Washed the rest of the floors and did a rather large load of laundry today. Popped out to Costco before closing and have put away groceries. Bought new frying pans, so will cull my cupboard tomorrow. Also bought a scale. First time ever having one. Have only ever weighed myself at the gym or doctor's office. It was only $20...such is the lure of Costco. 🤷‍♀️

WinterLobelia · 17/02/2024 06:45

Morning all.

@FrostyFogg I hope you are feeling better today with your cold.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I would dearly love a thorough cull of various pans. DH is someone who gets very anxious about throwing things so I have to chuck by stealth.

Not much news Chez Lobelia. I for the first time consciously tried out our esteemed @FrostyFogg 's While The Kettle Boils™ task. Managed to unload the dishwasher. I also got cat medicine down the cat by mashing it into raw chicken mince. That is a trick that will succeed precisely once I think.

DH is taking the Dcs swimming. I have a margarita coffee date with a friend this afternoon. I still need to sort banking files. I don't know why I procrastinate on such simple things.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

RunningKatie · 17/02/2024 09:08

Morning all!
We're off on a family day out, and I've already cleared my card purse out of loyalty cards for places we don't go to any more! Probably even don't exist sadly.
I have a massive ironing pile to conquer so am hoping to ship dh and the dc out for a few hours tomorrow whilst I tackle it.

WinterLobelia · 17/02/2024 09:42

DS1 got a 25 metres swimming badge!!! He swam the whole length of the pool!!!!

He has dyspraxia and could not swim a single stroke on his own (with his feet off the bottom) until July 2023 when we went to Cyprus!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited!! (And missed it because I am home MNetting while DH took him!). But that is okay. He wanted to push a bit because dad was there watching. Smile

yay!!!

Ice cream cafe visit today to celebrate i think!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/02/2024 12:43

Winter, big congrats to your DS for the swimming! What an awesome achievement!! 🥳 Definitely something to celebrate!
Frosty, just realized your user name is FrostyFogg and not FrostyFrogg. 🐸

Another broken dish last night, so after picking it up and vacuuming needed to take out garbage. So, did that and ended up sorting the pans: 5 taken away, 3 new. Net cull: 2. 😁

Winter: just remembered something from previous posts...were you the one posting about curtains you wanted to get rid of, but dh was opposed? 🤔

FrostyFrogg · 17/02/2024 15:30

I think my new user name is pretty cool 😎 Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc #twirls 😂

Happy Saturday everyone and welcome @Woman2023 👋

I had to put my cold on hold as mum fell over and we ended up with a pretty long stint in A&E (it does not match with @petalpower's 40 hours but nevertheless I agree that the chairs are very hard! I was feeling a bit guilty at taking my cold germs to the hospital, until I fiund myself in a room full of people coughing and sneezing. Mother was discharged after 15 hours but is now requiring extra attention of course. The cold swung back in with a vengeance this morning but I will live.

Congratulations to DS1, @WinterLobelia I hope you all enjoy the ice cream!

My home has been sadly neglected for several days. DH has been heroic and has held the place together around working. We have binged watched telly in the evenings instead of doing anything productive. Just sat in crumpled heaps with dinner on our laps. My mother would be horrified if she knew 😂

I think I said something about looking forward to a less fraught week when I posted last weekend. That was foolish! This time I just hope for one....

The only thing currently in my diary for next week is the tumble dryer being fixed on Monday as the heating element has packed up. A great excuse to be slack about laundry too!

Today: clear the decks in kitchen so I can cook tonight.

Sweep kitchen floor

Might hoover/probably won't.

My turn to assist mum with her evening meal and get ready for bed. She won't let anyone help with her medication which is worrying but she's fierce about it. She says if it doesn't involve bending down she will do it, whatever it is!

The younguns all look and sound ok so currently not feeling sandwiched though (hope I don't regret that statement!)

Best wishes to all 💕

Woman2023 · 17/02/2024 15:36

Sounds like everyone's pretty busy. Thanks for being welcoming!

Today I faced the garage, we've got rid of a few things on freecycle that i finally accepted were never going to be used by me. Then took some rubbish to the dump. Progress!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/02/2024 16:56

@FrostyFrogg 🐸 Thanks for the giggle. 😃
Nursing baby and going back to bed...🥱🥱🥱

petalpower · 17/02/2024 21:26

Oh no @FrostyFrogg . Sorry to hear about your A and E experience. Hope your mum is doing ok. Also hope everyone else is having a good weekend and welcome to @Woman2023 .
My dad is still in hospital and we are waiting for a care package so he can be discharged. All a bit stressful and complicated with our stepfamily dynamic. I will be going back to help out next week after DD sets off on her backpacking travel adventure.

FrostyFogg · 18/02/2024 08:57

Well done @Woman2023! In my experience clutter does tend to creep to all available spaces. Fortunately we don't have a garage!

I am trying so hard not to bring anything new into the house but sooner or later we will need a new sofa as it was second hand when we got it, and the springs are going have gone at one end.

Such stressful times @petalpower I really feel for you. Do you go on the Elderly Parents board? I have found that very useful to lurk on.

Hoping our @peridot1 is safely down under, and isn't too jetlagged.

@RunningKatie hope you get to ship the family off for a bit. Dh has gone to see his sister today so I am here alone. I have showered, dressed to my shoes and I am on it around* *the house.

👋 to everyone else and I hope all is well with you all 💕

Woman2023 · 18/02/2024 09:45

My house is a bad combination of the result of downsizing, partner moving in, me being something of a hoarder and general life stresses meaning lots to sort out.

Trying yet again for little regular progress.

@petalpower I hope the care plan goes smoothly, it's incredibly stressful supporting elderly parents.

FrostyFogg · 18/02/2024 11:29

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself. We were overdue for a reset and i didn't really know where to start, so i did the 15 min timer crisis clean as per flylady.
So far I've done 15 mins in the kitchen, the lounge and the dining room/office. A load of washing is on the airer in the lounge. I had a 15 min break then did another 15 in the dining room. That's the hardest one as it's mainly DH's clutter in there, so I've cleaned around it, and am in the process of moving other stuff elsewhere. The kitchen and lounge are clean and tidy now, including skirting boards (I know!! 💪)
I really must do 15 min in bedroom and also change the sheets, which have been on longer than usual due to lack of tumble dryer.

Bathroom's already pretty good as I swish and swipe daily 😇

Tomorrow I need to declutter/reorganise the kitchen as it's not very big and we recently acquired an air fryer. I really, really like clear worktops with only the kettle and microwave out permanently, but stuff has crept in.

Feeling smug but a little weary. So much for one extra project a day! But I will get back to steady routines once it's done, hopefully this week. And, I may even get that cheque banked!

TawnyT · 18/02/2024 14:00

Hello all! Hope everyone is having a productive weekend.

We were out all day at a kids birthday party yesterday so not much was done. Today I've done the kitchen, a food shop, got a curry in the slow cooker for later, and walked doggo. Now on route to a nice country pub for a Sunday afternoon pint.

RunningKatie · 18/02/2024 19:59

I did indeed ship everyone out to the cinema @FrostyFogg - and I had a typically ambitious plan.
I ironed for hours, also did a spring clean in our bedroom so that dh could help me shift furniture round.
And dinner was ready when they got in, so quite pleased. Plus I managed to delete 16 hrs of tv from the box I'll never watch and watch 1.5 Endeavour's from last year whilst ironing there was ridiculous amounts

Aria999 · 19/02/2024 00:50

Congrats to DS1 @WinterLobelia !

Sorry to hear about your mum and the cold @FrostyFogg , vegging out in the sofa is clearly the appropriate response.

Sounds like an effective day @RunningKatie !

Hello and welcome @Woman2023

Congrats on your scale purchase @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I am a weigh every day type... though my weight is very stable if I avoid bread and sugar.

@petalpower hope they can sort out a care package soon. Stressful times.

@everyone else 🙋‍♀️

Aria999 · 19/02/2024 00:53

Today I have spent hours trying to get DS1 room tidy. He won't help. It's almost like he can't. He was quite apologetic about it. Am exhausted.

However we have gone from a mountain of stuff in the middle of the room with narrow paths from door to bed and door to bathroom, to a mostly clear floor that could do with another half hour's work and a vacuum.

And I am Drinking A Glass Of Wine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/02/2024 04:25

Lots of productive things happening here!
Scale is still in the box... need to determine where to keep it as I fear Havoc carrying it off if left in bathroom.
No chores today, but will need to do laundry tomorrow. Things are fairly tidy, but much lurks beneath... storage closet is a disaster. Cannot locate new laptop bought last spring. I know it's in aforementioned closet. In a bin. Likely behind many other bins and precariously stacked odds and sods. 😟
Also need another cull of Havoc's clothes dresser. And then a shop for some new clothes. Growth spurt has happened. 🤦‍♀️(I feel like i just did a big shop, too. Time flies. Kids grow. 🤷‍♀️)

Sorry to hear about ailing parents. I have similar situation. It's hard. Solidarity. 🩷

petalpower · 19/02/2024 09:02

I’ve had a quick look on the elderly parents boards @FrostyFogg. I sometimes find it supportive but also sad about what I fear is to come too. Hospital have now decided that my dad is too well to need a care package provided by them and it’s down to us as a family to arrange it. I think dad will go home today. I seem to be doing very little in the way of daily projecteering at the moment and am just preparing for DD to go off on her travels today and me to dad and stepmother’s tomorrow.
Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/02/2024 14:20

@WinterLobelia well done on DS's swimming badge - hope the ice cream went down a treat @petalpower words fail me on your dad being too well to need a care package. What a difficult position to be in.

Well my desk is back upstairs but am surrounded by piles of filing, books that need a quick sort out into recycling/community bookcase. All the art/craft things being kept need to go back into their chest and I've managed to waylay the cleaning stuff I've brought upstairs to clean everything - and breathe.... it helps I have a clear diary this afternoon (Happy President's Day to me!) so I can work, put stuff into more piles and then work again....

  • the art stuff I am keeping needs to go back into the art chest
  • need to measure some picture frames to get replacement acrylic for the insides so they can be used
  • I have lost the charger for my watch - so need to find that
  • Did not get the tip at the weekend, but there is a growing pile of things that needs to go.
  • SpiritDoggo needs to be walked again today
Thats all for today, have a good one, SoE
FrostyFogg · 19/02/2024 14:58

Solidarity and love to all! It's a fly by fruiting today, tis a busy one.

Have got some bits into loft
Have picked up banking envelope from post office ( all our local banks have closed) Well were not Nationwide, are we??? (Who else loves that tv ad? 😂) My cheque banking exercise is a two-parter.

Bit of shopping for mum ✅
Swept and mopped kitchen floor
15 mins in spare room.
Cleaned car.

I have done some things that will stay done, and daily routines are back in place.

I do need to start incorporating garden things into my projecting but first I must get to a dentist appointment.

I know I go on about Flylady a lot but its only because she saved my sanity. So I will leave this here as I hope you might find it useful. Sadly my youngest was already late teens by the time I found her. No worries if it's not your thing though x

@FrostyFogg thanks I will read it!

WinterLobelia · 19/02/2024 15:59

I will also. I am trying to get the Dcs to take a bit more responsibility!

petalpower · 19/02/2024 16:20

@WinterLobelia forgot to say fabulous news about the swimming badge. You must be very proud!

WinterLobelia · 19/02/2024 16:23

Thanks everyone!! Smile I am extremely proud!! Apparently DH decided to do a lap himself (from shallow to deep end!!) and set off and then turned around and saw DS swimming after him like a little duckling!

Words fail me too @petalpower about how your poor Dad is being treated. I hope so much it is sorted out properly and you and your Stepmum are okay. Thanks
