Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I need to go online more often to sort things. I see faults and become sort of paralysed or try and ignore it. Although, following your lead, I did use a kebab skewer to clean out a little hole in the washing machine! 😂

I did not achieve much yesterday but I did sort out next weeks clothes by washing them, ironing them and hanging them up in order

Today;

  • swimming with Dcs
  • Buying new school shoes for DCs
  • Normal household stuff
  • Hope to get into the garden
  • start researching what we can do about our 'conservatory'. It was a bodge job put up in the 80s and needs a serious overhaul.
  • Book tip run for Tuesday and sort stuff for same
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/02/2024 06:19

Oooh can I join in? 👋
I started the year with a list of ‘very little jobs’ that I was going to do, because I was just feeling so overwhelmed with everything, and every weekend I pick a couple that I’m going to focus on. I have actually managed a lot- I’ve cleared my loft by taking one bag a week to charity or the tip, I’ve cleared my kitchen and invested in a sideboard for storage etc.
last weekend I sorted photographs and ordered any Christmas and birthday ones that were missing over the years, they have arrived this week so this weekend I’m putting those into albums. And I’ve got some hemming tape to turn up some curtains, that have been up for a year and are 2 inches too long.
of course, my list of little jobs gets longer and longer, but it helps me focus and not wait until I have time free to actually do things. Everything on the list is a 30 minute job or less, some only minutes, so I squeeze them in.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2024 07:12

Well done, Winter! I applaud your use of the skewer! 👏

WinterLobelia · 24/02/2024 08:30

A very useful device @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I saw the washing machine was a bit gunked up with hardened powder so cleared it all out and ran some of the bits through the dishwasher so it's sparkly and like new now.

Welcome @thenewaveragebear1983 ! We love new joiners. Smile I like the sound of clearing the loft by one bag a week! I have just added to my list that I want to declutter one particular room (dumping ground) by 15 minutes a day and just continue until it is finished. There will undoubtedly be a number of tip and charity shop visits! It's a room that has been depressing me a bit. But I will put on a podcast or youtube video and just settle to it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/02/2024 09:02

@WinterLobelia I had no excuse really as I work at the head office of a charity, I would do my bag on Sunday and take it into work on my office day. I got into a bit of a rhythm! Now I’m cleared to the point of everything left is a potential keeper, I just need to drag all the boxes down, try everything on, and organise what I’m keeping.

petalpower · 24/02/2024 15:00

Welcome @thenewaveragebear1983 ! That’s handy that you work at a charity. I’ve got a friend who works at a charity shop which is immensely helpful at times. She’s quite happy to relieve me of bags of donations when I see her.
I’ve been reading whilst being away but haven’t had time to post. My dad is now out of hospital and is starting to settle back at home. I’ve been there for most of the week but have just returned home. It’s just been DH and Petaldog here but the amount of filth created in my absence is quite remarkable!

FrostyFogg · 24/02/2024 17:08

Hello everyone. I've been mia due to mum again. She's been admitted with a uti this time.
Greetings and welcome @thenewaveragebear1983 👋

Tired tired tired! Also, slightly sweaty mess due to utilising my step exercise thing for the first time. It's quite fun, and it's raining.

Today: watered plants and tidied up bottom of wardrobe.

Best wishes to all, and you made me laugh @Mumtobabyhavoc

Petal, glad your dad is home. I hope he and your step mum will manage ok. It's such a worey, isn't it? 🩷

I got two loads laundry done last night before bed. Also some general tidying up. I find I can get a lot done at night!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/02/2024 17:17

🐸 Froggy, for further amusement: I locked toddler in car at gas station yesterday. 🤦‍♀️
(Two helpful guys on a break from work, two police cars, a fire truck with sirens and a tow truck whose driver got my car open.)

Your poor mum. Is she doing ok?

That happened to one of my friends when she came to visit @Mumtobabyhavoc We ended up calling a locksmith. It's awful isn't it? Hope you and Havoc aren't too shook up!

Mum is ok and on IV antibiotics so I assume will be in for at least a couple of days. She's not impressed, but unfortunately is her own worst enemy as she won't drink enough, despite warnings of the consequences.

@petalpower I'm thinking of you and yours 💕

The sun has come out here 🎉 The garden is sodden but I'm hoping to make it out on to the paved bits and do a bit of tidying this morning.

We have a combi-boiler in the kitchen and I think it's about time I cleaned the dust and dead spiders off them top. Can't see it but I know it's there!

I might tackle a larder shelf too!

Legs are ok after doing the stepper, so if I get the house to myself I plan to find a YouTube class and do it properly. DH will laugh at me, the git 😎

Happy Sunday everybody 💐

Morning. Hope so much your mum is okay @FrostyFogg and that @petalpower 's dad is also okay. Thanks

Hope you and havoc are also okay @Mumtobabyhavoc . An adventure you did not need. Once when DS1 was teeny I stupidly gave him the car keys to hold and keep amused while I shut his door and went to open mine. He immediately locked it. Cue me trying to break open the boot window with a hammer kindly loaned by a passerby. Not helped by a disapproving bystander with pursed lips saying' He's getting distressed. He's distressed'. He wasn't. He unclipped himself from his car seat, took his nappy off and pooped on the seat and was busily opening all the cds and tossing the discs around while giggling merrily. It is seared on my brain. [shudder]

Talking of the Pooping One I am hoping to persuade him that going out for a nice afternoon tea followed by walk is a Very Good Idea. I'm a bit bored and really feel like it!

Hope everyone has a good day. x

FrostyFogg · 25/02/2024 11:41

Thank you @petalpower I will order some. Really helpful 💐

Morning @WinterLobelia that does sound like a brain searing experience! Hope you get out ok this afternoon!

RunningKatie · 25/02/2024 20:10

Oh my gosh, the car locking antics fill me with horror but then giggles when reading about the pooping one!
We've been to visit my mum today, dh was kept busy with a massive list of jobs. Very frustrating, as she's really not incompetent and lives beside a huge B&Q, plus she can be quite mean about him when he's not there.
Otherwise a quiet weekend, dc1 got injured in a school PE lesson so is taking it even easier than normal. Definitely could give a sloth a run for their money at the moment.
I'm already counting down to my next day off, 2 weeks if anyone needs to know - just a half day, for taking dc1 to an appointment but I should get at least an hour to myself.
Glad to hear your dad is home @petalpower, hope that he's doing ok.
Fingers crossed your mum is on the mend soon @FrostyFogg

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/02/2024 22:48

Oh, Winter - that's one for MN Classics! Did you have to break the window? And how did a random person have a hammer? 😂😂😂

Luckily, Havoc was a bit amused. I walked around car playing peekaboo. The whole incident was about 30 mins.

TawnyT · 26/02/2024 09:02

Morning all, I think it's been a week since I checked in, tried to catch up on posts- sorry to your mum is on hospital @FrostyFogg hope she's doing better now.

The car locking stories 🙈😂

And welcome @thenewaveragebear1983 !

We had a new kitchen floor fitted over 2 days last week so life was turned upside down for a bit. Then the little one got poorly, then I got poorly, then my parents came to visit while we were all still full of cold so we've been trying to entertain while not really up to it.

I've called in sick at work today and have little one home from nursery so we're just going to have a chill day and concentrate on feeling better.

FrostyFogg · 26/02/2024 09:05

Mum's looking and feeling a lot better, thank you. She's desperate to get home and it'll probably be later today 🤞 I am on standby to pick her up anyway. I am going to her house this morning to make sure all is well, and will take the opportunity to change her sheets and stock her fridge. Probably ought to clean out the car too, and I will run it through the car wash.
@RunningKatie I hear your parent/in-law frustrations and sympathise 💐 I hope you can claw a bit of time for yourself before two weeks time as well!

Hello everyone, I'm back after our half term week away (pretty glorious I have to say), so much to catch up on I'm not even going to try...but I do hope all poorly people and parents are better as soon as possible, and welcome to our new joiners!

We got back late Friday night, the weekend included a birthday party, unpacking, I think six loads of laundry (including last minute panic school uniform!), getting the house vaguely presentable for a visitor yesterday afternoon + a guest who is staying over from today for the week, meal planning to consider said guest + going to the supermarket...in short, back with a bang!!

Tons of work to catch up on as well - I think this will be another week of very basic house maintenance only....

petalpower · 26/02/2024 13:17

Glad your mum is in the mend @FrostyFogg . Well done everyone else for all your achievements. I’m glad my children are now grown up and too old to lock themselves in cars!
Well, yesterday was supposed to be a getting back on top of things day after my trip away to look after my dad. However fate had something else in store as at lunchtime I had a call from auntie’s care home to say they’d just phoned for an ambulance for her. I spent the rest of the day in hospital with her and got home at midnight. Poor thing has broken her hip and cracked her pelvis.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/02/2024 13:59

Oh, no Petal that's awful news about your auntie. I imagine she'll be in hospital for a while? You must be exhausted being stretched in all directions. Please remember to look after yourself, too, especially sleep. 🩷

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/02/2024 14:03

Frosty, hope yur mum comfortably at home and that you are abke to get some rest. 🩷
Tawny, sorry you're all sick in your house. Bad timing on visit from parents, though. Hope you're all feeling better soon. 🩷

SpiritOfEdna · 27/02/2024 13:06

hello! Ive managed to lose a post today 🙁not sure what happened there. Yesterday was mad busy today less so. The weekend saw the long awaited trip to the tip and everything that is in decent enough nick has gone into the charity bags to be picked up tomorrow. Today's minutae tasks:

  • find three lost screws!!!! how they have got lost when they were all in the same drawer....
  • sew a button on a shirt so it can go in the charity bag for tomorrow
  • get my stuff ready for exercise class tonight otherwise I wont go at all if I get all settled
  • I got the roof on my car fixed last Friday, this week it is a chip out of the windowscreen being sorted, now waiting for a dent man to come back with a quote to sort out two little dings over both rear wheels. The car will soon be summer ready, it just then needs a thorough valeting - it's full of mud because, well, wet dog!
Flowers to everyone dealing with poorly relatives. That's all for me today, have a good one, SoE.
TawnyT · 27/02/2024 13:19

Afternoon all!

DD is much better today amd I'm back at work (though still a little run down)

Today I need to sweep the kitchen, and do a 5 min blitz on all rooms to try and get a handle on the chaos that has ensued while me and DD were off yesterday (the amount of mess a poorly toddler can make! 🤪)

@SpiritOfEdna that serves as a reminder for me re car valeting! Must also get ours done this week. Wet dog and toddler crumbs for us (I may have allowed her to eat a pasty in the car last week 😬)

@petalpower how awful for your aunt and you, wishing her a speedy recovery 💐
