Helpfully the Borister drew attention to it as well.

There's the poster there.

You need a video of Johnson, the paper headline saying he forgot his ID, then the caption - "Don't be like this guy, get your your ID!"

Efacsen · 25/05/2024 09:22

Thanks

I'm going to try and post this at the beginning of every new thread (if I can keep up!) as I think it might be useful.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2024 09:24

I think I may not take enough photos of my cats. I also can't get them to pose.

Not sure where both of them are. Asleep somewhere. They sleep 23 1/2 hours per day. Which makes them more active than Sunak.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2024 09:25

Times seem to be suggesting that Sunak has taken the day off to "refine" his messages/manifesto - does rather suggest there wasnt a great deal of thought put in before calling the election.

prettybird · 25/05/2024 09:26

Cat tax was ready and waiting Wink

Well, he's increased his family wealth by more than £120 million in just the last year, so the plan has obviously worked up to now...

That would explain why Sunak thinks "we" are feeling better off. By "we" he means I and by feeling he means am ShockHmm

Morning. No cat picture today.

Election night bingo as my tax. (subject to change!)

Dh's comment on that was "Hunt, Jenkyns and Smug won't stand" but went on to say, "but they can be replaced easily by the other three Grant Schapps." Grin

BIossomtoes · 25/05/2024 09:30

Oh those elegant felines! Their contempt for the government is written all over their gorgeous faces @prettybird.

It's pretty obvious that something spooked Sunak so badly he panicked and pressed the "election" button with zero input from anyone in his own party.

It's almost the equivalent of a ships captain hitting "self destruct" rather than be captured.

A lot can be inferred from the absolutely whack-a-doodle suggestion from the Tory dim that they get a new leader and countermand the election. This is the reaction of people who really have been sucker-punched.

Has anyone had a chance to see if there's been a chance in Californian school dates ?

That suggests more self awareness than Sunak and his team usually manage.
Surely they believe the plan is working?
Relaunch incoming?

One of the most astounding sights in nature is seeing a herd of elephants hide behind a few bushes.

I mean proper hide.

(It's also quite exciting to wake up in the morning and realise a herd has walked through your campsite, silently dug for water and left again without touching a guy line. But the footprints were there ...)

We had that in Hwange. They didn't dig but leave a big pile of evidence that they had been though.

Good morning, thanks for the new thread. No cat, so here's some flowers.

I think there's a search for a scapegoat beginning. Someone will have to carry the sins of the Tory party into the wasteland. Gove's exit stage left may have upset some deep strategic thinking (oh yeah ? ed.)

It's probably dawning on Tory High Command that whatever happens, Sunak is off within seconds of the result. (Because they hadn't considered that possibility until now). Which means he's not only an ineffectual campaigner. He's an ineffectual campaigner whose whatever-passes-for-a-heart isn't in it.

Not so elegant, but trying her best.

Have populated the spreadsheet with MPs/current constituencies and highlighted everyone who hasn’t left in the last 10 minutes.

Considering adding majorities for those standing but might be best to wait for a few days before wasting too much time on that. Might be a much quicker job to research by Monday.

cakeorwine · 25/05/2024 10:00

Betting has Badenoch as the next Conservative Leader at 5/2

I am surprised there's not a market on Cabinet Members announcing they aren't standing.

Or Cabinet Members to lose their seats.

Will this still be accurate by July 4th? We may need an updated version of whoever is left!

Cat tax. Flat out in shock at the election announcement.

By my reckoning the Conservatives still have 199 seats to select for the election:
31 seats they are currently deemed to hold;
168 seats they don't now hold.

By my reckoning Labour only have 64 seats left to select for the election;
9 seats they currently hold;
7 seats winnable;
48 seats pretty hopeless.

The figures are probably lower as I will have missed some. On the other hand, there will be more retirements.

Badenoch wouldn’t surprise me but what would she have left to lead?

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 25/05/2024 10:13

So if Sunak does resign tomorrow, we will have to find a different salad item to compare them to cos the replacement will be well under the lifetime of a lettuce as PM.

The sainted Kemi is itching at the bit, wouldn’t sunrise me if she did become leader although she is nearly top of my wish list for a Portillo moment along with Jenrick, RM, Patel,Braverman, IDS, Gullis plus loads more.

dontcallmelen · 25/05/2024 10:27

Duh meant chomping at the bit.
