Morning all. Sorry for silence. Hope everyone is better. @petalpower hope so much your aunt is better. And @FrostyFogg 's mum as well and everyone.

Thanks to everyone.

Started my new job on Monday so am getting to grips with that and just aiming to keep on top of the house until I settle into the new routines.

This week I am aiming to sort out the vacation we are taking at easter. Last week I mentioned I had bullied DH into a GP appointment- he had it yesterday and has been referred (thankfully) to a neurologist. It will be done privately so hopefully not too long to wait. I have also started my new job and its a big learning curve. The people seem very nice though which is a massive plus!

Hope everyone has a lovely week and all loved ones are well and better.

RunningKatie · 28/02/2024 11:03

Good luck with your new job @WinterLobelia
Hope your auntie is ok @petalpower

Today's tasks, thanks to a quick glance on the calendar this morning, are to get the house visitor ready. Workman due tomorrow to service alarm so he needs to go around including in the garage. I've given DH 24 hrs notice which may not be enough time to clear safe passage!
DC1 cooking at school today so that's part of dinner already sorted too.

Aria999 · 28/02/2024 20:36

Hi all!

Sorry to hear about auntie @petalpower ☹️ on top of all the rest going on ☹️

Exciting you started new job @WinterLobelia, sounds like a positive beginning!

I am still working 120% but end hopefully in sight after another 6am meeting on Monday. Things are coming together and I am feeling positive about it. Going to have a break after this one finishes (I think I will have met my financial goal for the whole year)

I have ordered a robot vacuum!

SingleThreadJoiner · 28/02/2024 21:33

Exciting times with the new job @WinterLobelia , congratulations!

@petalpower I do hope things are manageable at your end

and 👋to everyone else

I am trying to juggle being a good friend/hostess to my guest and getting through my endless workdays, I have had some pleasing achievements though, yesterday I went out for a couple of hours with said friend and found a dress in TK Maxx for a July wedding with a tricky dress code - really thrilled!!! Today I had two loads of laundry thanks to D waking up with wet bed (she's mostly doing ok with the dry nights but still occasionally gets caught out), and I also did a 10 minute desk tidy blitz while listening in to a pointless meeting. That was very satisfying too!

I need to book some annual leave for the Easter break, and organise a gift card for a relative overseas - if I can get these done by the end of the week, that's good enough for me...

SpiritOfEdna · 29/02/2024 12:53

@SingleThreadJoiner I also do quick tasks while listening in on pointless meetings, particularly when I know I am not going to be asked for an opinion 😄
Today

  • irritating task of setting annual targets, I've borrowed last year's and changed the project titles. Makes me want to be a contractor again, but then I think, HMRC. I've had a three month extension on my FT contract, so here till July
  • Build a flat pack cupboard that has just arrived
  • walk the doggo
  • ironing
  • post office if time after work
That's all for today, have a good day all, SoE
SpringLobelia · 01/03/2024 06:47

Morning all. Seasonal name change [twirl].

Great news on the new dress @SingleThreadJoiner ! I hate tricky dress codes. There was a thread on MN recently where a dress code was Victorian which sounds fun admittedly but I was trying to imagine how I would fulfill that!

Glad you will get a break next week @Aria999 Sounds like you are running on empty.

Hi to everyone and hope everyone is fine!

No news here. This weekend I want to catch up on washing and if it ever stops raining then I have some plants to plant.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2024 07:48

Just waiting for third and last of laundry to finish so I can put it in the dryer. Washed floor and vacuumed earlier. Just generally keeping things going here. 🙅‍♀️
Spring, what are you going to plant? I need to start planning and get on it. Likely just some basics so it is fun for Havoc: cherry tomatoes, strawberries, potatoes, cucumber and zucchini.

SpringLobelia · 01/03/2024 08:06

Hi @Mumtobabyhavoc !!

I have some fox gloves to plant and a hellebore. I am trying to make one corner of the garden a sort of pale purple and lilac coloured corner.

I've not had much success with vegetables but I am keen to try growing what we call patty pan squash. Not sure what it is called in the US- I think sunburst squash? I absolutely love patty pan squash but it can be hard to find where I live. I cook it until medium soft, slice, then mix with olive oil, fresh mint, lemon and top with feta cheese as a side dish. In fact.... I might make that my weekend mission - to find some seeds.

I might try my hand at growing some heirloom tomato varieties as well this year.

I am off work today so hope to get ahead as much as possible so i can spend the weekend relaxing with the DCs. But at the moment I am sitting wasting time watching youtube videos so probably need to activate myself.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2024 13:57

Spring, I think I've seem squash like that and had it as a side in restaurants, but not commonly. Thanks for the recipe idea, though! I'd like to try that. 😋

Just getting back to be after being up the past hour with the dc. Toddler got up while I was nursing baby and isn't asleep yet... thinking about making pancakes in a few hours. 🙅‍♀️

petalpower · 01/03/2024 19:50

Thank you to everyone who has mentioned auntie. Unfortunately she has pneumonia but the upside is that she seems to be responding to antibiotics today. We are keeping fingers crossed for a good recovery. I am visiting hospital everyday so don’t have much time for other things.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2024 21:52

Petal, it's so common in seniors. Glad to know meds are working!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/03/2024 05:26

Cleaned the bathroom and washed the floor after using plunger on sink and tub drains.Sink was draining a bit slow. Lots of guck got forced up through overflow drain when plunging. 🤮
very satisfying to clear it out, though.
got the dishwasher and washing machine going.
never ending laundry!
will have to do bed sheets tomorrow.

SpringLobelia · 02/03/2024 07:40

Best of luck to your aunt @petalpower She's really had a run of it. I hope she continues to improve.

Laundry seems neverending here too. I was going to take a photo of my empty laundry basket as per our esteemed @Peridot1 but by the time I had gone to fetch my phone DH had put his gym crap in it. 🙄😂

petalpower · 03/03/2024 08:40

It’s all a bit quiet on here at the moment! How’s your mum @FrostyFogg ?
Im trying to keep up with jobs in between hospital visits.Today I’m in a concert though so it’s rehearsal this morning, concert this afternoon, then hospital on the way home. This evening I’m just going to flop I think!

RunningKatie · 03/03/2024 12:53

Hope your aunt is on the mend soon @petalpower
This morning dh has taken the dc out for an hour, so I've swept and hoovered and am about to mop too. Was it @Aria999 that got a robot vac? I am really swaying towards getting one too, would love to know how it's shaping up.
Other than that, we had a crazy Saturday so today needs to be quieter.
Hope everyone is ok and enjoying the weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/03/2024 01:34

Katie, hope you had a restful day. 😊
Petal, how was concert? How is your aunt?
You must be worn out today!

Bit of a rainy day here. Didn't go out. Tried to rest and drink lots of water to fight a cold that started last Thursday/Friday.
Decided to tackle kitchen sink drain that was draining slowly. Same as with bathroom sink, I used plunger. Made sure other side of sink had plug in and put a layer of paper towel in drain before plug to prevent guk shooting out when plunging other side. Then poured a good amount of baking soda and very hot water down drain and plunged some more before cleaning sink and repeating on other side. Wiped sink and counter down with vinegar after. Now it's draining well and sparkling! 😀

SingleThreadJoiner · 04/03/2024 10:41

It has been quiet! I've had a busy week with my friend staying (a very easygoing friend to be fair, does washing up and tidies up after my D...) and fun things over the weekend including swimming with the D, and going to a local wildlife park/zoo thingy.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hear you on the neverending laundry....this morning I have, among other things, the sheets from the guest's bed, my own sheets because H kindly changed the bed last night, and bonus sheets & pjs from my D who had an accident last night while coming out of a night terror. The fun really never stops!

@SpiritOfEdna your post reminds me that target-setting-season is almost upon me, too. I hate that form with a passion! So fiddly! So many sections! So pointless!

@petalpower very sorry to hear about the auntie. I'm glad you at least got a bit of distraction with the concert, I hope it was lovely.

I didn't quite manage what I wanted by the end of last week - my dad ended up sorting out the overseas gift card (and got his card blocked in the process 😆) but on Saturday morning I did succeed in sourcing various light bulbs that we needed to replace around the house, and made good progress in organising a work trip for later in the year (which I am very excited about - 4 days solo in Spain!).

Today will be trying to keep on top of the laundry, perhaps making a meal plan (or at least checking expiry dates of various things in fridge!), and pre-cleaner tidy - they are coming tomorrow morning!

Have a good week all! 💐

lucysmam · 04/03/2024 10:56

Good Morning 🌞

I've been reading this thread this morning & have 3 days off work so I'm feeling inspired!

I've cleaned the big bathroom and about to do the small one after swapping towels over in the washing machine, and have cleared two bags of "just in case" things from my pigsty bedroom. Nothing that can't be replaced if ever needed. Also added 3 decent items to my Vinted pile so will list those shortly.

Aiming to be done by midday so I have 4 or so hours to continue adding beads to my Eras Tour jacket, and maybe start something else or try a more difficult bracelet design.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/03/2024 12:36

morning - a fiddly day for me. Trying to sort out flowers for a friend whose mum has died, but dont know when to organise for, if she will be at home when they arrive, do I message her husband to see if anyone will be home, might just walk into the village and then hand deliver. Or stop overthinking and just get it delivered and hope someone will be there. @SingleThreadJoiner targets done, discussed, to be forgotten about until the year ends! 😄Weekend busy - another successful trip to the tip! I blitzed the bathroom yeterday, all floors brushed, hoovered, mopped

Today

  • walk doggo
  • replace cash from raiding savings jar! I snapped my debit card using it to de-ice car screen and replacement arrived today (thankfully!)
  • order a new electric toothbrush - dental check up tomorrow
  • my desk is a mess, no doubt my lost toothbrush is in there somewhere 😄(it's not have looked several times)
  • realised have not had an answer from car dent guys - need to find someone else
That will be it for today, have a good one, SoE
petalpower · 04/03/2024 13:05

Hello all! Up at the hospital visiting at the moment but auntie is very sleepy.
Manage to achieve lots before coming here:

  • load of washing drying on the line
  • write Mother’s Day cards
  • parcelled up MIL present and card as it’s her birthday this weekend. We were supposed to be visiting but I now need to stay here with auntie.
  • organised a return of some shoes for DS which don't fit. Taking them back to Matalan on the way back from hospital
  • caught up with boring household chores
I will take all of that as a win for today even if nothing else gets done!
RunningKatie · 04/03/2024 19:23

Office day today so not much done otherwise. I got a lot of cleaning/tidying done yesterday which was very pleasing.
Today I've booked parents eve, and need to walk ddog, iron school tops and make packed lunches for tomorrow.
Also need to food shop, dh has gone to bed as he's done too much but I can't pick up everything.

Aria999 · 05/03/2024 02:13

@SpiritOfEdna try bloom And wild, they do flowers in a box that can fit through a letterbox

Aria999 · 05/03/2024 02:14

@RunningKatie re robot vac I have ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet. I will
Update when I have used it!

Aria999 · 05/03/2024 02:46

Yikes. Today was a work day other than nap to recover from 6am meeting.

This week more of same. Then we are away for a week.

SpringLobelia · 05/03/2024 06:38

Office day for me as well. The temp part time job is going quite well and they have asked me to be full time and permanent. But I simply can't with DS1s needs. But it is flattering of course.

Home today so I need to crack on with life admin. DH has dropped the ball on something significant for reasons unknown so i need to try and sort that out today. He's not really himself at the moment and is supposed to be having a neurology appointment soon.

Hope everyone is well. Thanks
