What fucking fresh hell is this?

I came down with a headcold 4 weeks ago. By March the 29th it was much more than a headcold but not a flu either. It felt more like a sinus infection and I went to my GP. She said it was a chest infection. Gave me 5 days of antibiotics. I felt reasonably ok-ish with them but still sore and not well.

4 weeks from the onset of all of this and I am still not better. My cough has cleared but my throat is sore again and my ears are sore and I am still nearly deaf. And I am not getting any better.

This is not a normal headcold. Not any more.

It just won't go away.

4 weeks and counting. Does anyone else have the same thing?

We all had this! Husband and I tested positive for a few days too (had a test left)

Rockschooldropout · 13/03/2024 08:36

Been like it since end of January and since then struggling with horrible chesty sounding cough .. constant snottiness and headaches and fatigue .. went to see the gp in the end but she said it’s not an infection but viral , so I’ve just got to ride it out 😩

HowDoWeDoThisPlease · 13/03/2024 08:38

Too much vitamin c can absolutely cause you problems, mainly gastric- diarrhoea, pain, massive flatulance. Also sometimes headache and skin rash.

I hope you are feeling well soon op.

Yep am on week 6, a couple of good days then back to feeling crappy.

My chest is so sore from all the coughing and ears literally sting. Nurse at our practice said there is a 100 day cough virus going round.

same here, going on 5 weeks now - really bad ear pain too and just feel like head is stuffed full of cotton wool. Had 5 day course of AB which have mostly cleared the head cold/sore throat (I also had huge cold sore) but AHP I saw said because of infection I also have eustachian tube dysfunction which explains the ear pain. Unfortunately, AB not touched this, I have been advised a referral to ENT is needed if I still have this after 12 weeks 😥it is the worst winter illness I have ever had.

I did test for Covid when it started but was negative....

I have read steroid nasal sprays can help, so I'm off to get one today. Hope people start to feel better soon

I've had steroid nasal sprays for sinus related deafness as it needs to be treated from the "inside". They did help. However they did have to be prescribed by the gp

A friend of mine had the 100 day cough and was told it was whooping cough. Apparently they are reluctant to call it that because it’s a notifiable illness or something.

TinkerTiger · 13/03/2024 10:05

I had a bad head cold. Regular doses of ACTIFED cleared me right up in 3 days.

Not all decongestants are the same, they need to contain pseudoephedrine.

Try this.

gegs73 · 13/03/2024 10:10

Sinus problems can affect your ears and throat after a bad cold. I’d try some over the counter Beconaise nasal spray, 2 sprays twice a day and see if that helps. If not I’d ask the doctor for a prescription one to shift it. I suffer a lot with sinuses and am always left like this after colds until I start with the sprays. Worth a try. I’d also take an antihistamine and see if that helps, pollen is picking up and allergies can feel as you described.

Whattheduck · 13/03/2024 10:10

I had it for about 8 weeks 3 lots of antibiotics and a course of steroids plus inhalers
It started as flu then bronchitis then a chest infection
I still feel washed out but the symptoms seem to have gone
Hope you feel better soon

Gettingonmygoat · 13/03/2024 10:16

My SIL has had this since before Christmas, 3 courses of antibiotics later and she is still poorly.

user1984778379202 · 13/03/2024 10:18

Oh god, I thought it was just me! Came down with a cold mid-Feb, still suffering. Head still pounding, throat still sore and every morning I'm hoiking up phlegm by the bucket-load. Just this morning tried to unblock my ears and now I feel even more bunged up.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/03/2024 10:22

I’ve had this twice recently. Not covid, just a particularly nasty virus. Still don’t feel 100%.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/03/2024 10:24

If it’s a head cold I remember those back in the day before flu jabs. I was a teenager and at school. Used to feel shitty all bunged up head felt so heavy but then loads of green/bright yellow snot was coughed up or blown out. Was probably sinus related too. Went after a week or so with not much extra help. Our immune systems are fucked because of Covid!

Boutonnière · 13/03/2024 10:26

My husband has had this for four weeks - seems to get better, then the barking starts again and the fatigue returns. He’s very fit and has not been dealing well with not being able to keep to his training programme. Actually went to the doctor ( normally very reluctant) who said there’s a huge number in our ( London ) area.

I’ve been in the spare room and so far haven’t caught it but seems unlikely I’ll swerve it.

Onand · 13/03/2024 10:28

It will be a Covid variant, hopefully it clears sooner rather than later for you OP.

ilovebreadsauce · 13/03/2024 10:34

Yes.i had it weeks in jan/feb Thankfully better now.

Jewnicorn · 13/03/2024 10:37

This is worrying to read. I started with what felt like the worst cold of my life (genuinely couldn’t get out of bed the first day) on Feb 26th, took me a week to feel better and then two days later I started with a sore throat and have had a horrible heavy cheat, sore throat, ears and generally feeling like crap ever since. Finally gave in and called the GP today and have been given antibiotics. Whatever it is I hope it disappears soon for us all 💜

Yutes · 13/03/2024 06:23

Im just a bit stuck on the date. It’s only the 13th of March today

Sorry but is it not completely obvious that she'd just accidentally put the wrong month? Do you always just comment to be snide about people's mistakes?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/03/2024 10:56

The one thing I would advise. Years ago I had bronchitis. Caught from DB. When I recovered I had asthma (it was there before but tried to ignore it) and it was bad enough that I needed monitoring with peak flow monitors, inhalers and regular asthma nurse visits, and I now have a yearly flu jab to prevent getting this.

Arraminta · 13/03/2024 10:56

Could it be sinusitis? I had flu, not just a heavy cold, over Christmas. It took about three weeks to clear but I was left with awful headaches and a blocked nose for weeks. In fact it's only recently gone since I started maxing out on Vit C and carogeen moss drinks which you can get from Holland & Barrett.

Octopuslethargy · 13/03/2024 11:11

My DH did- turned out to be thyroid cancer

ElmtreeMama · 13/03/2024 12:02

3 months and still deaf, been referred to ENT now. Although I'd say mine was definitely flu

SneakySnakeEx · 13/03/2024 12:13

A relative has had this since Dec
Feels ok for 3 or 4 days then rough again. Berocca helps

HelenDamnation1 · 13/03/2024 12:21

I had it for 4 weeks before Christmas. And now it's back. I can't bear it. I have an in-person work event tomorrow. I'm supposed to be fucking chairing it but would feel dreadful if I gave it to anyone.

What do people think? Should I go and wear a facemask or will I look like a twat?
