I’m really enjoying getting to perfect my “ha!ha!” laugh with these defections.

Confirming what we already knew.

NEW: Conservative minister Anthony Browne confirms there will be a 13% cut in public spending if the tories win the election

13% cut to all unprotected areas - prisons, courts, local government, Home Office, transport.

This collectively amounts to a £19bn cut, comparable to the round of austerity heralded by David Cameron and George Osborne in 2010.

Torsten Bell, the chief executive of the Resolution Foundation thinktank, said: “The £19bn of cuts to unprotected public services after the next election are three-quarters the size of those delivered in the early 2010s. The idea that such cuts can be delivered in the face of already faltering public services is a fiscal fiction.”

Words fail me. They really, really want to lose.

Are there now more threads than children in private schools?

Been teaching 25 years. On MN since 2011. Never seen anyone care so much about education since Covid when (apparently) I did fuck all.

That's been "known" for ages - but hidden.

Some departments are getting to get increased spending. But many will see cuts.

Yes, WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE STATE SCHOOLS? Hmm

Another defection!

Sitting in bright sunlight when my phone screen is obviously hard to read, but I read your post as 'another defacation'.

My sincere apologies for lowering the tone of this thread.

Piggywaspushed · 30/05/2024 18:26

Grin That too!

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2024 18:27

Agreed cake - but the state of the justice system as it is - I can't imagine what would be left after a further 13% cut.
Ditto local government.

I hope the cost of that comes out of the election spending limit.

Bigcoatlady · 30/05/2024 18:35

The only way to cut 13% out of the MH service I work in would be to introduce medically assisted dying for mental illness. Too dark?

Is it education they care about or their and their sprogs social advancement?

fabio12 · 30/05/2024 18:37

So he spent the whole day trying to one up the Labour racism story, then got into a helicopter likely donated by the biggest racist he knows?

Brief catch up before off out again - thanks for the link to the slur @MrTiddlesTheCat

Perhaps they could increase the waiting list for autism and ADHD diagnoses, I just got a letter saying I only need to wait 7 years, I'm sure with their dedication to finding economic wriggle room they could push that nearer 10🤔. ADHD is a condition famously linked with patience after all...

Let’s see how Canada fares. If they have a boom economy after killing, sorry, euthanising from their trauma, all the poor mentally ill people, then we can see it work for us.

Ooh going dark but I do in all honesty think euthanasia would save the economy millions for TERMINAL cases. I would be all over it if I knew I could control my death. Needs to be iron clad into just terminal cases though - like France with abortion rights.

I've never been bothered about talking about death and have a will etc set, but I can see a lot of people who don't want to think about it and just the idea scares them. Having nursed my mum through cancer I am a thousand percent sure I do not want that ending and I strongly feel no one else should have to either.

I'm not sure if I'm watching QT tonight. Piers Morgan FFS 🙄

Notonthestairs · 30/05/2024 19:10

God the state of public debate - used car salesman Farage and the cretin that gave the go ahead to hack a murdered child's voicemail.
Neither belong on a news programme.

ShambalaAnna · 30/05/2024 19:13

Didn’t Farage say he was buggering off to somewhere not Britain after Brexit failed to meet the all things to all people impossible dream he envisioned?

Can we crowdfund a flight ticket for him? Construct a catapult even?

I gave up on QT a LONG time ago Grin

Farage being on again Angry is just further confirmation that I made the right decision. Wink

It's a further nail in the credibility of the BBC Sad
