Badenoch wouldn’t surprise me but what would she have left to lead?

Who cares? She's black, she's a woman, she's expendable for the years that the Conservatives are in the wilderness opposition. Hmm

The men in grey suits will then choose someone more "suitable" when it looks like the Conservatives have a chance again - which may or may not be in 5 years time, but could possibly be 10.

LittleBowSheep · 25/05/2024 10:39

So I wonder which rats will desert the sinking ship today? 🤔

cardibach · 25/05/2024 11:04

Perdy cat also taking a day off, so here’s Cinders, one of the dogs I walk for the local Dogs’ Home, showing her excitement at the thought of a GE.

incidentally - of Sunak resigns whoever takes over will only be Leader of the Conservatives, not PM, surely? Once Parliament is dissolved we don’t have one (or a government) and everything is run by the Civil Service for a bit.

I would imagine that the Deputy PM would take over Shock Oliver Dowden, isn't it?

The Government doesn't step down on dissolution. Only the Parliament. They only step down when the new government is formed after the election.

So we've got this shower of rogues at least until 5 May. Angry

BestIsWest · 25/05/2024 11:12

Yes, I believe the ministers stay in place.

Ah, ok. Must have misheard/misunderstood then.

prettybird · 25/05/2024 11:16

But essentially Sunak could say he wasn't standing again and would still remain PM until 5 May (or later in the very unlikely event of a hung parliament) Shock

I'm a long time lurker on these threads. Getting excited for hopeful Tory obliteration in a few week's time. I've put my holiday request in for 5th July and have prepared my bingo card, although I'm going to have to replace Leadsom and Gove before the night.

Cat tax below. She's an old lady and doesn't really go out much now. She will be delighted to have some human company throughout election night.

The Daily mail said that the PM was in Yorkshire today. I thought they said he was having a day off for meetings ?

Isn't his constituency in Yorkshire, so he'll have at least a nominal residence there? WinkAmongst his many other homes Hmm

Will Sunak attend Wembley tomorrow to cheer on his beloved Southampton?

Ah @Cheguevarahamster !

Does anyone know if this is termed a "snap election" (as mentioned all over the press) just because he didn't go to maximum term? I had thought it was called that because of short length of time of the campaign period?
