Just to explain if needed- DH was swimming as well because its a class for kids with disabilities and they require a parent / carer in the class with each child. I really dislike going because the pool is cold and i have to reveal myself in a swimsuit. [shudder]

petalpower · 19/02/2024 16:31

Dad is still in hospital on IV antibiotics. The hospital don’t know whether it’s the infection that hasn’t cleared or a new one. I’ve spoken to him today and he sounds much stronger and less confused which is good. I haven’t achieved much today apart from spending time with DD and waving her off her travels.

WinterLobelia · 19/02/2024 16:34

Aaah @petalpower glad your dad is still in hospital and sounds better. ❤

I hope your DD has the most wonderful time away!

petalpower · 19/02/2024 16:38

Thank you @WinterLobelia! And I hadn’t had a second thought about your husband also being in the pool. It sounds extra special that your son has been such a superstar if he has additional needs. What a clever chap!

WinterLobelia · 19/02/2024 16:43

I just always feel a bit self conscious when there are 2-3 swimming groups with parents on the side sitting all comfy and warn with their cups of tea and then us in the pool with the Dcs! There is no proper reason for feeling that though! (Other than i hate traipsing around half naked!). I do wish i had seen the swim though. Next week hopefully!

Mind you, it is rather lovely to have that time with DS. I usually get a noodle and flippety flop around with him.

TawnyT · 20/02/2024 09:12

Morning all!

@petalpower its good that your dad seems to be doing better, hope it continues 💐

@WinterLobelia you sound super proud! Great achievement for him by the sound of it. I do hate getting into a cold pool at this time of year. Your posts have reminded me I must get swimming lessons sorted for DD again, we did them weekly for a bit but then my shifts changed at work and I've just lapsed in sorting out a different session..

Also slightly related interesting fact that DP shared with me recently - only 40% of the world can swim. I was initially surprised but actually there are huge underdeveloped parts of the world where there's just no access to learn to swim... so your DS can swim further than 60% of the world!

So for today..

  • Find swim lessons for DD
  • Do a 3k run (stupidly signed up to do a 5k fun run at the weekend and have done zero running in preparation, so I'm hopeing a slow 3k today will at least make the weekend less of a shock to the system 🙈)
  • sweep kitchen floor

Have a good day all!

RunningKatie · 20/02/2024 11:08

Hope your dd has a great trip @petalpower and that your dad is improving.

I've had PT today, and my trainer is leaving the gym quite abruptly at the end of the week. So I've got another paid-for session to fit in by Fri eve with them, and then I need to think about what to do next. I'm well aware I'm not going enough to make a difference to my middle-aged mum physique, but there's a big emphasis on squats and lunges which is making my knee really play up. This would probably ease if I lost weight, so essentially I need to prioritise my health more.

In the meantime, the house is still a bit chaotic from my rearranging of furniture on Sunday so things need to be put away. I'm wfh today so every time I move I try and take one thing from room to room!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/02/2024 19:55

Katie, It's such a bummer when people in our peripheral lives move on. I've had three trainers, that were awesome btw, (and utterly gorgeous men), leave me. 😂😂😂
How can I possibly be motivated to show up to work out without them? 😂😂😂

cleaned the bathroom and sliding glass door to deck yesterday. Also managed a load of laundry.
raining here today, but putting on rain gear and taking Havoc out in a bit.

WinterLobelia · 21/02/2024 08:33

Morning all. Hope everyone is fine and well.

I am doing the pre-cleaner clean today. It's tipping down with rain so no garden project for me. I am having an attack of raging apathy though.

have good days all!

FrostyFogg · 21/02/2024 15:16

The cheque has been banked!!

I have got back to steadily keeping house fit for company, if not spotless. Never spotless but comfortably lived in is my goal. I'm tempted to get a chandelier to go in the loo, just to keep up with our Lobelia 😊

We have separate loo and bathroom, and i would like to look into getting a tiny washbasin in the loo. Apparently new houses have to have them now. It probably is disgusting and unhygienic but we've lived here 25 year ish and we've been pretty robustly healthy through most of it. I do try to remember to wipe handles and switches daily but you know how it is.... It would be nice though.

Also contemplating new carpet in the dining room. It's coped with small children, aged pets and now DH in his black crocs which have stained it a bit (it's beigy) Looks awful quite frankly, despite my best efforts. I could wait for ancient cat to shuffle off, but I'm hoping DH will be around awhile, and I'm not sure i can put up with it for much longer.

Walked DD's dogs today in the rain. Lovely dogs, lovely walk but they were a great reminder of why we won't have dogs again. The mud and damp and general grot get everywhere! We had a huge kitchen, an aga and a huge utility room with underfloor heating when I was a child. That is how my mum coped with 5 dogs and 2 cats I guess! She also worked her socks off, I realise now 💕 I am not made from the same stuff!

Today I have:

Done a load of laundry at home. ✅
Done mum's laundry ✅
Project style smug soup ✅
Cleaned a fridge shelf ✅

Now to attack a sideboard that's in the dining room ( I dislike it but it was DH's mum's, so I politely tolerate it) When i say attack, I mean attack the dust and some of it's contents 😂

Best wishes to you all 💐

lol, raging apathy. I have just emptied my wardrobe, and put everything back in. Except the piles of stuff I don't know what I want to do with. I am determined not to just shove them back onto the shelves on the other side of the wardrobe. Still no sign of my watch charger😄
Today:

  • finish wardrobe tidying, have put some stuff to one side that will go in a charity bag.
  • go to the gym - start W4 of C25K
  • the sun is shining - I can see dust everywhere!
  • I've brushed all the floors, need to do a quick mop of the muddy paw prints in the kitchen
  • in between typing my list I've rescued something from the 'To Go' pile 😄
  • Am going to tackle all the CDs next. Books are finally done.
One more meeting and I am free for the day, SoE.
WinterLobelia · 21/02/2024 17:18

Yay to the cheque!! I am still procrastinating on various things like that but have decided tomorrow I will dedicate an hour to life admin. Today though I spent about 20 minutes sorting out my banking and tax folders and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Every downstairs loo needs a chandelier - gavel. I'll post a pic later when I get home.

You have loads of projects planned @FrostyFogg !

Hope the meeting went well- and quickly @SpiritOfEdna !

I have done the pre-cleaner tidy. I have managed to bully DH into a GP appointment- he has had some very worrying problems lately and is strongly resistant. So that is a big win.

Aria999 · 21/02/2024 20:18

I dunno @RunningKatie I have bmi of 22.7 and am fairly fit, and lunges in particular kill my knees also.... I think it's an aging knees thing (am 46, can't remember if you are similar though)

Aria999 · 21/02/2024 20:22

lol @FrostyFogg I had visions of you going at the sideboard with an axe. Congrats re cheque! I can do them through photos and online banking otherwise never would...

Aria999 · 21/02/2024 20:23

Hope DH is ok @WinterLobelia

It's a tempting thought, so perhaps it was a Freudian slip 😄I have banked cheques on my phone app too, but this time it wouldn't accept the picture so I gave up!

@SpiritOfEdna that pile of excess after a clear up is so frustrating, isn't it? We have one of those in the spare room. I'd get rid if it without batting an eye, but DH is less ruthless.

@Aria999 and @RunningKatie I do often doubt how squats are good for anybody's knees! Am a very lazy keep fitter myself - if it hurts, I try not to do it 😎 But I don't want to be one of those old ladies who can't run, so make sure i do a bit of that every day - just to the car or up the stairs 🏃 And volunteering with the horses could be the end of my back and knees what with pushing barrowloads of manure through mud keeps me fit (ish!)

@TawnyT glad you got your stuff posted and good luck with finding swim class for DD. Mine didn't enjoy classes much so DH and I would take 3 between us and just mess about in the water. They did weekly lessons at school one term in three. We still swim together now including in the sea, so I'm glad they did.

@WinterLobelia I hope you get to see your DC swim soon. There's no stopping them now 💕 Would love to see a chandelier pic! Good luck with your admin today and well done for getting DH to get a GP appointment. Hope it's nothing sinister.

👋 to everyone else. Hope you are all fine and well 💐

Today I have aired out the house, and there is very little washing to do, so i have run a maintenance wash.
I have some more windows to clean.
I will delete some emails and get rid of many photos that are on my phone.
Today is the day that I will order some prints!

OP posts:
SpiritOfEdna · 22/02/2024 15:32

Today;

  • a charity bag for clothes, household items, cds came through the door today in a timely manner as things were being put back into the wardrobe - and it's for a local children's hospice so hopefully they will get some benefit from the stuff we have put in. So that is being filled up
  • Doggo needs a walk and then need to do a quick food shop post walk will also drop off some books for the community bookcase
  • need to go post office - maybe Saturday's job - I have put some gold/silver jewelry in one of those 'cash for gold' envelopes. None of it has sentimental value.
  • need to find a recycling bag to send off ink cartridges
  • payday tomorrow - need to do some finance admin this afternoon (no more buying of stuff though 😄)
That's all for now, SoE
RunningKatie · 22/02/2024 16:54

Aging knees quite possible @Aria999 - I'm edging closer to 50 by the day!
Final PT this morning, we did upper body, so now my legs aren't aching but my arms are. Still not sure what I'll do, the PT is around till next week so would be awkward to ask reception just yet.
Apart from that, I've got a few hours to sort stuff. Not sure what particular stuff needs my attention most, I might put some washing on whilst I have a think. Then maybe make a mug of tea, then discuss the new free stuff in Minecraft with the dc etc... before I know it then all the time will be gone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 18:13

🐸good start to the day.
SoE, was that charity bag arranged, or random?
Your posts are always so impressive. 🤗

Not much sleep for me, but am resisting going back to bed. Got a load of laundry in after brushing Havoc's teeth, washing face, helping on toilet and then diaper. (Doing toilet 1-2x p/day!). Gave breakfast of blackberries, strawberries, pear, slice of cheese and a bit of bagel with PB and milk. Happy all has been eaten!
Made a walnut, choc chip banana bread and should be out of oven in about 15 mins if anyone wants to pop by. 😃
Have changed baby's diaper and did a bit of a wash up then fed. Now sleeping on my lap. 😇
Have got cartoons on tv for Havoc (Paddington) and I'm MNing, sipping a latte and nibbling on berries and pear. Waiting for banana bread then will make another latte, hang laundry, put in another load and figure out where to take Havoc today. Public schools are off this week so don't want to go anywhere super busy. Maybe just play in the rain. ☔️

Oh, just remembered Havoc needs new clothes...
must do another cull of Havoc's clothes. Has had growth spurt.
So: go put gas in car and take Havoc shopping. Noticed was down to 1/8 when I went out for groceries last night... 😬

Aria999 · 22/02/2024 19:04

Aren't you saving havoc's clothes for new baby @Mumtobabyhavoc ?

I have a boy and then a girl but still got quite a lot of use out of about half of it second time around (trouser, pajamas, quite a lot of the t shirts)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 19:31

Aria, yes, a lot of things. Some things I need new, but not much. Toddler Havoc needs new clothes, not baby.

Have now cleaned bathtub and sink; and stripped a bed and sheets in the wash. Changed diapers for both dc, snack of 1/2 banana and a couple cubes banana bread for toddler. Baby on boob. 😂 Have got another latte and banana bread for myself and watching tv.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 20:33

Have now vacuumed floor and couch. Wiped bathroom wall and door frame and under sink (pipes/hoses), floor and baseboards. On a roll! 😁

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/02/2024 21:35

Just figured out how to remove filter from wand vacuum! 🤓Didn't even know there was one. 🤷‍♀️
Noticed suction was quite decreased (thought that for a while) and went online to read about product. Customer review criticized cost of replacement filter ($28 with tax and shipping) and since I paid $80 for the unit it is a bit of a gouge. Anyway, removed filter, saw it was absolutely packed with debris, cleaned it using a special tool (dinner fork to scrape it out) and voila!
Take THAT greedy corporation!
Need to wash filter in other vacuum next. Haven't done that for months...
