What fucking fresh hell is this?

I came down with a headcold 4 weeks ago. By March the 29th it was much more than a headcold but not a flu either. It felt more like a sinus infection and I went to my GP. She said it was a chest infection. Gave me 5 days of antibiotics. I felt reasonably ok-ish with them but still sore and not well.

4 weeks from the onset of all of this and I am still not better. My cough has cleared but my throat is sore again and my ears are sore and I am still nearly deaf. And I am not getting any better.

This is not a normal headcold. Not any more.

It just won't go away.

4 weeks and counting. Does anyone else have the same thing?

Me too.... but since December.

PiggieWig · 13/03/2024 06:20

Oh god, I hope not. I’m two weeks in and every day I wake up and think, ‘today must be the day I start feeling better’. I’m not ill enough to be off work but I’m not well enough to do anything else.

I am the same as you.

Im just a bit stuck on the date. It’s only the 13th of March today

Palmsun · 13/03/2024 06:23

I have a bottle of liquid vitamin C and after another sleepless night and pain, I started guzzling it this morning. Just drink it down. Don't bother measuring it. It's a liposomal liquid so it's supposed to be kinder to bellies and the bowel. I am just going to start necking bottles of vitamin C til I get better.

Sorry, February.

I came down with headcold in middle February and it got worse at the end of February and I am still not better.

yup I’m in the same boat, my usual go to remedies just don’t work but I’m avoiding antibiotics

I’m starting to feel better after 4 weeks but still not 100%

JMAngel1 · 13/03/2024 06:27

I had this in Sept/October for 7 weeks. It was hideous. I had two courses of antibiotics and nothing shifted it. I ended up curing it with a beconase nasal spray - apparently the constant cough was due to nasal drip.

Yep 2 weeks of feeling crappy with a head cold. Not ill enough to not go to work but felt rough. Thought it was going then I woke up with a cold sore I swear the man in the moon could see and another 10 days of feeling (and looking) rough. Today is the first day I've felt like it's gone.

MoleAtTheCounter · 13/03/2024 06:31

Week 3 for me. The morning coughing fit is like I am a 40 a day smoker. Saturday morning I coughed so hard I tore intercostal muscles and now I can't sleep 😩

Theunamedcat · 13/03/2024 06:31

Zinc is supposed to shorten the length of a cold

I don't think you can overdose on vitamin C and you just oee out the excess.

Amazingly it took the edge of my sore throat. Nothing else is working so I might as well give a go.

If you are a hayfever sufferer then it might be time to get out the anti-histamines.

I've had multiple bad colds this winter, got worse again last week and then I saw the 'high pollen' sign on the weather, tried some clarityn and it got better. Tree pollen is out in force at the moment.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/03/2024 06:35

Metatone tonic is excellent,I got through two bottles after Covid.

It's actually unreal whatever the fuck this is. It gaslightjng piece of shit of a virus because you feel well one moment just to be not well again the next moment. It coming and going. It's on and off.

I felt better yesterday but by evening time the sore throat hit me hard again with phelgm and mucus heavy feeling at the back of my throat and ears.

I don't usually have hayfever but I will give anti histamine a go.

If you've had a course of antibiotics but aren't any better, maybe go back to the GP?

Luckydog7 · 13/03/2024 06:56

We had a similar virus, main symptom was awful sinus pain/pressure and scratchy throat with cough never had anything like it. Found out afterwards that it's been going around and is actually a strain of COVID. We didn't test to find out if ours was but know multiple people who had similar symptoms (sinus pain) who tested positive so might be worth checking. That would explain why ab didn't work.

If it's COVID, skip the vit c and supplement with vit d, zinc, b vitamins and pro/pre biotics as these are the things that make a difference according to actual studies.

Ginnnny · 13/03/2024 08:22

Since November over here! It's horrible, and now I'm pregnant it's sapping the energy right out of me constantly.

MorrisZapp · 13/03/2024 08:30

I had a spluttering, explosive head cold which mercifully lifted about a week ago. Its now back, and has brought a sore throat with it. Honestly I'm so annoyed.

orangegato · 13/03/2024 08:30

Is this COVID? I felt like this for about a month, still don’t feel 100% with poor sleep and brain fog. I hope it goes!

1983Louise · 13/03/2024 08:33

I've been stuck on this merry-go-round since mid January, horrible barking cough and dreadful cold for the last three weeks. My sister, daughter, granddaughter have all had it, we seem to keep passing it round the family. This is the first week since January I'm starting to feel well, it's also made us feel very down and tearful, it's horrible.

anoldcharter · 13/03/2024 08:35

same here, going on 5 weeks now - really bad ear pain too and just feel like head is stuffed full of cotton wool. Had 5 day course of AB which have mostly cleared the head cold/sore throat (I also had huge cold sore) but AHP I saw said because of infection I also have eustachian tube dysfunction which explains the ear pain. Unfortunately, AB not touched this, I have been advised a referral to ENT is needed if I still have this after 12 weeks 😥it is the worst winter illness I have ever had.

I did test for Covid when it started but was negative....

I have read steroid nasal sprays can help, so I'm off to get one today. Hope people start to feel better soon
