I’d guess they probably mean nobody had in inkling he was going to call one - snap decision. I agree I think it’s normally been used about quick turn around though.

Dog duty being paid. Cone of shame due to excess partying on news of election.

I'm on holiday so can I pay by beach tax please?

LittleBowSheep · 25/05/2024 13:35

Oops, won't upload for some reason...

Labour leads the Tories among every age group except the over-70s and the Greens lead the Tories among the under-40s.

He’s been out this morning, meeting military veterans at a pub, no press questions allowed according to BBC https://news.sky.com/video/rishi-sunak-defends-wet-election-announcement-as-he-meets-veterans-at-breakfast-in-north-yorkshire-13142847

Pillock. Since when was it a tradition for PMs to make announcements in pouring rain without so much as an umbrella?

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2024 14:22

The PM will be sent umbrellas I bet
Of all kinds of shapes and sizes.
I had ' umbrella ' by Rhianna going round my head on Wednesday
' Ella Ella Ella'

The electoral dysfunction podcast was worth a listen.
Jess Phillips said she had heard a rumour of some big sleaze scandal involving someone close to the prime minister that's about to break.
Would fit with the timing and possibly also with the absolute hash Rishi is making of it - keeps the press distracted.

I was wondering if it was gove and that's why he suddenly announced his departure.

SerendipityJane · 25/05/2024 14:34

Slightly OT, but can anyone confirm if Sunak did surrender his Green Card ? Because if he did, he needs to get a bob on for September. The US is quite picky about which failed leaders it allows in.

The PLAN is working.

Amusingly enough, trying to Google "Sunak Green card" gets automangled by Google (powered by AI) into "Sunak Greed cares".

People would be amazed how much LLMs have read, and incorporated into their prompts.

TheABC · 25/05/2024 14:55

I am so glad I am not a tory activist watching it commit hari-kari six weeks before an election.

At this rate, there won't be enough MPs left to form an opposition and we be reliant on Lib Dems/Greens to keep Labour in check.

What's the prediction on Scotland and the SNP?

Exactly the same thought crossed my mind earlier re Gove, any possibility his underhand dealings with PPE might resurface?

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2024 14:58

A few Scottish people on various phone ins are not that keen on the SNP. I do feel they have had too many scandals and people are just a bit fed up with them. Not sure if labour could capitalize on this or not , but the new SNP leader looks a hard nut!

Don’t they usually get them to become POTUS?

I can't see that being an issue - hasn't been so far.

Gove's mistake was he took Sunak's umbrella from the rack after he left from cabinet on Wednesday.
After that he had no choice but to step down.

No cats or dogs sadly :(

Boringly pedantic, I know, but you need to be a natural born US citizen (step up Boris*) to be able to be President. There aren't many barriers, but that is one.

*I know.

What's the White House wine cellar like?

Up to standard?

Does it have gold wallpaper?

Will Sunak attend Wembley tomorrow to cheer on his beloved Southampton?

As long as he doesn't actually come to his homeland I'll be happy. We have Braverman and Mourdant. That's enough punishment for one county 😉

Bloody hell! Imagine! He could be the first ever to get the double whammy - UK PM and POTUS!

This is the stuff of nightmares!

This is the main reason we can't have President Schwarzenegger.
