You can use clubcard points for that ferry I think Iwandered if you have any. https://secure.tesco.com/clubcard/vouchers/wightlink-isle-of-wight-ferries/UK-010023.prd

Those pics look wonderful Havoc.

Glad phone sorted Death.

Watercolours are lovely Uman.

Had lovely day out with DH. First washed silkies who loved that and dropped them off enroute as DH going to France soon then went to Sezincote House, did house tour, had homemade Basque cheesecake and cup of tea then toured their beautiful gardens and lakes. In Cotswolds so beautiful all around. Then went on to Oxford, went to Bodleian library and round colleges, had ice cream and drink and some food in pub. DD out working all day. Now at all night party.

bizzey · 19/07/2024 22:51

Bizzey, I checked out the site. Tower looks amazing!

DandyDandylion · 20/07/2024 07:19

I’ve never been to the I O W, looks stunning so will put it on my must see list.
I hope nobody had their travel plans wrecked by the IT issues, our local gp was affected.

IWanderedLonely · 20/07/2024 09:24

Thanks Penguinisa I have got a Tesco Club card 👍
Bizzey lovely photos. Now I must get my backside into gear.

HelenaJustina · 20/07/2024 11:59

School doesn’t finish until Wednesday but I seem to have already shifted into summer holiday sort out mode. Am helping DC2 reset their bedroom with DC3 queuing for similar help…

MissConductUS · 20/07/2024 12:38

My goodness, the thread has been busy!

Havoc, lovely pictures. I've never been but Vancouver looks very nice.

Penguinsa, that sounds like a perfect day out with your DH.

Beautiful pictures, Bizzey.

Things were a bit hectic at work yesterday due to the Microsoft outage. It was a lovely sunny summer day and not too hot. My zinnias are now taller than the deck railing, so I must be doing something right.

Thanks MissC your plants look great.

Glad things are getting ready for summer Helena

Glad you are having a great time Bizzey and lovely pics, never seen that tower before.

DD has gone to work again, impressive energy full days work including 5 hours sport yesterday and again today and a party until early hours inbetween.

Got some pics from Sezincote. The building to the side of the house is the orangery where we had the tea and cake.

Just had a salad for lunch and then an earl grey tea and toffee / chocolate biscuit. Need to tidy the house more today, done a bit of hoovering so far.

What beautiful photos, I thought that was south of France at first. I have been cold water swimming with dd at a Lido. I am now so tired I can’t keep my eyes open so DH is having to cook, what a shame!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/07/2024 17:45

Penguinsa, that estate looks so nice! What is the tea room like? I've heard the Costwolds mentioned as a nice place. You seem to really enjoy being a local tourist! I love that! 👍😊
Dandy, do you mean lake or ocean swimming? Growing up we always did lake swimming, but I much prefer deep ocean. How cold was it?

Havoc has soccer shortly. There's a cultural festival out in Surrey this weekend that I might brave driving out to. Fireworks tonight, but that happens late (for dc) and it's a bit of a gong show as approx 400,000 attend and it takes forever to get out of downtown after. I considered a splurge on a hotel downtown for the night and watching from there, but average is $500-$600, so a bit outrageous (to me, anyway).

Penguinsa · 20/07/2024 18:43

Thanks Dandy I love swimming in lidos and hopefully yesterday it was warm enough unheated.

Thanks Havoc, tea room was lovely with views over the gardens and to the countryside, they just did tea, coffee, elderflower or mint to drink and just homemade cakes to eat but the cakes were amazing and cheesecake was the nicest I have ever had. It said basque cheesecake which maybe a different recipe and DH had carrot, cardamom and pistachio cake, a lot of unusual cakes. A lido here is an outdoor pool, can be heated or unheated, they are for public use and got used a lot more again from lockdown. Fireworks sounds good but that is so expensive for a hotel.

Another sunny day here so going to have a second salad for dinner, its also as yesterday was quite unhealthy but lovely eating.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/07/2024 20:51

Penguinsa, Ahhh lido as in lido deck on a cruise ship... 🤦‍♀️
Cakes do sound amazing!!!! I made myself a little midnight salad last couple of nights with lettuce from my garden. Nothing else is ready yet as planted late.
Temp is only supposed to be around 25c, but without the breeze still feels a bit too warm.

bizzey · 20/07/2024 22:40

We are back from an amazing day !!

Photos will follow as ds took most of them .

We started the day with full breakfast in a little cafe in the park.

Well the boys had the full one! ...I settled for scrambled egg on toast !

We got to the dockyard and took a little water bus ferry to another area and went on a submarine!

It was used 1945 onwards .

OMG 😲.......their little sleeping berths were so small !

Got little ferry back to otherside and went on the HMS VICTORY.
Nelson's ship.

Then into the MARY ROSE museum.

Absolutely incredible how they are preserving it !

It is all behind glass panels untill you get to the top floor and then you have to go through an air chamber of 2 doors , where the actual boat is not behind glass.

Air ambient has to be kept at a certain whatever ....which is why there is a air chamber you have to wait in !

So much more to do and see there , that I reckon we will go back again.
Our tickets are valid for a year's worth of repeat visits !

I am going to ache tomorrow though !

The walking and steep ships stairways will have used some muscles I might not have used in a while 🤣🤣🤣.

bizzey · 20/07/2024 22:51

This is a small plaque on the floor of the deck where Nelson was fatally shot .

That's good you can grow things in your garden Havoc well done.

Glad you had a great time Bizzey

We are making progress on going through the house and upstairs is done so downstairs tomorrow and few things in garden.

MissConductUS · 21/07/2024 11:33

Your trip sounds grand, Bizzey. There's a submarine and aircraft carrier you can tour in NYC. Our kids loved it, as did DH and I. They even have one of the old space shuttles.

https://intrepidmuseum.org/

Things have been v busy here. DD and SiL arrived late Friday to start packing for their move. UHaul is a company here that rents trucks (small lorries?) for people who want to move themselves instead of hiring movers to do it. DD found out that they also rent these shipping containers. They drop them off and deliver them to your new home so that you don't have to drive the truck yourself. So we got everything packed in it and it'll be picked up on Monday. They don't have a lot of furniture to take, just a big bureau and a table and chairs. They'll buy a bed and other essentials when they get to SiL's new university. He's flying out there today, but will be back in a week or so to make the trip with DD.

That's a clever idea MissC don't think we have that over here, you can either rent a van to drive yourself but can be tricky driving a big vehicle if not used to it or pay a company to drive it for you and load and unload, some people also pay for packing and unpacking. We tend to do the company where they drive van / lorry and load and unload but do packing and unpacking ourselves. They take it to what room you want. I always do floor plans and label which room everything is going into though the removal companies are always amazed by that and say most people don't have a clue where they want things. It takes time to plan but easier to plan than move big pieces yourselves.

DandyDandylion · 21/07/2024 18:09

Last time we moved it was from a very small house so we did it ourselves. We packed everything up into archive boxes with bubble wrap as needed. We were also able to move over several days and it was local, so moved all the boxes into the right rooms first. Then we paid our local “man with van” to move all the big furniture.
He turned up and looked round the old house, let out a swear word and said he normally finds people having breakfast, not having even packed a teaspoon. We had hired him with an assistant so I just pointed where I wanted everything. Then once they were gone I cleaned the old house and started unpacking.
Now we live in a bigger house with two children so I couldn’t imagine doing it that way again.
Best advice we had was to have fresh bedding and snacks/tea/coffee making equipment ready to hand, so you can eat drink and fall into bed once you get in.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/07/2024 19:57

Enjoy your trip Bizzey.

That's amazing miss C not something I have heard of in the UK but someone is missing a trick.

We are off on holiday tomorrow. Just north wales this year. DS had come out in a rash all over his back shoulders and tummy. Will take him to pharmacy tomorrow before going if the rash has not gone. His eczema has started a bit.

Penguinsa · 21/07/2024 22:04

Have a lovely holiday Lemons and hope rash clears.

DD has been out today watching Formula 1 with friends. Had a Sainsburys order which barely made it through front door before DS swiped the cherries and 2 boxes of cereal and milk. Though good it all has vitamins in. Cleaned out both fridges before putting stuff in and cleaned whole house and put bins out. Had a bath. Had Sunday lunch.

Deathraystare · 22/07/2024 18:04

Nice pictures @Penguinsa.

Well I now have a new phone. I tried to charge it but nothing happend. I brought it into work to the tekkie porter and he simply put the battery in!! Doh! I am a real techno bimbo! I forgot to bring my old sim and don't want to use the new one so when he is in on Wednesday that is another job for him to do. I am really hopeless.

ON Sunday I did a bit of clearing up (not so as you would notice but..) I found my radar key (to open handicap loos and also found an access card to get me into my work unit which I had lost ages ago. Typically I find somethings and lose others. Lost both my bus cards - the oyster one I pay for and the 'free' one. I had not much left on my bank card but managed to get the bus into work. Who knows if I can get the bus home tonight!. Without a card I could not top up and a day card was £15 and I only had £7. I also left a bottle of water at home and did not make sandwiches for lunch!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/07/2024 18:50

Same moving truck rental here, Miss. You can rent pick-up trucks or cube vans/box vans. I haven't seen containers, but then I haven't moved in a while. We also have people you can hire from basic movers, Man with a van, as I've heard here, to cube vans and larger.

Death, quite the phone saga. Were I there I'd help!

Took dc to beach last night, Spanish Banks. Wildfire smoke had blown in so sky was very hazy. Caught the last bit of sunset. Operation pancake was earlier this morning: blueberry and white cho chip. Have got laundry on, sipping a latte and chilling for a bit with tv on. Will head out for play later.
