How old were you when you lost your virginity?

And if you have children old enough, how old were they?

I keep hearing about how kids are losing their virginity younger and younger now so I was curious to know how old you were, compared to your children.

I was 17. Dh was 13.

DD is 10 and still at the age where anything sexual grosses her out (thank god). They are currently doing sex education at school at the moment and she comes home horrified every time

@Issueatwork omg saaamee!!! I was 14 and it was with my friends step brother and I just wanted to see if it hurt, which it did once in so I told him to stop and then I was 17 and it was proper and I've always wondered which age to class it

Hahaha glad I’m not alone. I don’t think it was even an inch in tbh and I’d rather suppress the memory so gonna go with 18 🤣

Koalaslippers · 21/02/2024 11:43

15, at the time I felt mature enough and consenting. Looking back I was groomed, even by 18 I knew what he had done was wrong.

Midnightrunners · 21/02/2024 11:44

16

APurpleSquirrel · 21/02/2024 11:45

I was 19, nearly 20; DH was 19 - met at uni, both each others first & still together now nearly 25 years later.

Oneofthesurvivors · 21/02/2024 11:47

13, it wasn't consensual.

Deliberationdivinationdesperation · 21/02/2024 11:47

Just turned 15. Out of me and my two best friends at the time I was the last to do it, they were both 14.

18, with my first boyfriend, although I’d done plenty of other “stuff” from about 16. I was late compared to some friends who started having sex at 14 although only in relationships with boys their age.

One of my best friends lost hers at 18 to a boy who she was in love with, but he just used her for a one night thing. It was heartbreaking to see how sad she was about it. To that end, I believe it’s more about the circumstances than about age (although anything under 15 feels premature even in the best of circumstances - and yes I know the age of consent).

weebarra · 21/02/2024 11:49

I was 15, my boyfriend was 16. I was about average for my friendship group.
DS1 is 16 and hasn't had a girlfriend so I don't think he has.
DS2 is 13 and has ASD, not interested in sex at the moment.

Illpickthatup · 21/02/2024 11:49

I was 15. My DH was 13!

Not 100% sure on the kids but I think my oldest DSS was 16 and my youngest DSS 14/15.

Mairzydotes · 21/02/2024 11:50

I was 15 , in the late 90s . That was the usual amongst my peer group.

Not sure about my teen , they don't spend a lot of time socialising with others in person, so I don't think the opportunity has been there.

specialk9 · 21/02/2024 11:51

14, 2 months before I was 15. I'd been with my boyfriend for 4 months and we did it on Valentine's Day. We were together for 5 years. I don't regret it, or feel it was too young in the circumstances. We were in young love, bless us! It felt right. I didn't feel pressured. It was awful mind 🤣. We didn't have sex again for a good few months after. Then once we got the hang of it we were at it all the time!

specialk9 · 21/02/2024 11:52

To add, he was also 14.

Disneydatknee88 · 21/02/2024 11:54

I was 17. My son has just turned 15 and has a long term gf (been together 1.5 years). We have talked to him about safe sex, being respectful and not pressuring gf into anything she's not ready for etc. He claims they are not quite there yet but who knows. I wouldn't have told my parents if I was having sex.

Naptrappedmummy · 21/02/2024 11:56

I’m amazed so many parents know the ages their DC lost their virginity. I would rather have died than had such a cringey conversation with my parents!

Leah5678 · 21/02/2024 11:56

15

WarningOfGails · 21/02/2024 11:57

I was 14, the boy was actually 13… I thought I loved him etc. It was early for my peer group, the others were more like 16-18.

DD was 14, crap situation for her. I get the impression from the stories she tells about her peers that it’s a real mixed bag as to what they are up at this age.

Peanut91 · 21/02/2024 11:58

18 for me and 16 for DH

Yeah, not sure my parents have any idea - think they would assume 17-18 when I first had a boyfriend stay over!

I know about my DD because of safeguarding referrals and police involvement.

thaegumathteth · 21/02/2024 11:58
  1. One of my classmates had a baby at 13 and most of the rest of the girls lost their virginity between 14-16 id say. Usually to boys in the year above.
HoHoHoliday · 21/02/2024 11:58

"Virginity" is such an outdated misogynistic concept, I wish we could move past the idea of it and talk about relationships and sexuality with more respect.
You are essentially asking people when was the first time they had a penis in their vagina! What does it matter to you?
The first time for me I was a child, it wasn't consensual, but by definition I "lost my virginity". The first time I had a consensual sexual relationship was with a woman, there was no penetration, by definition I would not have "lost my virginity" this way.
Move past the old fashioned idea of what it means.

Leah5678 · 21/02/2024 11:56

15

Also got pregnant at 15 😳

fatphalange · 21/02/2024 12:03

I've never 'lost anything'. Too much importance is attributed to the first time people have sex. I've seen so much upset, almost always for women over the concept and how it ties in to their identities and self worth. Very sad.

TheTecknician · 21/02/2024 12:06

Still got mine. I'm 53.
