Oh @SingleThreadJoiner Thanks

Hope so much you are all okay and D's party as well goes well. Thanks

Hugs to you. xx

RunningKatie · 20/07/2024 21:11

Oh @SingleThreadJoiner - I do hope you're feeling better soon and that D's party is a huge sucess.

We've reached the end of term, ended up in the pub with lots of other parents and Y6's. It was lovely but quite emotional.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/07/2024 05:23

Oh Single, sorry to hear that. I'm pretty sure that's what we had last month, too. It's such an unpredictable virus and I hope you recover soon.

Speaking of.... I think we've picked something up. We all crashed this afternoon napping about 3 hours. I was drenched in sweat with a sore throat. Feeling better, but tired atm. So, plans to go out this afternoon/evening were scrapped. Managed a bath then steam mopped floors, area rugs and deck. Put a light dinner together and have been mostly refereeing Havoc who is quite possessive of toys where baby is concerned. 🤦‍♀️🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/07/2024 05:25

Katie, unsure of your school system. Does that mean high school next? (I don't think you use that term, though).

SummerLobelia · 21/07/2024 10:17

Morning all. :)

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you are taking it a bit easy.... you sound ill and definitely need to rest. Thanks

So glad you have finished for the summer @RunningKatie . Love the idea of ending up at the pub. Smile

I have tidied the kitchen and DS is about to put his next classic move on 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'.

We have on our list so far;

-The Ghost and Mrs Muir (my personal favourite)
-All the Hitchcocks
-The Lost Boys (although I need to check the age rating)
-Casablanca
-Jurassic Park
-ET
-Jaws (a re-watch as DS loved it!)
-The Goonies (You can tell that I was brought up in the 80s)

But before we start the film I need to put another wash on- bedding today.

Hope everyone is fine.

Peridot1 · 21/07/2024 10:20

Oh @SingleThreadJoiner that’s rubbish. Hope you are feeling better. It’s definitely doing the rounds.

@RunningKatie - it’s emotional for sure!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you all recover quickly from whatever it was.

So yesterday I didn’t plant the geraniums. Instead did the ironing. All of it. It’s all done. No more hanging around in baskets and on chairs. And then about an hour after I’d put the ironing board away DS appears with a shirt he would like ironed for an interview on Monday. 🙄 And as I think he should wear a shirt rather than what he was planning I suppose I’ll do it. 🙄

DH has just emptied and reloaded the dishwasher and vacuumed. I think he must be ill. He reckons he always does it when he kettle is boiling.🙄. Which he does when I’m away. But I’m not away. So I think I’ll just have another cup of tea!

Not much planned today. Ironing shirt for DS. Going out this afternoon to drinks at a neighbour’s. Planning dinner at the pub on the way home.

Frostandfrogs · 21/07/2024 10:47

Whatever it is, @RunningKatie, there's a lot of it about! Best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those with a lurgy 💐

I like the film list @SummerLobelia ! Although I still watch Jaws from behind a cushion...

@Peridot1 enjoy your cuppa! And let DS iron his own shirt!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I will let you know about the film if I go. It's not till August.

I had a little word with DH about his excessive grocery shopping, and packed 3 bags of store cupboard food for him to give to various offspring and the food bank. I am insisting on doing it in future ( I've let him because he likes it - weirdo!) and if he does buy anything he is to cook it and eat it all.
I put my foot down with a firm hand, as my lovely late dad used to say.

Being sickly has made me somewhat irritatable about the efforts I have to go to to avoid food waste. Sorry not sorry!

It was a long time coming because he means well ( and I prefer not to go to the supermarket)

Oh well 😂

I hope you all survive the weekend 🍵 🍪

SummerLobelia · 21/07/2024 11:04

My DH also goes a bit wild with grocery shopping. He buys in bulk as he has a fear of scarcity I believe. But we sometimes have a shocking amount of waste. We have in our larder something like 10-12 packs of dried legumes for example. That's fine because they don't go out of date but I have had to chuck various tins..... when i moved in in 2006 he had tins of thai chicken curry with a BBE of 1996. He would not let me chuck them and ate them all stubbornly. It's not so bad nowadays. I have been using the legumes in smug soup and also use them to bulk out pasta sauces.

I've recently banned DH from buying fresh food because that does go to waste. He is responsible for thing like toilet roll and dishwashing stuff and pet food now.

SummerLobelia · 21/07/2024 11:08

Oh and yes, @Frostandfrogs I forgot to say- trying to stand from the floor after wine is definitely not any easier. More amusing perhaps (for my family audience because I face planted) but not easier. Grin

Peridot1 · 21/07/2024 13:09

@Frostandfrogs - I know he should iron it himself. But I have been a terrible mother and never showed him how. And he has a big presentation to prepare for the interview tomorrow and I know he is stressed. So I did it. Well steamed it. Didn’t actually get the ironing board out. But teaching him to iron is definitely in the plan for the next week or so.

@SummerLobelia and @Frostandfrogs - DH is the same with shopping. Obsessed with a weekly online shop. And forgets to delete stuff. He ordered too much bread stuff this week and I have just thrown a load out as it’s all mouldy. So annoying. If I did it he’d been annoyed. If I comment he’s just defensive.

Frostandfrogs · 21/07/2024 14:06

I should think myself lucky as DH took my grumbling at him with good grace. I'm ashamed to say that I did ask him what's wrong with him that he hoards food so, but as I'm normally quite nice I got away with it. I suspect it's also a fear of scarcity, and I can certainly get behind having a 'well stocked pantry', just not so much that things go out of date ( and the pressure to use stuff) I like the idea of keeping him responsible for loo roll and pet food etc. Seems like a reasonable compromise. I don't know how much online delivery costs ( last time I did it, it was a fiver) but I suspect that even doing it online, I'll save money. Click and collect maybe 🤔

I'll let you off about the shirt this once then @Peridot1 and I'm certain if he's capable of university he's capable of figuring out how to iron. He'll let you think he isn't though 😂 💐 My lot did anyway, and also they figured out easy iron/non iron clothing.

I have a thundering headache. Think I've been clenching my jaw. Nothing much doing today and just reading/watching telly/vaguely cooking

SingleThreadJoiner · 21/07/2024 16:32

Thanks all for the kind thoughts. In the end the party was called off - D still positive and feverish this morning and it just didn't seem right. And I am still feeling so rotten, I need to be in bed or on the sofa rather than thinking about parties... H & I were quite upset, D I think less than I thought - my parents brought her lots of presents this morning, and people dropped in during the day with presents too, so she enjoyed that. Now I need to focus on getting over this blasted virus!!

@SummerLobelia we rewatched Jurassic Park relatively recently and were reminded that it really is An Excellent Film, the craft of it and the jumpiness and everything - really impressive.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/07/2024 17:13

Single, seems sensible. Get well to all of you. 💐
Peridot, I buy a lot of bread products, too. My solution is to put into freezer and take out as needed. I also keep what's in use in the fridge as bread moulds here within a couple days. Humidity, I think.
Summer, eww. Tins of chicken curry for one, 🤢
But eating it past expiry? 🤮 I hope he realizes how lucky he is you stayed! 🤣
Frosty, do you wear a night guard?

Feeling better today, but tired. Thanks for the well wishes. Sending same to those feeling ill or just meh. 💐😊
I've got a mountain of towels that need to be washed and I'm not prepared to do anything beyond that today.
🙅‍♀️

SummerLobelia · 22/07/2024 07:52

Morning all.

So sorry about your DD's party @SingleThreadJoiner . Hope you are all feeling a very great deal better soon. Thanks

Hope you feel better also @Mumtobabyhavoc . Giving yourself a break when feeling rotten is rhe best thing. Thanks . I know about the tinned curry. 😩Thankfully DH is now vegetarian - he used to really worry me with his lackadaisical approach!

I need to spend some time clearing up our patio today. The gardeners are coming today and its embarrassingly messy. I also plan to clean the kitchen utensil drawer.

Hope everyone has a lovely day, and that all who feel unwell are better.

SummerLobelia · 22/07/2024 07:54

I also really enjoy Jurassic park!! Mind you, I have a complete crush on Sam Neill. Grin

Frostandfrogs · 22/07/2024 08:17

Sorry about the party @SingleThreadJoiner I hope you are able to rest up, and feel better soon 💕

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope a quiet day has helped. I mean it's never going to be properly quiet with two tinies and I hope you have some support 💐 I do wear a mouthguard, but while it protects my teeth, it doesn't stop the way I clench the muscles. I have had botox which helped but I'm overdue for the next treatment. Feeling unwell has made me quite irritable, and things that normally wash over me, haven't 😳 So I am quite literally a bit of a faceache 😂 Which is what my charming mother used to call me when I was a child.

Good luck with the patio and utensil drawer @SummerLobelia and a big 👋 to everyone else!

RunningKatie · 22/07/2024 08:39

Morning all - sitting beside the seaside, beside the sea! My plan this week is to walk a bit, spend time with the dc and dh, and drink coffee/gin depending on the time of day.
Dc1 and I are off out for breakfast, although the cafe opens in 20 mins and I've not seen or heard her yet. So, maybe not!
Hope D and everyone else are feeling much better soon @SingleThreadJoiner and you are too @Mumtobabyhavoc

Peridot1 · 22/07/2024 08:50

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I would have put the extra bread stuff in the freezer. But it’s full!

That’s a shame about the party @SingleThreadJoiner - hope you all feel better soon.

I was up and out early today dropping DS at the station. Contemplating going to the gym. But drinking tea while I contemplate.

I need to do a bit of a sort in DS’s room. It’s a total mess as he’s been working in it solidly for a couple of weeks now. And the joiner put some photos on his Instagram of the wardrobes he’s building for DS’s room and they may be ready this week.

So today’s list:

  • dishwasher/kitchen
  • DS’s washing
  • pick up duvets from dry cleaners
  • Clear rubbish from DS’s room

There is more I’m sure!

Have a great day all.

SummerLobelia · 22/07/2024 09:38

Checking back in.

Utensil drawer cleaned. I discovered I had a potato ricer and a meat thermometer!

Now to vacuum downstairs then the patio.

SpiritOfEdna · 22/07/2024 10:22

hope you are feeling better @SingleThreadJoiner @Mumtobabyhavoc
Well, we had a very British BBQ on Saturday, blindingly warm weather to start and then all huddled under a gazebo in the lashing rain. I may have done my first ever vodka shot....Sibling loved her surprise, so all good. Spent yesterday lolling about on the sofa and had a quick rearrange of my bedroom.
Got a notice from the hire company that I have a speeding fine coming my way from Cornwall (on top of the parking fine). That break is turning out to be quite spendy 😃It'll be from one of the many times I got lost and was flustered....

I am back up and running workwise - no more peering at spreadsheets on my phone.
Today:

  • measure downstairs footage to get a costing for new floors. DONE (ouch - I'll have to save up for what I want)
  • need to catch up on Finance admin - I am spending a fortune in the local shop on 'bits'
  • tidy up art desk so can start to plan something new (or re-do something old 😄)
  • fix (again) or dump exercise bike
  • move under the bed storage to other side so can store art stuff near the desk.
  • I cut out a pattern for a pair of trousers yesterday, want to pin out to the fabric tonight.
  • My exercise routine went to pot last week, so need to get back on track today.
Have a good day, SoE
Ineedtokeepmoving · 22/07/2024 11:55

Morning all, I hope everyone who is ill is feeling a bit better, high temps when it’s hot is not nice. I have been feeling my usual kind of rubbish so had a quietish weekend, and rested, but have kept up the one thing inside and outside even tho they were v small. I’m aiming for descaling the sink, and wiping the fridge out today. And if it gets sunnier I’ll do some more jungle taming. I have been bitten loads with the high humidity and it being overcast - despite Smidge! 😱
I’m pacing myself today with little snackettes of knitting and sewing.

Frostandfrogs · 22/07/2024 13:55

It's all go here on the project thread 🎉 I contemplate over tea as well @Peridot1 and hope you make it to the gym!
I'm feeling better enough to want to get on and do things, but not better enough to actually do them.
Everyone fed, and nobody dead is my motto for today. My caring responsibilities are taking place remotely...ie organising other people to cover what I can't do. DH is down now and I'm the healthier of the two of us at this point.
Congrats on the utensil drawer Summer

Lost and flustered sounds expensive @SpiritOfEdna I can relate. Dd calls it the adhd tax. Im glad the party went well despite the British weather! We haven't had rain but it's much cooler which comes as a relief to me! Not really sitting on the beach weather round here (though I can hear seagulls from my sheltered garden) @RunningKatie I hope you are having a great time, feeling better and staying somewhere at least slightly more sunny than here!

👋 @Ineedtokeepmoving sounds like you are combining self care with getting things done really well!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/07/2024 20:47

Everyone fed, and nobody dead 😂👍

Frostandfrogs · 23/07/2024 08:46

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/07/2024 20:47

Everyone fed, and nobody dead 😂👍

Rules to live by! 😂 I can't take credit for it though...was someone one here who said it. Maybe @Aria999 or @RunningKatie 🤔
It was certainly apt here yesterday though! Despite being an all adult (plus pets) household!

Frostandfrogs · 23/07/2024 08:52

How are we all? DH is still quite poorly and off sick, but I am just coughing a bit now. I'm feeling some motivation to do things today and will shortly be testing for energy levels. It'll probably a stop start kind of day and I'm grateful to not be working.

I'm going to have a shower then start setting things straight. I do have something to scan and email, so that had better be a priority too.

I can't believe that it is nearly August!
