Here is a clip, well done Mishal Husain

That was brilliant. Thanks Duncin

Bloody hell! She tied him in knots, shoved him into a hole and then gave him a shovel so she could watch him dig it deeper. Epic!

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2024 10:43

Didn't Heaton Harris write to every university asking for the names of anyone lecturing on Brexit and copies of their course material. He was described as McCarthyite and sinister by LSE.

I think the subsequent development - where he was told to go and have sex with himself in many positions, languages (and impressively locations) may have been underreported.

Its like partygate all over again. They are defending the indefensible. Someone big in the party has put a bet on (odds on this are 3/1) .

It's like the end of a box set and they play all the highlights in slow motion. I wonder if we'll go back to series one with the expenses and duck houses ?

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2024 11:04

CHH isn't standing in the GE so has nothing more to lose

Dowden seems to be mia 🤔

I would like to go to an earlier season where we have sure start, well funded schools and an NHS that works.

That is very clever Grin

I might borrow that.

That would be unbearably sad. Imagine being shown the country when everything worked then looking round at the shambles we have now.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/06/2024 11:19

There might be uncertainty in the polls but I don’t think enough to change the outcome from Labour having a significant majority with LDs hugely increasing their number of MPs. Greens and reform might pick up a couple each.

It’s the size of the Tory wipeout that is uncertain. A lot of that is going to depend on which way the undecideds fall. If they go as normally expected then they could end up with up to 200 MPs (according to YouGov I think). It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they go Labour or Lib Dem far more than expected. At which point the result could be very funny. The betting scandal isn’t going to help them here.

Labour obviously still have to act as though they might not win though.

But surely that's how box set pathos (or is it bathos) works ?

We could play a game, while we are waiting of what box set this reality is closest to.

The Sopranos, with it's ambiguous ending ?

Breaking Bad, where the protagonist finally succumbs to fate but not before settling scores and providing for his family ?

Mad Men, which sees the protagonist finally at peace in the world they were shaping ?

The Wire, where the closing scenes deliberately echo the opening scenes in an bitter acknowledgement that "plus ca change ...." ?

The Shield, where the closing scenes show the protagonist living the consequences of their actions, emasculated and isolated ?

.
.
.

Netflix bloody love me. 😀

The lovely Nadine keeps suggesting on Twitter that all but one of the Cabinet have issued denials about betting. I wonder who 'the one' is? It would be glorious if one of them really had put a bet on.

In other news, just had an infuriating conversation with DM. 'What do you think of that Nigel Farage?' she says, 'me and your Dad quite like him, he talks a lot of sense.' No Mum, no he doesn't, he's the leader of a party of racists who have no policies other than all of our troubles are caused by immigrants. (Weeps)

There is no arguing with some people. Best not waste your time as they will have an answer for everything (which is usually the giveaway).

So what is their answer for St. Nige being praised by the Kremlin for calling the UK warmongers and baby killers ? "Oh that's just Nige. You know, bantz".

Maybe we need a few YouTube clips of the faithful being read NF quotes and abusing them before you tell them "That was Nigel Farage in 2022" or whatever. There are quite a few US clips about Trumpers having problems with things he's said.

I can depress myself just by looking at those adverts that the Brexit campaign used to show comparing what they saw as the hell of a visit to A&E at that time to the bliss of what we would experience after Brexit. Because even the "before" version of that advert looks like impossible luxury by comparison with what has actually happened post Brexit.

I sent the link to vote for policies to my relatives that have always voted Conservative, or say the like reform. Just to see where they come out.

I got to about 40 seconds in and I can't watch any more. I've sat in my empty doctors waiting room after trying for 2 weeks to get an appointment and getting an actual answerphone every hour saying they are too busy to take calls and to call 999 in an emergency. They've merged practices and one one of the 3 lines works every week and seems to rotate (I have spent a long time figuring this out since March). I can't quite tell who is responsible for this as I mention it in every surgery, whichever village I wind up in, all are empty and perhaps not surprisingly with no phone ever ringing despite me knowing people like me who can't get through. As I was leaving a village one last month a man came in very angrily expressing that he can't get through due to the answerphone and was told "you'll have to call at 8am for an appointment, no I can't make one now" - he was about to have a heart attack in rage (and I know the feeling tbh) until I explained to him the situation, in front of the receptionist who I had told when I went in who hadn't thought to mention it. I gave him the number that I had got through on the day before and he went away with it ringing on his phone. An empty surgery hasn't been a good sign in my experience.

user8800 · 24/06/2024 12:50

I could tell you some nightmarish stories of a&e since brexshit

Last month a family member had a stroke

I phoned 999 and wasted it was an 8 hour wait (weekday evening)

I was asked to take them there myself which I did - thank God they didn't deteriorate until we were sat in triage

A couple of weeks ago they had to go in again and it was only a 2 hour wait this time - admitted again

2 years ago a woman died in her chair whilst we were in a&e

My mum was kept waiting for 16 hours with sepsis....I could go on

I echo Neil Kinnock - Don't get ill and don't get old in tory Britain

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/article/a-and-e-patients-seen-screaming-in-agony-and-naked-in-corridors-tpv8b6vj0

This is terrifying and as well as putting patients at risk, it must take a toll on staff.

Staff seem utterly blase ime. Just total lack of compassion

Maybe that's how they cope?

TaraTories · 24/06/2024 12:53

Yes, that's similar to my experience in A&E in both Jan and Feb of this year. Naked/partially covered pensioners lined up in beds along corridors either out of it on drugs or crying out in pain, people literally falling off chairs in the waiting area and people having to flag a nurse for attention, no beds free on the wards with wards with both men and women separated by curtains, loo on the ward had no lock, the catering staff were on strike so no food or tea offered for a full day when I was there for 2 days. Obviously I've had a bad experience but the level of treatment was really shocking. I literally could have died the first time I was in and they didn't do the adequate checks and sent me home. It's not a first world country system.

Some of them can’t cope. My stepdaughter worked in ITU throughout 2020. A very talented ITU specialist nurse is now writing policies. Such a waste because months of seeing every patient leave in a body bag broke her. You have to be incredibly tough to survive the front line of emergency medicine now.

SippingDownRakiAndReadingMaynardKeynes · 24/06/2024 13:19

Another recent NHS experience. An elderly relative collapsed early evening and his wife (carer) phoned 999.

Told no ambulances available and not to take him to local A&E independently as they were only accepting stroke patients.

An ambulance arrived the following afternoon and he died soon after his arrival at A&E.

I'm really sorry x

I've ruined 2 pairs of shoes by having to wafe through prime, faeces and vomit in a&e visitor toilets...just gross. No cleaner to be seen in over 12 hours...

Not to mention the viral/bacterial issues 🤢
