What fucking fresh hell is this?

I came down with a headcold 4 weeks ago. By March the 29th it was much more than a headcold but not a flu either. It felt more like a sinus infection and I went to my GP. She said it was a chest infection. Gave me 5 days of antibiotics. I felt reasonably ok-ish with them but still sore and not well.

4 weeks from the onset of all of this and I am still not better. My cough has cleared but my throat is sore again and my ears are sore and I am still nearly deaf. And I am not getting any better.

This is not a normal headcold. Not any more.

It just won't go away.

4 weeks and counting. Does anyone else have the same thing?

i luckily wasn’t too bad with it but I had a sore throat (hurt when I swallowed) for about 3 weeks which is very unusual for me. Every time I thought I was better it started again, I was just about to contact doctors when thankfully it did clear.

WoodBurningStov · 14/03/2024 07:26

My gp is calling it the 100 day cold (sorry folks), loads of it going around at the moment

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 14/03/2024 07:32

I've had this since mid-Jan. Been better the last couple of weeks but it's a very sticky bug.

I thought whooping cough was called a 100 day cough.

I think I had whooping cough as a child. I remember coughing a lot and GP said whooping cough. I was very small. My poor parents were likely tormented by it.

One would think I would have some immunity to that.

In all fairness, my cough is not bad and the cough seems to be gone or clearing and whatever cough is there is mainly in the morning and likely coughing up gunk from my sleep.

It's other headcold stuff.

Another morning here and still not better.

4 weeks now from the onset of all of this.

Metatone is alcoholic, I had to return it to the pharmacy after reading about it on here.

Palmsun · 14/03/2024 08:26

Fucking hell

Reading all of your experiences and this going on for months for some of you.😢.

I'm so sorry.

I'm absolutely beginning to rage with over the counter medicines.

I had this from the beginning of December - mid February. I felt like you until beginning of February and then my breathing went funny and I became quite seriously unwell. Three rounds of antibiotics later and I am finally better, although lost all energy.

Not covid, I tested! Whatever it is, it's horrific. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Fantapops · 14/03/2024 08:49

Immune tea from lidl, echinacea, olbas oil, antibiotics, painkillers and soothers finally cleared it for me but if I missed one of those things I'd be violently ill again.

I have a bottle of liquid vitamin C and after another sleepless night and pain, I started guzzling it this morning. Just drink it down. Don't bother measuring it. It's a liposomal liquid so it's supposed to be kinder to bellies and the bowel. I am just going to start necking bottles of vitamin C til I get better.

Vit D3 is way more beneficial for colds/flus etc.

mummymeister · 14/03/2024 09:42

My GP surgery is calling this the 90 day cold. So many family and friends have it, its unreal. He just told me it has to run its course and thats it.

ChihuahuasREvil · 14/03/2024 09:44

Same here, plus lots of people I know. It seems to be an evil brute of a lingering cold that everyone’s getting.

thislittlebird · 14/03/2024 09:49

I had this, started January 1st and wiped me out for most of January. I’m pregnant so I couldn’t take anything much for it, but was attached to the humidifier and bowls of olbas oil steam into February. I’ve only really shifted the lingering cough in the last couple of weeks (and another cough seems to have rocked up, but that’s likely a separate issue).

The toxic thief I work with in a charity shop in sherborne, told me it's cos I smoke.

billybear · 14/03/2024 09:54

i started 29th december only fully better mid feb, never been so ill in my life, sleep as much as you can i uppedc my fruit and veg and took vitamins im cheshire it was all over this area, worst jan of my life get well soon

Mourningmorningsleep · 14/03/2024 09:58

I've been ill a while. Got a sore throat after the chest infection cleared. Turns out the antibiotics had caused oral thrush, and thrush on my throat was causing the pain. Stick out your tongue, is it white? The antifungal medicine cleared it up in under a week. Never had soreness from thrush before. Still feeling rough from the slow recovery from the chest infection, the cough and fatigue just go on for bloody ever.

Silvers11 · 14/03/2024 10:06

Unfortunately, what you are describing is a virus which has been doing the rounds. I had it in December and was well into February before it (finally) departed. It's horrible OP but you will get there.

Please be careful about medication. It's possible to overdose, especially on Paracetamol. Even as few as 6 taken very close together can cause Liver damage

Hope you feel better soon.

CrushingOnRubies · 14/03/2024 10:50

I've had this.. I'm only starting to get back to normal

Roystonv · 14/03/2024 10:58

Looks like I'm just starting the journey then. Ten days today and keep expecting to wake up feeling better. Sore throat gone, earache gone but quite deaf in one ear. Nosebleeds atm. Not ill ill but just below par. Am so missing cuddles with 6 month old grandchildren. One who was diagnosed with whooping cough about a month ago and one very snotty atm.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 14/03/2024 11:00

My daughter is on her 6th week.. her teenage son 8th week.
It's like covid but not testing covid. Lumps on throat. Hacking cough.Being sick with cough. Headaches.. face aches.
I have got it a bit now but not as bad as them. Hopefully mine won't get worse.
I think since covid we are going to get these awful infections for a long time to come.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/03/2024 11:16

Sounds the same as my lurgy. 2 weeks now.

You and your husband must have a great GP to find throid cancer from a headcold. I hope all goes well with his treatment going forward.

GP appointment at 11 am- diagnosed in hospital by 5pm and admitted.
(now the getting a GP appointment had taken a month as non urgent!)

My friend's nutritionist suggested garlic tablets.

The face aches will be sinus related. If it carries on go to the doctor because she might need antibiotics. One particularly bad sinus infection I got I had to have 2 lots of antibiotics before it cleared it, a while ago though.

Onand · 13/03/2024 10:28

It will be a Covid variant, hopefully it clears sooner rather than later for you OP.

How can it be covid variant if most of us are testing negative for this?

theremustbecake · 14/03/2024 11:37

I had the 100 day cough/sinus infection from Sept to Jan. Fingers crossed it won't come back, coughing for so long was exhausting. It wasn't Covid. I was so close to taking antibiotics but thankfully it finally went away.

Try hot steam and home made ginger shots.
