Lemons, it's quite warm and humid here again. A cold crispy salad goes down well! 😛
Is everything okay with your ds?

Went to another movie at the art gallery plaza this evening. It was quite packed. Stayed for about a half hour before needing to get Havoc home. Havoc is really living the life of Riley with our downtown jaunts this summer! Went for "artisan" ice cream beforehand at
a place called, Mister. The ice cream itself was made to order. Had chocolate vegan, which I think was oat milk, and it was incredibly creamy and very, very good.

@Mumtobabyhavoc
I take after my Grandma who loved horror books and would read them before bed! Mind you, the telephone frightened her and it had to be put in the sideboard. Every time it rang, she would shout in a quavery voice for Grandad to answer it. When he died she had no choice but to answer it and would speak very loudly!

Penguinsa · 02/08/2024 18:26

That conservatory looks wonderful Havoc

Yes cat is something we have to investigate more MissC but there's pet passports here so no quarantine either way.

Got dental checks for job done and dental check up 8.30am but good to have done and all fine, even got told my tooth cleaning is good. Then went on to RHS Hyde Hall which has a flower show on, had a cream tea and latte, walk around gardens and flower show and bought 5 plants then came back and had a drink in our garden on our new garden table and chairs and could admire how much better our garden looks after all the work we have done. Op still seems to be on 13th, no call today afaik. Phew. Medical on Monday for job, gone private at Nuffield and should refund. Private dentist did for free. DH is still on annual leave from work and will try and arrange some nice days out for next week. DS opened the curtains whilst we were in garden which was encouraging.

Dentist had said about a water flosser and to use in bathroom so got one and tried it first time and of course Floof followed but is terrified of water and as I started it I heard a big crash like a big cat collapsing in horror and turned around to see a stunned and dazed floof. But he then recovered and very cuddly again and last night ate a buzzy fly I had in about 30 secs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/08/2024 19:18

Penguinsa, you really are getting tasks done! 👍. I'm impressed you managed the garden outing! 👏
You'd like the conservatory and QE park here, too.
I'm going to try and get out to Vandusen Gardens on Oak Street with both dc next week.

Ugh the heat and humidity...🥵
Spent the afternoon downtown with Havoc. Lots of Pride events kicking off, so we enjoyed some of the displays around town and murals etc. Took Havoc to the Bill Reid gallery as it was free as part of Free First Fridays. Havoc's first gallery! Home now and have had a snack; heading to Costco shortly. It's a holiday weekend for us, so Costco will be closed on Monday which is when I'd prefer to shop. Anyway, I'll likely come home with cake. 🤷‍♀️😋🫣

Wow you have been productive Penguinsa.

Oh no Havoc. It's horrible when it's humid.

We have a play date today I've made a cake with fresh cream and strawberries in the middle.

DandyDandylion · 03/08/2024 10:37

Toothless DandyCat has a fascination with water. He sits behind the kitchen tap, which is one of those long upside down U shaped ones. He then pokes it very gingerly to make it drip and looks a mixture of astonished and terrified when it does. Not sure he will be joining Mensa anytime soon.

MissConductUS · 03/08/2024 11:33

Penguinsa, it's good to hear that Floof can travel on a passport. Everyone should have a water flosser. It's a bit shocking how much food debris they get out from between your teeth.

Havoc, we have an ice cream place like that near us.

https://www.thebluepigicecream.com/about

It's amazing how much work they put into making the ice cream there. I may have to stop by and pick some up today.

Our son in law was supposed to fly back from the Midwest yesterday so that he and DD could drive back to his uni together, but all of the flights were canceled due to thunderstorms, both there and here. He's going to stay out there and DD is going to drive out there without him. Her FIL has offered to meet her a few hours from here and do the drive with her, which I think is nice. He'll have to fly back on her own. I'm a bit sad about her leaving today.

@Mumtobabyhavoc
Even worse was the old woman who lived in the flats when my dad was small. Absolutely terrified of electricity and told everyone it rode her bicycle up and down the hall at night! It is a fear thng. If they do not understand something.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/08/2024 16:17

Miss, I'm not sure I explained it right. This is made in about a minute in front of you for you.

Death, I'm speechless.

Dandy, I think a pic or two of your dcat is in order!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/08/2024 17:02

lemons, cake sounds delicious! 😋

HildaTablet · 03/08/2024 18:33

We used to have a cat like that, Dandy. He also adored the bath-taps with a passion and loved nothing more than to sit on the side of the bath when someone was in it, trying to dabble his paw in the water.

I'm ill again and totally fed up with it. I’ve been testing for Covid but it’s staying stubbornly negative. I feel awful, and this is the second time since I had something very similar in April.

Deathraystare · 03/08/2024 19:43

@IWanderedLonely

I hope you are in and sitting on your sofa/chair ready for some horrors tonight! None of this out enjoying yourself when you could be inside nervously peeping behind your curtains at every little noise!

Just reminding you to turn to Freeview channel 71 (Really) to watch all the paranormal stuff.

I have already seen Help my house is haunted as it was on last night so I will busy myself with a bit of a tidy when it comes on.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/08/2024 20:39

Cake went down well it was so light. I'm not sure how.

DS had best time with his buddy.

Hilda hope you feel better soon. 💐

Apolloneuro · 03/08/2024 21:32

Good evening. I live a very dull life, so thought I might wander in here, if I may?

So much of mumsnet is spiky, so I went off for a search for more gentle content!

I’m a lady in my 60s, living in the South West of England. It’s been quiet today. I’ve had FaceTimes with two baby granddaughters that live in other places. My naughty cat caught a mouse and I ‘pottered’.

I’m a part time teacher so on my long hols. Yesterday I had to ask Alexa what day it was 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/08/2024 22:46

Hi, Apollo. Welcome. 😊
I'm in Vancouver, Canada.
When does school begin again? We have much longer summer holidays here: mid June to after Labour Day.

Continuing the Life of Riley here. Took Havoc to a bouncy playground called Fun Box. It was SO FUN!!!
It's also super hot here. Temp is 30c where I atm. 🥵

Apolloneuro · 03/08/2024 23:19

Hi. School hols in England go from the end of July until September.

My Uber cool, purple haired octogenarian Aunt lives in Vancouver!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/08/2024 23:23

Apollo, yes, I remember now. Much shorter. I bet it feels like it's flying by! Have you ever been here?

Penguinsa · 03/08/2024 23:29

Welcome Apollo

Just done 3.5 hours gardening with DH filled both green bins and got a lot done. Also had a roast dinner earlier, Floof who like Dandy's cat will not be applying for mensa did though recognise the word chicken and got very chatty.

Sorry your DD is leaving MissC

Glad you have fun Havoc

Hope you feel better soon Hilda

Watching some more Olympics now.

mathanxiety · 04/08/2024 05:27

I barely stuck my nose outdoors today thanks to heat and humidity, but I did make the short hop from back door to car and then car to venue for a baby shower thrown for the daughter of a friend, who is having twins. Children's books were suggested as gifts, so I brought a few. I don't envy the mother to be in this heat.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/08/2024 06:01

Math, god I feel for her pregnant in the heat! I was late 2nd tri when we had that awful 44c heat dome in '21.
Hot and humid here, too, but I think worse where you are.

DandyDandylion · 04/08/2024 07:33

@Apolloneuro welcome, I am another newbie, but as you say this is a quieter backwater. I have found it very peaceful and welcoming.

After all this talk of islands I visited a lovely one yesterday. It is called Looe island or st, George’s and is only 22 acres. It was gifted to a local wildlife trust roughly 20 years ago and has one couple living there. They work for the trust, conserving the island for wildlife and welcoming a limited number of tourists. We spotted a large oil tank and were told this was the only power source when they moved in. They had to carry the oil cans up from the beach to pour in. Obviously they now have solar.
The picture is of my favourite spot where we sat to eat our packed lunch and watch the cormorants. There were some below us that were really very close.

@IWanderedLonely yeah it is Aberdyfi. We were across at ynys las.

West wales is stunning I mean Wales in general to be honest I believe packs a punch.

I simply adore Ynyslas, it’s my favourite place. You’re so lucky to be there, very envious!
