What fucking fresh hell is this?

I came down with a headcold 4 weeks ago. By March the 29th it was much more than a headcold but not a flu either. It felt more like a sinus infection and I went to my GP. She said it was a chest infection. Gave me 5 days of antibiotics. I felt reasonably ok-ish with them but still sore and not well.

4 weeks from the onset of all of this and I am still not better. My cough has cleared but my throat is sore again and my ears are sore and I am still nearly deaf. And I am not getting any better.

This is not a normal headcold. Not any more.

It just won't go away.

4 weeks and counting. Does anyone else have the same thing?

There are talks going on! Go into Google scholar and look up studies that have examined the ongoing impact of covid on the immune system. (Or, if you are interested, the ongoing impact on the brain, heart or other major organs). It’s not a fun read.

I don't see anyone standing up and shouting about it. Where are the scientists and doctors seeing all of this damaging stuff with covid? Why are they not talking out?

Covid is behaving like a cold and spreading like a respiratory cold, if it's as damaging as say hiv or aids, why is it allowed to spread without any controls from governments?

If it's as damaging as you say, nothing is going to work going forward with large portions of the population's getting ill and sick several times a year. Everything like businesses and healthcare will collapse eventually without people to work or performing more poorly.

@Palmsun your posts suggest health anxiety. You shouldn't start on a nebuliser unless it's advised by a dr.

This thread could be making you worse because you'll think it's going to last months.

I suggest contacting your GP to discuss the depression as that will be exacerbating everything. Good luck

What stupidity is this? What a lowlife minimiser you are.

They are shouting from the rooftops but the majority are not listening. Preeminent doctors and scientists are warning us what is in store. It’s pretty scary so I’m not surprised by the head in sand approach. Unfortunately cases like yours will continue to strike so you’ll have to take notice but by then it’ll be too late.

Woke this morning, still not better. Feel groggy as fuck and my partner thinks I am mad due to the prolonged spell of this thing.

What was the point of the vaccines if the virus can still wreck havoc on bodies?

I've had sinus pressure, low level not feeling great but not enough to be "ill" since mid February, unfortunately it is now tree pollen season so whatever that was is now morphing with my normal hay fever symptoms Easter Confused

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/03/2024 09:28

Not sure if I mentioned this to anyone but when I got Sinutab this really helped with my sinus pain. Way better than Lemsip max.

They do help to prevent hospitalisation and death. That’s about it. Those of us who are actively protecting themselves are praying for a sterilising vaccine. Until then I’m afraid we’re all stuffed.

ginislife · 17/03/2024 09:56

Wednesday I was saying I felt the best I'd felt for over 3 weeks. By Friday it was back as a cough - new symptom- and the runny nose and feeling crap. I need it to do one now as I feel rubbish and I'm busy with work !!!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/03/2024 09:58

Just saying, try garlic tablets and zinc tablets to prevent it. Friend’s nutritionist recommended both.

We are not allowed stuffed. I was a firm believer that governments should have adopted aggressive health/hygiene campaigns and if COVID is as bad as what it's said to be, doctors and scientists should be pressuring governments to go down that route. The amount of people I see that coughs into your face, or your meal or into the room openly - rudeness and bad manners is everywhere. I know not every cough is from an viral or infectious disease but still manners should be adopted by everyone. I know it's not an answer but it would help. Amazingly when I got covid and other doses but I never passed it onto to my family or close contacts in work because I carried out hygiene and manners. I believe there should be TV adverts made to display appropriate manners and hygiene like appropriate hand washing, sneezing and coughing. It would help a little bit if everyone was more mindful of manners.

@mumatlast14 yet they've literally just said that we should stop talking about long Covid as post viral fatigue is a totally normal thing?

There are 1000's of studies showing the damage covid causes. The long term impact can be referred to as whatever you like - long covid, post infection damage, secondary damage, post viral syndrome. The fact remains covid doesn't just disappear. WHO, British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing to name but a few have regularly petitioned gov to acknowledge the danger. UK stats on having highest sickness absence levels in employment and education. NHS staff are also fighting to have long covid acknowledged in court. Other countries are taking it seriously with laws on ventilation in public spaces and use of HEPA filters and listing long covid in disability acts. Also major testing trials for nasal vaccines which not only stop covid infection but also prevents transmission are looking very successful. Sadly UK seems to have gone down the head in sand route and are putting money above health (which wont be a saving long term). Just hope that UK residents can access the new nasal vaccines when they are made available abroad unlike previous antivirals which UK wouldn't purchase.

mumatlast14 · 17/03/2024 10:53

@GiggleHoot totally agree. It just depressing the poor messaging on this. Got everything crossed for the nasal vaccines, they are looking extremely positive in stopping covid infection and transmission - just hope we can get them here!

Palmsun · 17/03/2024 14:17

This is by far worse than when I had covid. When I had covid I was allowed to be sick. I had a week of symptoms followed by a week of no taste or smell and that was distressing for me.

But this,

I am ill but not fluey sick and I am just not allowed to be sick. I am expected to keep on going. I am also nearly deaf. My hearing is just so muddled and people know this but still talk to me with I struggle to hear anything.

4 weeks of various headcold symptoms varying in different levels of intensities.

Please don't worry about COVID wrecking your immune systems. You will likely feel run down for a bit after any illness and it takes time for the immune system to build back up again. COVID isn't going to be any different.

If COVID is very damaging and it wrecks the immune system permanently, surely there would be talks going on in science and healthcare and governments all around the world.

I have a condition where I am prone to infections (different infections).

I had COVID in 2022.

Since my spell of COVID in 2022, I was able to manage my condition well and with limited flares. So if covid wrecks the immune systems permanently, I would be down a long time ago. I am walking and living proof that the immune system must bounce back after covid.

I have a typical pattern when I get a cold... Sore throat for less than 24 hours, then snotty cold for a few days. I usually recover quite quickly.

I'm over two weeks in now. The sore throat persists, sometimes I feel like it is easing, then it is back with a vengeance. My ears hurt, my eyes are gloopy when I get up in the morning and even my jaw is hurting intermittently. I've never had anything like this, it's weird and annoying!

BelleStar2023 · 17/03/2024 22:01

I see a couple of people have mentioned eye infections. That’s what started mine off in December (never had a proper eye infection before). Then came the fatigue, aches, chills, sweats, and cough.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I’m now in week 12 of this. The only remaining symptoms are fatigue and cough. However, the cough has definitely improved and my energy levels are also getting better (but are still nowhere near where they should be for someone in their 30s!).

Palmsun · 18/03/2024 17:39

I think I am finally on the mend. There's much less of the phelgm and mucus at the back of the throat. The cough seems to be gone. The sore throat is gone. I do have some body aches and pains this weekend and a raised temp but not a fever and some fatigue. I don't think it's a new virus because my daily contacts are low. My hearing is still very dull and bad. All in all there's much less pains in my head than there was. Today is the first day that I am gone without cold and pain meds. Except for hayfever meds. I don't usually experience hayfever but I am taking hayfever anti histamine anyways in case it's a reaction to something.

Although I am aware they maybe I might be speaking too early and I might wake up tomorrow sick again.

Currently have the slow cooker on and infusing water with lemons, limes, orange, cinnamon, honey - don't know how it's going to turn out but looking forward to it.

I have bags of over the counter meds and supplements from the past 4 weeks and it's crazy. I have a stack of stuff.
It crazy - if the virus doesn't cause me long term issues and fuck me up, I will likely fuck myself up with all the over the counter medicines.

What a fucking dose.

The worst part of it all was definitely other people's reactions to me being ill. 'Its just a headcold' and expecting me to keep on going and going and going and going.

Silvers11 · 18/03/2024 17:42

Glad you think you are finally on the mend OP - not before time, though. It's a pain of a virus. Hope you are now on the up and up and don't get taken down again

ErinBell01 · 18/03/2024 20:20

My husband and I are finally on the mend after weeks of being ill with a head cold/chest infection. We still feel wiped out and my throat is rough and I cough at night. It's definitely not in the mind! It's the first infection for either of us since Covid in June 2022, but it's definitely not nice and we are thankful we're retired and don't have jobs and young kids to look after.

ErinBell01 · 18/03/2024 20:33

As posted elsewhere, I've had this awful cough cold etc etc for weeks. I suppress the tickly cough with no sugar Polo mints. After sucking one my cough stops for quite a while, much better than the sickly sweet sugary cough sweets. Doctor told me to take them years ago, he said they were much better than a cough bottle that I'd asked about. Now every coat and jacket have half a pack of Polos secreted away for emergencies, but honestly they work a treat and quite cheap.

Week 3 for me. The morning coughing fit is like I am a 40 a day smoker. Saturday morning I coughed so hard I tore intercostal muscles and now I can't sleep 😩

I had exactly the same thing ! Several weeks of coughing culminated in a MASSIVE coughing fit which led to tearing an intercostal muscle: ouch ! It hurts ! It's starting to hurt a bit less now after 1 week

CinnamonTart · 18/03/2024 23:25

I had the MF (mother fucker) cold - I took sudafed for 2 days and ibuprofen to deal with the congestion and inflammation - and also 1000mg vit c, vit d and Quercetin - 1 tab and K2 - 150mcg daily and then it went in a few days.
