Johnson found a crumb of integrity down the side of the sofa cushion then.

newnamethanks · 24/06/2024 06:21

That was a chunk of self-interest disguised as integrity. Still, neither of them are Jeremy Corbyn so our sceptred isle remains safe from the socialist threat. Phew!

This poster has gone up on a billboard in my home town today.
Tory since 1950 (the town, not me). Labour predicted to win.

Love it. There should be one in every town and city!

I make it 10 days to go? Another leaders debate on Wednesday. Can it get any worse for the tories? I reckon it can Grin. And to think Sunak wanted one of them every week! I bet Keirs kicking himself he didn't take him up on that! 😂😂

This honestly feels like the longest election in history at this point.

newnamethanks · 24/06/2024 07:36

The Syndicate's knees are knocking. Maybe we should also have a sweepstake on election results? Or on what the eventual number of those involved in the Number 10 betting shock (shock? As if. I'd be more surprised if they hadn't been poised to exploit any and every opportunity that had a £ sign attached to it. Its what they're for). I'm calling more than 10. Faites vos jeux.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2024 07:45

This is madness isn't it? Suppressing numbers of people using public transport.

"Scoop: HS2 cancellation will mean fares increase between London and the north to reduce travellers amid capacity problems.

There will be 8% fewer seats on future trains after the high-speed line was scrapped, and prices are set to go up to reduce demand"

Another problem for the Shit List.

BestIsWest · 24/06/2024 07:46

This election feels like the longest ever so I looked up the lengths of the last two - roughly the same! It doesn’t feel like it.

IClaudine · 24/06/2024 07:50

The last full week of the Tories being in charge.

I think I am nervous.

Alastair Campbell has been saying he thinks there is something wrong with the polls. Perhaps he is just trying to make sure the electorate doesn't become complacent?

So many people are saying that!

BestIsWest · 24/06/2024 08:03

Alastair Campbell has never wavered from saying he’s not confident of a win - even way before this election was called. I know how he feels, possibly he’s just nervous of something going wrong.

I think the Labour fear is that people won’t bother to vote thinking a victory for Labour is guaranteed and their messaging is changing to get the vote out.

IClaudine · 24/06/2024 08:06

I didn't know that @BestIsWest . He is making me nervous too!

Scruffily · 24/06/2024 08:07

SerendipityJane · 23/06/2024 16:09

Well it was hardly going well.

Funniest thing is it was most certainly not troll infested. Almost all of the questions were very valid and god.

I wonder if we will be gaslit into being told it never happened. I can't see the results being published.

Oh, I'm sure we'll see something. But I bet Sunk has insisted on being able to cherry-pick the questions he will answer. If anyone asked for his views on Labour's tax plans, that will be top of the list.

I do think the polls are just a snapshot in time. My family members - are very disgruntled with the Conservatives, won't consider Labour (ever) and Reform dont match their views (or Farage is too much of a turn off).
They've made noises of voting Green but I suspect when push comes to shove they will vote Conservative again. I imagine that will be replicated all over.

Plus despite the obvious gibberish of the 'super majority' nonsense - I think that has cut through. I've tried explaining that twice this weekend and they may as well have stuck their fingers in their ears. Its seems like an excuse to stick with what they know.

VimtoVimto · 23/06/2024 12:04

Well he wasn’t very constructive when he won the Brexit vote. . The one satisfying thing about the whole debacle was seeing his and Johnson’s faces when they realised they’d won.

In an alternative universe I’d love Farage to be in a position where he’d have to do some work.

If Reform gets any sort of presence in Parliament, am I right in thinking they will be expected to do their share of the hard graft in committees etc? It's blatantly obvious that Farage will never do any of that, not least because there's no opportunity for showboating in front of the cameras. Could be interesting.

Churchview · 24/06/2024 08:24

I think the Labour fear is that people won’t bother to vote thinking a victory for Labour is guaranteed and their messaging is changing to get the vote out.

Our Labour candidate came up my garden path whilst I was sitting out there on Saturday evening. (Canvassing at 8.45pm on a sunny June Saturday - the dedication!)

He was completely insistent that nothing is a given and that people must vote. He kept saying, 'It's such a close thing' and 'Every vote matters'. It was as though it had been drummed into him.

NoDishiForRishi · 24/06/2024 08:27

Oooh the questions for Sunak thread is back...

BIossomtoes · 24/06/2024 08:38

It was the point Bridget Philipson was hammering home on LK yesterday. There’s still obviously trepidation in the Labour Party. Which is a good thing.

Cheguevarahamster · 24/06/2024 08:45

Did anyone listen to Chris Heaton-Harris on R4today. Apparently it was a car crash. Will need to check catch up.

countrygirl99 · 24/06/2024 08:52

He sounded like he was sweating buckets

Cheguevarahamster · 24/06/2024 08:56

Just listened. God that was painful.

BIossomtoes · 24/06/2024 08:56

What time was he on? I can’t bear to listen to all three hours of it.

Hahahaha as if.

DM has turned against Farge, so Johnson followed suit more likely.

Anyone else notice losts of new posters bumping the Reform threads in praise of nige?

Dominic Cummings was always saying the same and I think I posted about the politicos on R4 explaining it is akin to market fixing, and paid for by the parties largely. It is meant to guide and encourage rather than reflect reality from what I can tell.

BIossomtoes · 24/06/2024 09:04

Thank you Duncin.
