I got home a little earlier than expected thanks to light traffic, and I'm now watching the news and gearing up for the Olympic coverage. The weather forecast is horrible - the heat index for Wednesday and Thursday is to hit 100°F (37/38°C). We will definitely keep the AC on.

penguins very intriguing news.
Hoping DD will be OK.

Beautiful photos havoc and lemons.

HelenaJustina · 30/07/2024 07:37

Congratulations Penguinsa how exciting! What line of work are you in? Or is that too outing?

We’ve holidayed in Aberdyfi a couple of times Lemons I love it out that way.

As a summer holiday treat, DC2 has been invited to participate in early morning swim training. So I’ve been up since 5:45am!

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/07/2024 12:30

Wow Helena that's early to be up in the holidays when you don't have to do your DC compete in swimming or is it just for fun?

DS had swimming lesson later. He is currently asleep on me which is rare and lovely.

Deathraystare · 30/07/2024 14:55

@IWanderedLonely
Twins! Not sure where you are but have you been watching the group of Exocists who discuss cases. I find that very interesting!!

HelenaJustina · 30/07/2024 19:01

Lemons DC2 swims competitively. They normally train 7hrs/week in the pool and 1hr in the gym. The early morning sessions are on top (in a higher level training group) as there are gaps where other swimmers are away on holiday. It’s still fewer hours than DC3 trains at their sport but their hours are less anti-social!

Lemonsandlemonade · 30/07/2024 19:31

Wow Helena fair play that's such dedication from them and you!

Literally laughed out loud at DS' swimming lesson. Teacher said: would you like to play with the ball now.

DS said No thank you I'm don't want to I'm happy playing here.

I realise that that's not appropriate but he is only just three.

Looked at that job ( was encouraged to apply) but only a mat cover.

IWanderedLonely · 30/07/2024 21:00

Death not seen that - is it on TV channel or YouTube?
Lemons we've been to Aberdyfi and Ynyslas in 2022. We absolutely love the west coast of Wales and would move there if we didn't have so many ties/responsibilities here. Sorry for the English spelling, I do try to use the Welsh, correct version but I'd had a couple of glasses of wine by thenBlush
Hope you're enjoying the well-earned rest Helena (despite the early starts).
We were away this weekend and I managed to read the Revd Richard Coles book in 2 nights, as someone who works for the CofE, it was brilliantly and hilariously accurate.

Penguinsa · 31/07/2024 00:25

Thanks for all the good wishes re job.

Just been swimming with DH, and did 92 lengths and then had a Mcdonalds. Had cahms discharge call earlier and autism keyworker (Nhs) takeaway call. Contacted dentist to arrange dental check for new job - got appointment on 2nd and receptionist said to bring form and wasn't really sure. They've also asked me to get tests and 10 page form from GP, wish me luck with that! 😂I didn't have the mental strength to try and get through today. But ideally need things sorted before op on 13th. Managed to get a call for DS shifted from 12th to 9th as have a pre appointment on 12th for hospital. And DH and I did some tidying up and black bin out.

Floof was quite angry with DH as he went away for 8 days so Floof has 8 days playing to catch up on and DH was doing other things. Rude. But all is well again now.

Just catching up on Olympics. Love the gymnastics.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/07/2024 01:09

Helena, Well done re morning training to your DS, Helena. I'm a former athlete and actually miss the sense of accomplishment I felt from dawn/pre-dawn workouts. (Not so much twice a days, but the results were worth it).

Penguinsa, you've got your work cut out for you! A d good to know you're still swimming. 🙌
Lemons, 👍 to your ds for the, No thank you. 😁
Death, if you ever want to swap ghost stories... I've had a few weird experiences.

Took Havoc to the Bloedel Conservatory and a walk around QE park this afternoon. It was raining at first, so conservatory was a good indoor activity. Just finished a late lunch of gigantic salad and then coffee cake with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a cold latte.

sueelleker · 31/07/2024 09:20

Phoned the NHS blood donor unit last night. As I've mentioned, I recently dislocated my shoulder; and it suddenly occurred to me that a regular diet of paracetamol and ibuprofen wasn't a good idea with my upcoming donation! So they've cancelled my appointment, and told me to contact them when I've been discharged from the hospital clinics.

DandyDandylion · 31/07/2024 13:53

@sueelleker i’ve been trying to find out when our local centre is open as it always used to be drop in. Can’t find the details so maybe you have to register online now to be able to donate. I wanted to as they are asking for my blood group but never mind. I am on long term medications though and they have always been fine with that.

sueelleker · 31/07/2024 17:55

DandyDandylion; I think it depends what you're taking. I'm also on antihypertensives and statins, and they've been fine with those. My late DH had to stop donating when he was put on anti-convulsants.

MissConductUS · 31/07/2024 21:13

Penguinsa, have you consulted with Floof about the possible relocation? Cats hate change. You might also have to go through a quarantine process moving him.

Sue, it's probably the ibuprofen that put them off from taking your blood donation. It inhibits blood clotting. Have they scheduled your MRI for the shoulder?

Not much is new here. Our son in law is flying back from uni on Friday and will spend the weekend with us, then he and DD will drive out there together at some point next week. Now they have a proper queen sized bed to share at our house, so I'm sure he's glad for that.

The men in high viz have lowered the water level of the reservoir again for some unknown reason. As I was walking around it at lunch time a helicopter hovered over me for several minutes. Hopefully it wasn't the CIA. 😁 And the flowers on the deck are holding up will despite the heat. We have a hose on the deck, so I water them every evening if we haven't had any rain.

Havoc is asleep. 👍
Baby is in exersaucer. 👍
I'm watching tmz and eating my yummy salad while laundry is on. 👏
tomatoes, grapes, red bell pepper, cucumber, naan, croutons, goat feta and Olive Garden salad dressing. 😛
I wonder if there is exclusion info for blood donors online? 🤔 I remember having trouble fining info about this before. I seem to remember a lot of details are not posted bc they want people coming in, even if they can't be donors as it boosts their numbers for people in the door, allows them to interact and give info, and sign people up for future.

mathanxiety · 31/07/2024 23:31

Another piping hot day here with high humidity to boot. We are expecting storms tonight.

I managed to get to the local public pool for a late afternoon dip yesterday, and despite slathering myself with sunscreen, I've developed some new freckles. It took ages to wash all the sunscreen off.

The smoke alarm went off this morning, very mysteriously. DD and I smelled no smoke and went all over the building to see if the alarm knew better than we did but found nothing. The building was still standing when we got back from work.

sueelleker · 01/08/2024 08:48

MissConduct; I haven't heard anything yet, but it's only a week since I was at the Fracture Clinic. The consultant said it might be an MRI, or ultrasound.

Deathraystare · 01/08/2024 08:52

I had an eye appointment at a local hospital (diabetic eye appointment). I thought they would just check the pressure, make me read from the wall and that would be it.

However. they decided to do some lazar. I had had it done in one eye about 6 months or so ago. Just a bit. This time they did both eyes and it was very painful. My eyes are still very sore. I also have a headache (they said this was normal). Unheard of but I have actually taken two paracetamol this morning! I don't normally take it - even for my rheumatism! Still, I am sure it will improve things (or not make them any worse).

@@Mumtobabyhavoc

I don't exactly have any ghost stories as such but did believe I saw a shadow man in my room when I was younger but it might have been 'night terrors'.

My brother and I used to play in some woods near our home and at just before 6 in the evening it used to go very quiet - I guess before the rush hour home - and felt a bit 'woo'. Please entertain us on here with your tales. It fascinates me.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/08/2024 17:58

Good morning 😎☀️ Temps are rising again here toward 30c and forecast looks to be same for at least a week.
Have got a fruit plate of cherries, grapes and strawberries, bagels and a cold latte for breakfast then off to a medical appt. Fruit plate is already dug into, but sharing pic of latte as it is a thing of beauty this morning. Hot espresso, then cinnamon and then cold foamed milk.

IWanderedLonely · 01/08/2024 20:07

Ooh thanks Death that sounds right up my street! Will give it a go Smile
I have a heat rash on my arms (well I think that's what it is) it's driving me mad, especially in the night when I'm hot. Normally, I love hot weather and it doesn't bother me in any way, I'm putting it down to old ageGrin

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/08/2024 23:10

I wandered, interesting. I had heat rash on my arms a few years ago first time ever and not since. If I remember, i used cool water and then calomine lotion to manage it.

Having another giant salad, this time added romaine and parsley from the garden.

Alltheyearround · 01/08/2024 23:15

I made an excellent pasta dish very simple and healthy, then me and DS watched a programme on dinosaurs. I have done most of the washing, including a teddy bear who smelled a bit of wee as he had just returned from a camping trip.

The cat does not like feta. She says it is a bit stinky for her refined tastes.
She is happy with cheddar.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/08/2024 23:55

Death, I def can't watch shows like those! Gives me the creeps... I'm a scaredy cat! 🙀
Lived in a house as a kid with a few weird things my mum experienced such as: footsteps through the house stopping at the foot of the bed one night and they didn't walk away meanwhile family dog was running around the house barking like crazy.

Have now had a large handful of choc chips from the baking cupboard. 😛

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/08/2024 00:17

btw, the UK team won the fireworks comp.

Salad looks lovely Havoc.

I really need some new salad ideas.

Yesterday I was at work ( my second job) was hard going had DS with me who had not slept the night before.

DS and I had a haircut yesterday.

Have got to see DM today who has been filling a skip and forgetting that she is a couple of years off 80 years old.
