Hugs and support from me, too Petal. That does sound like a lot.

Katie, ahhh, yes, the longevity test. I know about this. Previously used it when coaching. Had forgotten, though. I should get back to this one myself.

Posting twice in one day just to say, I've gone through 45+ primary school work books today, and recycled the lot. Kept only the special stuff, so it's down to an art book and 2 scrap books per dc.
I might make myself a badge to celebrate this achievement.

👏 Not easy. Good for you!

Midlifeshenanigans · 11/08/2024 20:47

Can I join please? Feeling completely overwhelmed with the state of my house, lack of fitness and general life admin. I am a great list writer but not a great doer. I think it would be really helpful if I could just try and do one or two things a day so I can feel some progress is being made.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2024 02:06

Hi, Midlife. I know that feeling! My place is usually tidy and clean, but I'm hiding a lot in a horror bedroom and storage closet. 🫣

SummerLobelia · 12/08/2024 07:26

Morning all and a very hearty welcome to @Midlifeshenanigans !!

So sorry to hear things are stressful @petalpower Thanks

Thanks @Peridot1 . My slump is lasting longer than I like but I woke up this morning with the idea of hiring another skip while DH is away for work (He of the anti-skip-hiring prejudices) and that cheered me up in itself.

Hi and waves to everyone.

I did not do my balcony plants yesterday.

Today I have to spend some time sitting in a cafe while DS1 is at an activity so I am taking my laptop and hope to get stuck into alot of the life admin I have been avoiding. Life admin overwhelms me but hopefully with a large sugary milky chocolatey drink or two it will seem more palatable.

Hugs to everyone. Thanks

sortmyselfoutagain · 12/08/2024 09:25

That sounds tough @petalpower hope you’re taking some time out to look after yourself.
I don’t think I’ve ever been able to get up from the floor without using my hands @RunningKatie good for you making that a goal.
Hello @Midlifeshenanigans I’m the exact same, great at coming up with a plan, terrible at actually executing it.
Enjoy your time at the cafe @SummerLobelia I always find a change of scenery motivates me to get things done.

Yesterday ended up being a very productive day and I managed to get lots done (including starting the process to open the bank account!) but today is the complete opposite and I have lost all motivation to do anything. This is a cycle I seem to go through all the time where I am all in go go go or I just want to lie on the couch for the rest of my life, there never seems to be a nice happy medium. Usually I feel bad on my unproductive days and have quite a bit of the negative self talk going on but I’m not going to do that today. I've spent the morning sitting out in my little shed in the garden surrounded by candles and fairy lights listening to the rain and thunder and planning a day trip to London in October. I have picked my one job for the day - order a new blue light card. I need to get moving now but I'm still going to have a slow morning. I’m working this afternoon and need to preserve my energy for that.

Peridot1 · 12/08/2024 09:32

Morning all.

Welcome @Midlifeshenanigans. Just getting one thing a day done really makes a difference. I too am great at lists but not necessarily at doing!

@SummerLobelia - secret skip hiring sounds like a great plan.

I need a doing day today. So today’s list:

  • wash spare room bedding
  • charity shop run/pick up mattress topper from laundry/quick supermarket run
  • make brown soda bread before buttermilk goes out of date
  • clear dining area

Anything more will be a bonus. But there does need to be more!

Midlifeshenanigans · 12/08/2024 16:38

Thanks for the welcomes. Filled a black bag from the room of doom as its bin day tomorrow but it’s too hot yo go much. It was my first day back at work today after holiday so feeling rather emailed out. Will clear the dining table later and must put the passports away so they are in the right place when we need them.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2024 19:11

Hello all! Heading out to Costco shortly and taking batteries, lightbulbs and the old landline to recycling centre as my "extra" for the day. Stripped bed and put sheets/pillow cases in the wash and pillows in hot dryer to de-bug and fluff up.

Cheering everyone on to get needed tasks done. 👏

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/08/2024 22:44

"Winter" already dear, Lobelia? 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/08/2024 00:15

Went to Costco, but fogot to take recycling with me. 🤦‍♀️
Taped up box that has kitchen fire extinguisher as was falling apart, put canning jars and rings into new plastic bin with snap close lid to keep little hands out, washed kitchen floor, wiped under drip catching rings on stove under the burners (what are they called?) and am going to make bed shortly. Having a latte now and watching a doc on Elizabeth Taylor while dc nap. (Still avoiding the real tasks.)🫣

SpringLobelia · 13/08/2024 08:01

The thanks bit defaults to my original name I used on the thread @Mumtobabyhavoc Grin

Hopefully summer for a long time yet [glares at grey skies outside].

I did alot of life admin yesterday. Today i need to chase some blood tests and try and find a birthday gift. Plus regular housework because our cleaner has been on holiday for 2 weeks and I have not kept it up to standard!

Peridot1 · 13/08/2024 08:54

Morning all.

I didn’t make brown bread yesterday but did everything else on my list plus some extras so I’m taking that as a win.

Today’s list:

  • make brown bread
  • washing
  • vacuum
  • clear out last school work folders from DS’s room as recycling goes out this evening
  • ironing
  • clean window and window frame in spare room
  • clear last few things that don’t belong anywhere from spare room

Definitely not ready for any winter related anything just yet @SummerLobelia! Loving the nice weather here at the moment.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I hate when I forget things like that. Happens way too often! Almost forgot to pick up what I went out for yesterday!

RunningKatie · 13/08/2024 09:26

The charity bags that were in dh's car to be dropped off are now back in the house as the charity shop isn't taking donations. I need to find another so I can drop next week!
Wfh day today, yesterday I mended a tshirt and a laundry bag.
Today I'm aiming for all fed and nobody dead, dh and dc2 are going on an adventure, which is amazing but I'm left with dc1, work, ddog and all the garden to water. Only for 2 days so I'll be absolutely fine but even the shopping they did is 95% sugar so I need to nip out or send dh for some actual vegetables before they go!

SingleThreadJoiner · 13/08/2024 15:56

Hello everyone! Back from holiday trip last night, have skimmed through the thread but I'm afraid I don't quite have the brains to tag specific people - I just have a general sense of admiration for everyone's productivity in the heat!

But hello to @Midlifeshenanigans and solidarity to @petalpower - I think we have something similar in the very near future, PILs are nearly 5hrs away and I really don't see how we're going to manage.

Today I was inspired by @SummerLobelia and had coffee ALONE by MYSELF for ten minutes in a cafe' as I was walking home from an errand and it was glorious ☕

Trying to be energetic and productive since being home - I'm on the fourth load of laundry (including one of teatowels and cloths, and one of swimsuits), we've unpacked two bags out of three, tidied for the cleaners who came this morning, I've been to the physio, we all went to the supermarket for a big shop, and I spontaneously found a photo that needed framing, and a frame that was empty and fit it, and put the two together! It's a lovely photo of my D so I am very pleased.

Ok - break over - back to work and emails....

Aria999 · 13/08/2024 19:45

Hi all! We got back late at night on Saturday (my birthday) after a 19 hour journey involving 2 flights and our first airplane toilet accident from DD. Happy birthday to me!

On Sunday, DD vomited 3 times from unknown causes and DS and I came down with a stinking cold.

Have both kids off today and have done a bit of work but mostly hiding in bed while they watch Telly.

On the plus side, my project to get the garage door replaced has concluded successfully. The new one makes me realize just how beat up the old one was. Even before I backed into it in the mistaken belief I had opened it 😳

Aria999 · 13/08/2024 19:52

Oh no @petalpower sorry to hear things are so stressful 😥

@RunningKatie yes that definitely merits a badge! My strategy so far is to pile school stuff and artwork up in the cellar and plan to deal with it later, but the cellar is threatening to become impassable so something may have to be done about it soon.

Welcome @Midlifeshenanigans!

So much productivity everyone!

Ok, I will try for a feasible set of tasks for the rest of today:

Wash DD mattress cover (it probably stinks from Sunday but I can't smell anything)

Put away at least some of the remaining holiday packing

Make a cup of coffee

(Probably not in that order)

Aria999 · 13/08/2024 23:42

Aaand it's not a cold, it's covid. Oh joy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2024 07:26

Oh, no, Aria. It's almost always bloody covid now. Sorry you and family have it, though. Please take good care and rest as much as you can. I wish I could help. 🩷

Peridot1 · 14/08/2024 08:50

Morning all.

That sucks @Aria999. I really think Covid should just get lost now. It’s had its bloody moment. Belated happy birthday for Saturday. Not the best birthday gift.

@RunningKatie - I almost had a similar experience doing a charity drop off. They said they were not taking clothes. But as I had Mens they did take them. And everything else I had thankfully!

Love the “all fed and nobody dead” plan!

Welcome back @SingleThreadJoiner - sounds like you have been very productive!

Well yet again I didn’t make the brown bread. But the buttermilk is still in date so I’ll do it tomorrow. Won’t have time today.

I did do the spare room which now just needs cleaning today and the bed making up. Also did half of the ironing. And some other tidying and sorting in my room.

Today is busy.

  • PT session
  • washing (1st lot done)
  • towel wash
  • general tidy for cleaners
  • clear dining area for joiner to start installing units this afternoon
  • put laundry away
  • tidy hallway
  • have facial thingie over lunchtime

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2024 04:03

Ok... trying to get tasks done I procrastinate on. Today I managed to file paper that has been stacking up past few months. ie. open mail, item needs to be filed, I leave it on desk. Whittled one stack down. 👍
Also, two loads laundry washed and hung.
Vacuumed.
Washed floor in living room and one bedroom including closet and closet doors.
Wiped window frame, track and screen; baseboards that didn't need furniture moved from them and heat register.
Tidied dc's clothes in dresser and removed clothes for donation and packed into a box. 👍👍

Making progress. 😊

RunningKatie · 15/08/2024 07:42

Wfh today, we had an internet outage at work yesterday so I'm playing catch-up.
When I'd run out of work I could do then I cleaned and emptied the dishwasher, swept through downstairs and dusted a bit, put washing out on line.
Today I want to make a plan for next week, I'm off work with the dc so we've got some plans but I'm thinking of doing some batch cooking, also need to label school uniform and get more bits for school. Plus I really need to relax and unwind, I have to remember that bit too.

Peridot1 · 15/08/2024 10:04

Morning all.

Am in countdown mode now for my friend arriving from Australia on Saturday. Am so excited. Not an ideal time to be having units installed in dining area but that is what is happening due to various delays. It is what it is!

Have quite a bit to do and desperately need to do a proper list. Main thing is spare bedroom is ready though so if nothing else gets done that’s ok. Other stuff is mainly just me wanting perfection really!

Today:

  • dishwasher (done)
  • laundry - one load done and second load on
  • clean lights over island unit
  • clear rubbish from hallway
  • brush dog
  • ironing
  • change a bed

And I’m getting my hair cut at 12.

Have a great day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 16/08/2024 10:21

Gaaaaah @Aria999 much sympathy, it is so miserable again, I hope it is a swift one for you all!

@Peridot1 enjoy your friend!

My domestic efforts have significantly declined as work has picked up this week, just trying to keep on top of laundry, and planning ahead for trip at the end of next week (I know, I know, two holidays are a luxury) - we are seeing various family and friends on continental Europe and need to sort out presents for them, things they might want from the UK, and so on.

Friends over for lunch tomorrow - playdate for the D and nice socialising for us parents - and then on Monday....Ms Swift is waiting for us! 🎶
