sproutsandparsnips · 15/07/2024 21:37

@bizzey excellent news!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 02:18

Sprouts, this one is more a locals' thing as it's in the church parking lot. You line up, order and pay in one spot then take your receipt to another and they make your food. You can buy glasses/pitchers of sangria. Tables under canopy. Chairs in front of stage. A few vendors selling clothing, handmade jewellery and kids' glow sticks. Some bad dancing, some good, all fun. Greek music and oldies. Kinda like a block party and I have been going forever. 😊
Went to the Latin Fest in Surrey last night. Was ok. Music was decent. Not very busy, but it was after dinner and near the end, I think. Area is a bit sketchy and when I'm alone with dc makes me hyper aware of surroundings, but was fine. Good police presence and they're always at events like this, however private security was at the Greek fest the other night. I suspect because it is private property.

Death, white in summer is classic. 👍 Saw you on another thread: solid comment. 👏

Bizzey, sorry you've got your hands full. You're doing great. Hang in there. 🩷

Miss, was hovering around 25c for a couple days but was at least 28c today.

Spent the afternoon at a wading pool with dc. Was very nice: just a few others there, quiet neighbourhood location and drama-free. The staff person there had crafts and various toys plus badminton racquets/birdies. Havoc was fascinated as I showed how to bounce the birdie on the racquet. Stopped and picked up ice cream and strawberries for dessert. Have now got us all washed up, snacking and making cheese burgers, corn on the cob and asparagus for dinner soon. Door's open if anyone wants to pop over. 😊

This might be a bit too exciting, but I was watching The Bachelorette this evening (I know, I know) when the programme was interrupted for non stop weather reports as the granddaddy of a storm is bearing down on the city from the west, with tornado warnings affecting the whole metropolitan area. The weather people are beside themselves with excitement, talking about a storm the likes of which none of them has seen, and the tornado sirens have been wailing. DS has just texted me to ask if I'm taking cover. DD went to bed half an hour ago. If we do need to head for the basement, she won't be a happy camper as she has to be at her job early tomorrow. I can hear thunder, but so far no heavy winds or visible lightning for us. The lights are flickering...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 05:17

Oh, god, Math. That would have me on edge. Fingers crossed it doesn't amount to anything. Stay safe. 🤞🙏
Update when you're able.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 05:22

Holy hannah, Math. Just googled. 😳

mathanxiety · 16/07/2024 12:35

All's well. We had quite a loud and flashy storm but the worst effects missed us here. Dcat rode it out in her usual safe spot behind the loo. She's a little twitchy this morning.

DandyDandylion · 16/07/2024 17:50

Phew Maths, you sound very casual about something that would make us in the UK wet ourselves. We don’t have safe spaces like basements in our houses though.
I got completely lost today on a walk that meant I ending up wading through waist high wet grass. There were some great views though so it was worth it. I also bought the newspaper for £1.50 that gives a free family pass to any national trust property during the summer holidays. I’m sure we’ll use it, probably whilst we are away.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 18:34

Math, Glad the multiple tornadoes missed you!

MissConductUS · 16/07/2024 18:40

Math, we had some strong thunderstorms yesterday as well. It knocked out our internet service. DH eventually figured out that one circuit in our household wiring in the garage had tripped off (we have GFI outlets) and killed power to the box where the fiber optic connection comes in, and the freezer in the garage. All is well now, but I wonder how well the ice cream survived.

I've splurged on a set of Sony headphones on Amazon Prime Day. DD has a similar pair and loves them, and they are 44% off, which I thought was pretty good.

Dandy, where are you going away to?

@Mumtobabyhavoc
One year I went to a South American festival in Battersea Park. It was amazing with plenty of stalls. They had a stall with all these different ways of cooking potatoes (I believe Peru has 365!). I had potatoes in a peanut sauce. Yummy!

One of our Philippino porters (the techie guy that helps me with my phone!) showed me photos of a Philippino festival in Hounslow. I was not aware of that but I do know about the Indian one, Mela.

I put Vanish stain remover on the white trousers so hopefully that will sort out the stain!

@mathanxiety

Bloody hell. Glad you and DCat are safe.

I went to put my coat on this morning, wondering why it felt damp. Oh yes, the deluge last night...! Course it is coming down now again. I do hate it when I am not sure of the weather (yes I know I COULD watch the news for details... I wear my raincoat and sweat in it so chuck it in my bag and then if it never rains I feel cross for brining it. Ah well. Could be a lot worse. Could have your weather, and in UK we always expect rain during Wimbledon (tennis).

@MissConductUS

What do you mean wondering how well the ice cream survived? Don't tell me you didn't whip it out the freezer ? "Gosh, we had better eat this before it goes off!" It is what I would have done. Well...you cannot be too careful!

Deathraystare · 16/07/2024 19:07

Guess what I shall be buying on the way home and it is all your FAULT!

Miss, my money is on ice cream... 🤔

I think you're probably correct. I did have some ice cream last night, but it was from the kitchen fridge freezer. I didn't want to open the door on the garage freezer while it was running to get everything cold again.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 19:45

Miss, Ice cream in both? I like your idea of having back-up! 😁👍😛 We had peaches and cream ice-cream last night. 😋

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/07/2024 20:40

@ sprouts well done to your DS. Pen y fan is quite the trek. is he driving to it?

For those who don't know is a lovely small mountain in mid wales.

Oh no bizzey 🙈 hope it's fixable.

DS going on his first pre school trip on a bus in the morning. I'm very 🥺 about it.

Feeling rough my chest is crackling when I breath.

MissConductUS · 16/07/2024 20:45

Lemons, can you see the GP about the chest pains? An x-ray might be in order.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/07/2024 20:48

Miss, my first thought was pneumonia. Lemons, contact GP to be safe.

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/07/2024 21:02

If I feel like this tomorrow I will but I may be better at pharmacy as they see you no appointment and can give prescriptions. Getting to the GP in my area is very hard going. First you have a phone call from the nurse. Then if she seems to think you need to then you see her then if she thinks there is a problem you will see the doctor or maybe get a call within a day or two. 🙈.

Thanks for the concern though much appreciated.

Penguinsa · 16/07/2024 22:14

Hope you feel better soon Lemons. Do you have 111 there, they can force an appointment here very difficult to get here as well. Sometimes offer you one in a month. 🤔

Glad worst of bad weather missed you Maths.

Just been to RHS Wisley and to Toby carvery for a roast on way back. Brought takeaway roasts for the kids but DS for some reason took DDs veggie one. 🤔 Pre op tomorrow. Said to allow 90 mins. Doesn't appear to be a COVID test anymore. History bloods photos msra from memory.

sproutsandparsnips · 16/07/2024 22:42

Lemons hope you feel better soon. If your pharmacy is geared up this would be a good option, though if it is a viral illness may actually take longer to recover as antibiotics will not work 😞
Yes DS is driving (will take around 30 - 40 mins and this is my worry far more than the climbing of it as will likely be busy.
Bless DS on his first trip so sweet!
My money is on ice cream too!
Penguinsa I do love a Toby carvery 😋
Havoc it all sounds amazing!
Maths what a lucky escape 😅
