not yet ready for a black woman president. 😔

I just don't know what can be done constitutionally. And the call must be whether removing Biden and replacing him at this stage would solve the problem

The Rest is Politics have done an emergency podcast on last night's debate. I am going to listen to it in a bit.

Yup, that too. In ‘Labour run Wales’ we somehow how have some protection 🤷‍♀️
A supply teacher must be paid what a teacher in their first year of teaching would be paid (so no pay for all my 35 years of experience unless I work in the same place for 12 weeks). They don’t even have that in England. When LEAs had supply lists, supply teachers could make relationships with individual schools and go there regularly, thus causing less disruption. That’s much harder to achieve now.

I also think that assuming everyone for Reform is racist is an issue we had with Leave/Remain. I'm voting Libs but a sparky comment about everyone voting reform being racist whether they know it or not isn't going to change any minds about champagne socialists or bleeding heart liberals.

A lot of people are led by what they've been told to worry about (Reform and Labour too) but it's the issues in between that are the grey areas that often need really details plans for that are being ignored. The flashy headlines seem to just be distracting. I don't want 16k new teachers magicked out of nowhere, I want proper MH care in schools. I want the buildings not to fall down. I want to be seen in A&E within a safe time because elderly people are being housed appropriately and given proper care while their carers get a fair wage.

I watch kGB News so I understand where Reform votes are coming from. Right wing voters are as pissed off with the Tories as the left and centre. However they've nowhere to go except Reform.

Years of pushing a xenophobic, homophobic, ableist agenda has normalised the rhetoric, expanded the Overton Window and brought us to where we are now wrt Reform. They are campaigning on the basis that they are the Real conservative party who can deliver what the Tory party didn't.

Notonthestairs · 28/06/2024 15:34

The problem being that the Conservative party has spent the last 10 years writing cheques it couldn't cash (without bankrupting us or ruining our international relationships).

This.

It's awful when comments like that are made about - racism is wrong.

We are a divided society - and I think that the Conservatives and their attitude towards other groups who face discrimination has not helped that.

Cognitive dissonance

I frequent describe Brexit as being bought with a dodgy cheque.

No matter how many times whoever turns up at the bank, it won't get cashed.

sounds like you are saying well Sunak (and the impact on his family) its fair game

It is absolutely wrong no reasoning around it is ok at all

Nope, you have misread that post completely. It's basically 'as ye sow, so shall ye reap'.

It is also wrong what Hester said about Dianne Abbott. The problem Sunak has created is he still takes Hester's money.

countrygirl99 · 28/06/2024 16:06

Of course it's wrong but if you don't call it out when it happens to other people you shouldn't be surprised that it happens to you.
Would be the same if I not only let misogynistic comments slide but supported the person making them, I shouldn't be surprised if they were made about me. Fortunately I'm as gobby as Angela Rayner in those situations.
Hopefully he's learned a useful life lesson but I would be very surprised if that's the first time he has encountered racism. A financially privileged background isn't complete protection.

I remember saying to my ds after the brexshit vote that the likes of farage and the nutter right wing of the tory party (like sunak) should be wary.

Once you incite the mob it's very hard to put them back in their (twisted) box ...

I'm glad sunak is shining a light on this dreadful comments, but 🤷 why is it a shock? His party have made views like this "acceptable" to a large number of people

so its ok towards him because of some in his party

ok then

It is. But what Johnson said was wrong, and Sunak didn’t call it out. What was said about Dianne Abbott was wrong, but they still take the culprit’s money. Those are all wrong, and people on the left (and many on the more moderate right, in fairness) have said so about all of them. Sunak only cares when it’s him.

user8800 · 28/06/2024 16:15

Wrt biden: I haven't read the articles. It all feels rather scary and very febrile in the US atm.
KH won't win (misogyny and racism) so they need to find a mid 40s white man, ideally with a military service background.

No.
That is not what I'm saying at all.
Why should it shock him?
He and his party have made horrifically racist and xenophobic comments and by doing so have encouraged such views.
Perhaps you don't understand what cognitive dissonance means?
