Oh, Miss, sounds like it was perfect. 🥰

MissConductUS · 09/06/2024 16:41

Thanks, all. We did have a lovely time.

When I got married we put disposable cameras on the tables for people to take pictures with. Yesterday, we used a service that allowed the quests to scan a QR code we put out on the tables and upload pictures and videos they took on their phones, and it worked a treat. We have almost 200 pictures and videos that people uploaded and most of them are terrific. The real photographers left after about two hours into the reception, so these also filled in at the end of the reception.

DD and dear SIL have had breakfast at the Inn where we were yesterday and are coming over to open the cards and presents brought to the reception. The house is a bit of a mess so I'm going to do some tidying.

DH came back from Wembley and we had Sunday lunch with roast chicken. Floof approved. I did some painting.

Let the eating begin!!!! 😛😛😛

Picture didn't load. 🤔
Anyway, have made coconut choc chip pancakes with strawberries, blackberries and sliced banana in the side.
Am back to latte failure. 😢 Milk didn't foam properly. Looked like soap bubbles after about 30 secs. Dumped out three as couldn't be saved. Annoyed at the waste, that it didn't work and that I don't have a latte with my pancakes. 🤬(unless foamed properly the taste is quite differet, more like a cup of milk with a bit of coffee. 🤮)
Now back to wondering if it's temperature that affects the foaming ability. 🤷‍♀️

Miss, I guess people don't do gift openings anymore?
It used to be close family/bridal party popped by motb's home for lunch and gift opening. Has anyone else done/heard about this?

HildaTablet · 09/06/2024 17:42

That’s such a great idea about the photos, MissC

IWanderedLonely · 09/06/2024 19:55

Miss I thought about you yesterday when we visited a church, glad you all had a great day with lots of precious memories.
Mum when DH were married centuries 36 years ago, we had to display all the presents ( my mum used a pasting table with a tablecloth on as well as the dining table) and guests called in to view them and have a cup of tea in between the afternoon meal and the night-do. Couples ( mostly, at least in my small town) didn't live together before marriage so we had lots of traditional presents.

Sprouts we travelled back via Carmarthen, Llandrindod Wells & Shrewsbury.

Alltheyearround · 09/06/2024 21:07

Well, I have failed to get much done on my assignment (about dyslexia) but have had a productive day despite this. Phone Dsis and chatted about mum. Made pea soup and corn on the cob for dinner.

Did 3 loads of washing, cleaned sink/washing up bowl, drainer etc. Always feel better for doing that.

Did various therapies with DS - motor skills, speech and language, eyes and hand massage plus reading practice.

DCat joined in, she likes a story time in between naps on our new bed (ahem her new bed thank you kindly).

Online shop delivered and put away, menu plan done and shop booked for next Sat. I have felt unusually organised today. Filled up DS mini shampoo bottle for swimming. It's the little things!

Just got to do lunches and then back exercises before bed. Happy Sunday everyone. Hope you all have a good week ahead and some sunshine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2024 22:03

Lovely seeing new posters on our friendly little thread. 🥰

I, too, have been puttering about today: laundry, vacuumed, washed kitchen floor, big task (clutch your pearls, ladies!) was cleaning the lint trap in the clothes dryer. Took it out, cleaned out the whole thing + lint in door. Got another load of laundry in, dc are napping, I've got a cbc chat program on tv, I'm scrolling mn and defending celebrating small things on another thread 😂 and I've just eaten a delicious glazed cake doughnut with a cup of strong tea.
It is such a lovely day here: little bit of high cloud, breeze, sunny, but relatively cool at 22c. My home is clean, it's quiet and calm and I've been productive, but not run off my feet. If you are in the neighbourhood stop by for a cuppa. Salmon and new potatoes for dinner later. Stay if you like. 🥰

MissConductUS · 09/06/2024 22:07

Welcome, @Elderflower14 , and thanks for sharing your DS's football news. I will admit that I had to google Calum Best.

It sounds like you had a very productive day, Alltheyearround. Are you studying learning disabilities? My MIL, who passed recently, was a professor of cognitive psychology who specialized in reading disabilities and participated in the creation of the standardized diagnostic test for it we use in the US.

DD and her new husband did stop by to open their cards and gifts. They're staying in a hotel tonight and coming back here tomorrow to leave for their honeymoon. DH arranged car service from here to the airport for them. They're going to Japan for two weeks.

I had an emergency nap. Yesterday was beautiful but a bit exhausting.

Miss looks like you had an amazing day, so glad it went well.
Havoc glad Havoc seems better. I would love to call in for delicious food and company!
IWanderedLonely Carmarthen is the closest to us, around 30 miles away.
Elderflower14 - how exciting for DS2 (though I had to google too!)
Alltheyearround how productive your day sounds.
I have not been so productive but have dried a load of washing and ironed two. Been swimming and to church, but also had a little snooze......

bizzey · 10/06/2024 00:33

I have something buzzing in my room ! 😠😠..

It is amazing how loud it sounds late at night 😂😂..

mathanxiety · 10/06/2024 00:37

So glad the day went well, MissC.
The flowers are gorgeous. I hope your DD and her DH enjoyed their day too.

Currently watching Celine Dion murdering River Deep Mountain High on a PBS special, but I'm heading out to attend to the little cat I'm taking care of.

I spent the day puttering about, basically doing a good deal of tidying, and got half way through an Agatha Christie book, 'Nemesis'.

bizzey · 10/06/2024 00:47

Sounds like a wonderful day MissC
Glad it all went smoothly..flowers look lovely.

I bet you will all have fun going through other people's photos and videos ...what a fab idea !

Did the wedding planner stay all through the day ?

MissConductUS · 10/06/2024 11:25

Bizzey, yes, she was there from 9:00 Am until people started leaving around 9:30 PM, doing what they call "day of coordination", ensuring all of the vendors were set up correctly and everything went as planned. It was so nice not having to worry about any of those things.

Edited to add that she also brought an assistant to help. They managed the floral deliveries, set out the decorations, managed the timelines for the ceremony, got people on the correct buses to get from place to place, etc. There was plenty to keep them busy.

@Mumtobabyhavoc ·
Yes Mum I could have washed all my hair in the sink but having recently unblocked the bugger I thought against it, plus no matter how many towels I put down, I would still have water all over the place! Plus I had been on an early shift too!

Hopefully the man/men or even woman have been in today to sort it out or it may be a case of just agreeing yes we need a x and need to get one!

@MissConductUS
Glad the wedding went off ok. The church looked nice. Now you have the happy memories!

Another daft idea of mine - I decided to use tanning drops. It said to use them with your face cream day or night. I decided on night time. Unfortunately I forgot I tend to sweat at night. I also woke up in the early morning and put my glasses on to read. When I eventually got up The area around my eyes looks like Toad of Toad Hall's racing goggles! It is actually not that bad but not really what I was looking for! I did not expect "Hey! Just back from Barbados!" Just a slightly warm glow!

@Mumtobabyhavoc
I am in envy at all your tidying. I did plan to do some over the weekend but have felt so tired I did bugger all apart from laundry!

@MissConductUS I am studying to be a specialist dyslexia teacher. I am sure I'd have a lot to chat to your MIL about and learn from (sorry to hear she has passed away, sounds like she helped a lot of people in her life, especially getting the right diagnosis - first step to getting the right kind of help). I wish the world celebrated people like her more for their important work.

DS has done his exercises (yoga and cutting skills) and I have done mine (yoga and hip exercises for arthritis). I have also weeded a load of old books (business text books, quite dull!) from our library today at work. Its possibly a bit late to claim it as spring cleaning but that's what it feels like.

I have learned a new term - smoothing the cat (i.e. stroking the cat). She likes being smoothed and purrs away to her heart's content. 😻

Deathraystare · 10/06/2024 18:59

@Compash

Yes I suppose "They are coming to...." does sound rather mysterious. Do try it on your husband! For some reason (and I am sure I have never met him) I imagine him as one of those husbands on the tv who is hiding behind a newspaper and as you say "They are coming to..." He will dramatically put the paper down and ask you, in a rather annoyed tone, "Who is coming dear?" and you will say in an equally annoyed tone (because you have told him all week), "The men!".

I must say all you ladies have put me to shame because I have done no tidying whatsoever. I guess I will have to do some tonight.

Did anyone on my side of the pond (UK) watch that thing yesterday about the most expensive care homes? Wowee! One in Miami, one in Colorado and one in West Sussex, England. Yes you certainly need money and sadly the homes are a damn sight better than the usual ones. As they say, you get what you paid for. Although a lot of the 'inmates' had walking problems you could see they were healthy and happy. One guy looked very good for 103. The only problem was he was deaf! A guy in Colorado was 80 something and went ski-ing regularly!

bizzey · 11/06/2024 15:26

Warning ⚠️ ⚠️... possibly too mundane and boring even for this thread ! 😂😂

I had to get ds to open the new bottle of bleach !😂!

I don't know what it is about this particular one that I love...but I really struggle with the squeeze and twist action on it !! 💪 💪 😂.

Funny thing is ..I really love this particular one and it can be hard to get on some of my quick on line grocery shop.

But it always gives me a smile !

When I do mam's online shop and meal plan ...she always tells me to put a bottle of wine in for my self as a thank you 💓..

Was doing a shop for her a while ago and saw this bleach on a special offer...so added that instead as my " thank you " !

She was most put out !

She said Bizzey ...why did you not get wine in the shop..

I said I ordered 2 bottles of xyz bleach instead...

She laughed and said ...

I think I can treat you to a bottle of wine and 2 bottles of bleach 😂😂!!

So this particular bleach does make me smile ...and does something amazing to the toilet !!

Deathraystare · 11/06/2024 16:46

@bizzey
You are not alone in not being able to open bottles! I also could never open those plastic boxes of washing tablets. Ok I thought I would get the cardboard ones. Okay I know you are supposed to press a button either side but I still have to tear the box apart!!

Good news! I had a shower this morning and it wasn't boiling! Yeah! I am no longer smelly (I hope!). I decided to wash my hair with just conditioner as It is mega frizzy (apparently this is a thing - washing hair with just conditioner I mean). Sadly I used too much so now it is lank! Fed up with the frizzies.

Deathraystare · 11/06/2024 16:48

@mathanxiety
I di sympathise with you re Celine Dion! Boxing Day a kind porter said he would drive me home (even though the buses were working. He asked if I minded him playing some music. I said fine as long as it is not Country & Western (though I do love Dolly!). Celine flamin' Dion all the way home!

Deathraystare · 11/06/2024 16:50

@MissConductUS
Have you recovered yet??

Penguinsa · 11/06/2024 17:03

Hope your DD and her DH have a wonderful time in Japan MissC

Welcome to the newbies. Its such a lovely thread.

DD has sat her maths A level paper 2 today though not back yet and will be out for dinner with her lovely boyfriend who sat the same paper and will drive her back and come in for a cuddle with Floof.

Whilst she was out I hoovered all the upstairs as our carpets were getting rather tabby but DD doesn't like noise when revising. But 1.2 metres of floof creates a lot of tabby carpet quickly.

Yesterday DH went to his piano lesson then to Dunelm to collect an order but not there unusual for them then went to pizza hut to collect my order but came back minus 1 large pizza and 1 pepsi from their £37.99 deal which has 2 large pizzas, pepsi, 2 sides and 2 desserts. So I phoned especially as missing pizza was DDs who we got the pizza for due to exams though thankfully I had ordered veggie for us and she is veggie so we all shared and had enough anyway. DS doesn't eat pizza so he had garlic bread followed by cookie dough and ice cream. DD and I shared the second dessert and had the onion rings between us. Anyway they said to come back and get missing things but that would be an hour round trip so said no and then they said e-mail hq online which I did filling in a very long form where the branch wasn't even an option. They told me to photograph the missing pizza. 😂Lovely girl on the phone but not the world's brightest, very kind though so I didn't say anything and put she was nice on the form. They have today refunded £23.50 so rest of food just cost us £14.50. Very happy and I am sure that will be going on another pizza order very soon as we have 1 exam left for DD on 20th.

I have some RHS plants arriving today, keep tracking the delivery and they are going everywhere around our house in a big circle.

MissConductUS · 11/06/2024 18:26

Deathray, I am mostly recovered. Since I was out last Friday and yesterday, I have non-stop meetings today at work. So it's been a bit of a rude awakening.

DD wanted her bridal bouquet and some of the other flowers preserved, so she and I very carefully boxed them into two boxes (going to two different companies, for some reason). After she left for the airport, DH took them to be shipped overnight to the companies, which was hugely expensive because of the size of the boxes.

I think she's in the air now, over the Pacific on her way to Japan. Her room at home is packed with gifts and various things she brought home from uni.
