I spotted several teams of men in hard hats and hi viz doing surveying in five intersections when I was driving to Aldi late this afternoon, and I sincerely hope this doesn't mean what I think it means just as summer is winding down and the entire population under age 18 will be trying to get to school every morning and home again every afternoon in a few weeks.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/08/2024 07:44

Math, roadwork on my street past couple of weeks. New sidewalks and some repairs.

I've eaten some choc ice-cream and cleaned the bathroom. I really should go to bed...

SecretWitch · 09/08/2024 16:55

Happy Friday to all! So lovely to be back here along the calm and steady people 😂

I'm planning to get in a workout out and then tacos for supper.

I keep looking for early signs of the approaching fall. Today I found a leaf that is red so I'm busting out my pumpkin spice candle ( if anyone finds that alarming please let me know and I shall switch back to coconut beach!)

HelenaJustina · 09/08/2024 17:23

DC are all secondary aged (as of September) @Umanresources which explains why it has stopped working. Primary children not a problem in almost any setting!

Umanresources · 09/08/2024 22:12

Just got back from a funeral, which wasn’t as sad as I thought it would be. My uncle was 90 and it was expected really. I should have gone to another one yesterday, but I couldn’t face two in two days.

Having a quiet evening watching a 1949 film, Celia, a comedy drama, which is actually turning out to be pretty funny.

Penguinsa · 09/08/2024 22:31

That's sweet about your grandson Iwandered

Hope you enjoyed Norfolk Helena

Thanks Apollo Glad you had a good time at the theatre.

Drawing sounds lovely Uman

Glad weather is better Math and also watching a lot of Olympics here too, love them.

Nice to take Havoc to playland Havoc

Great washing machine MissC

Love candles too Secretwitch Guessing you are from North America using fall for our autumn.

I also put jam first Death

Yesterday DH changed a tyre on the car he had back from the garage as we had had a tiny puncture then got chicken food. Then we went to RHS Wisley, had lunch with a friend of mine who works with an ex politician and went for a lovely walk around and catch up.

Not sure when I will hear results of checks Havoc but I think/hope I have them all done my end but there is so much stuff. Today they asked me for 5 years references some of which are years back so I located their e-mails and was nice to chat again with them. Bloods also came in so sent those on. They also sent me a DBS form so did that and we did a call for DS. Looks like surgery is going ahead next Tuesday and been ordering last things for that, also have to go in on Monday. Cleaners are coming for a one-off clean on Sunday (last time came was 4 months ago) and they do half the house.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/08/2024 23:33

Very busy, Penguinsa! Sounds like all is in order and you just have to wait, but can relax now. 😊

Was out in garden with Havoc for only 20 mins and I was sweating. Hot and humid here. Picked 500g total in blueberries and ate as we picked! Picked some lettuce and parsley for salad as well. I think one of the romaine I moved isn't happy. 🤔

We have a mouse :- (
I couldn't find the traps, so I soaked a dozen cotton balls in mint extract and placed them strategically along the walls and by the closet doors.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2024 06:32

Hope it hasn't made itself at home yet, Math! 🤞

Found another outdoor movie! This one was at a park in North Vancouver. Was a very locals event. Nice and low key, families, lots of kids. Managed about 30 mins of the movie before baby was crying and Havoc ready to go although denying being tired... 🤦‍♀️

Saw a gorgeous orange quarter moon. Must google, I think it must be the Harvest moon coming? Picture doesn't capture the brilliance. Grouse Mtn in the background of the movie pic.

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/08/2024 12:42

Aggghhh Math I hate mice. Hope you manage to catch it,

I love the idea of an outdoor movie Havoc.

Have a party later. DHs family is not looking forward to it. ( huge back story)

DS is on antibiotics for a chest infection. Luckily the pharmacist gave him the nicer tasting medicine so it wasn't such a fight to get it down him. His oxygen saturation level was lower than what it should be at 94 but she wasn't concerned as it was above 92.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2024 13:28

Lemons, sorry your ds isn't well. I hope the antibiotics work quickly. Also hope things go well with party and that everyone gets along. 🤞

SecretWitch · 10/08/2024 18:06

Good afternoon everyone

@Penguinsa, Yess!! Been in USA since I was little! Definitely feeling falling here today.. cool and breezy.. so much nicer than the heat we have been baking in

On back deck watching husband mow the back lawn.

Happy Caturday everyone

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/08/2024 19:37

Well party was excruciating.

DS's cough awful but have everything crossed for a better nights sleep.

Penguinsa · 10/08/2024 21:53

Lovely cat SecretWitch

Hope DS is better soon Lemons

Outdoor movie sounds good Havoc

Hope mouse is out now Maths

Collected lots of click and collect things today, mainly for hospital or post hospital and I hoovered upstairs. Watching Olympics, love the artistic swimming. DD worked at her punting job. DH is on phone to relatives in France now.

Tomorrow we have the cleaners coming and we will need to pre tidy a bit then afterwards sorting out hospital bag and setting things up here for afterwards. If time and motivation will do some gardening.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2024 22:00

Oh, no @Lemonsandlemonade I had hoped for you that it would be ok. Were you hosting? Hope your ds is much better soon.

Penguinsa · 10/08/2024 22:50

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/08/2024 00:32

Hi, Floof!!! Handsome as ever! 😍
Not long now, Penguinsa. Make sure you have lots of yummy food and treats at home for post-surgery and lots of stuff to pamper yourself. I'd have chocolate, cake, dark choc digestives, lots of fruit/berries/veg for refreshing salad/snacking, hummus/tzatziki/guacamole and naan/pita for dipping, a treat juice like pineapple, good yoghurt...hey, sounds like my fridge/grocery list...just come here for your recovery!!! 😉🩷

Was on the phone 73 mins with internet/phone provider to sort a few bugs. Done and has forced me to open box with new line and hook two of those up. Ugh. More directions to read to set up features as has Bluetooth and ability to make calls with two different cell phones. 😵‍💫

MissConductUS · 11/08/2024 10:24

Lemons, I hope your DS is better today. Antibiotics usually knock back most the infection in 48 hours or so, so if you don't see some improvement it may be time to seek a different AB.

@SecretWitch, where in the US are you? I'm in a region of NY called the Hudson Highlands. Your cat is beautiful. I used to have two black cats, both females, Toodles and Java. With them is Scooter. There's a very old picture below.

Maths, living in the woods, we get a lot of mice. One got into DS's car last spring and chewed through some wires, and his petrol gauge stopped working. The cats catch the ones that get into the house, some of the time.

DS has driven up to Boston to visit a friend from uni, so we're back to being empty nesters for the weekend.

I went to wash three pairs of trainers (sneakers to those in the US) in the new Miele, and when I turned it on, it told me that there was a software update available and asked if I wanted to install it. I've never had a network-connected appliance before, so that was the first time I had used one. It has a special cycle for sneakers, and they came out really clean. I put them out on the deck to dry rather than using the tumble dryer.

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/08/2024 13:45

Havoc no I wasn't hosting my SIL and was who can be a bit tricky. I turned up with something for the buffet and she said oh no we have enough food and put my food on the side. Everyone else who brought food after me she put out. Petty things like that that make my blood boil.

The person whose party it was loved it and that's the main thing.

DS is brighter today except for a couple of coughing fits he slept well.

Floof is so cute Penguina. How are you feeling about the op?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/08/2024 17:00

Oh, Lemons that's awful. I'm so sorry she was rude to you. It must cause you a fair bit of anxiety anytime you are getting together. What was your dish, if you don't mind me asking?

Lemonsandlemonade · 11/08/2024 20:06

I made cheese scones with homemade butter on them and lemon bars.

DH said they were lovely.

Penguinsa · 11/08/2024 20:41

Thanks Havoc Would love to come to yours for my recovery😎I have done an order today for some food to take in though just seen they say only to take 1 bag and I need 2. Will check tomorrow, could always get DH to bring second bag later.

Thanks Lemons Those scones sound lovely. I have been busy so not thought too much about DIEP and not really sunk in am having it on Tuesday unless a problem arises for hospital between now and then but unlikely now. I am pleased to have it as I hate having one breast cut off and its been 2.5 years, you can get prothesis but its not the same. Only thing is hope there's no complications and stomach still looks OK after. I hope recovery isn't too bad. DDs A level results are on 15th and I won't be here for them though her school are very on the ball as is DD, which is good as DH isn't! I think she will be fine on grades but you never know until the day. I hope DH remembers 🙄

Trainers cycle sounds good MissC

Penguinsa · 11/08/2024 20:42

Just had a roast dinner and now watching closing ceremony on BBC, will miss the Olympics. Could do with more of it as I am recovering from surgery.

Apolloneuro · 11/08/2024 20:45

Evening everyone. I’ve been taken off my feet with a nasty bout of Covid. Feel rubbish!

Penguinsa · 11/08/2024 23:08

Hope you feel better soon Apollo
