I'm definitely an everybody fed and nobody dead parent at times!
My mission to do very little this week is going well so far. It's a glorious summers day even before 9am, I've made a coffee. Dc1 is getting showered and dressed, dh and dc2 have gone out for breakfast so I've got a little window of quiet. Bliss.

SpiritOfEdna · 23/07/2024 10:43

<ADHD tax> I have long suspected ADHD 😃My mind is very flighty and I do need a list of tasks to Get Things Done
Today

  • 1 PT session down, band and yoga exercises done
  • some left over tasks from yesterday - still need to pin pattern out. I would be useless on Sewing Bee, it'd be 3 and a half hours of faffing and 30 mins frantic sewing 😃The table I need to use is quite cluttered and needs clearing off
  • now the outside has been painted move the bikes back outside
  • clean the floors - keep coming across bits of rick rack and orange thread
  • water plants and put them back in their homes
Right, off to do bikes and table which will give me room to maneouvre around with fabric and stabby pins Have a good day, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/07/2024 20:00

Had a bit of unexpected cleaning when Havoc dropped the saucer under my coffee cup. Luckily coffee was done. Havoc is obsessed with mummy's coffee and likes to take sips/pretend sips/sips of milk foam. I had a brief flash of Uh-oh before SMASH! 🤦‍♀️

Awaiting handyman to assess kitchen repair.
Have completed phone med appt for baby.
Weather has cooled considerably. Was 12c overnight and had baby in sleepers! Breeze feels lovely. 🌤️🌬️🙂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/07/2024 00:03

SoE, I envy your ability to sew! 👍😃
Katie, sounds like a great start to the day! 😊
⛄️🐸 Glad you're on the up, but sorry your dh now has the lurgy.
INTKM, one task inside & one outside seems like a good approach! 💡

Just scrolling while dc nap. I should be tasking or napping, though. 🤷‍♀️
Have wiped kitchen floor and counter earlier, but not too motivated otherwise. 🫣

Oh! I spilled my protein shake on my bedroom floor, wiped it up THEN wiped entire floor, baseboards, around window and window sill. 😅 Phew! Had forgotten. Ok, still ahead of the game, then. 😁

SingleThreadJoiner · 24/07/2024 17:36

How are things chez @Frostandfrogs? I haven't spent much time away from the bed since Sunday. It's really hit me hard. Nausea and exhaustion and brain fog are probably the three worst symptoms. Possibly small signs of improvement compared to yesterday.

@RunningKatie I hope you are continuing to enjoy your seaside week!

H made a smug soup for lunch today - carrots, two potatoes, a tin of cannellini beans, chicken stock, whizz - it was wonderful and so comforting, just what we needed.

SummerLobelia · 25/07/2024 08:34

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well and lurgies have been sent packing for all.

I also like the idea of one job inside and one outside.

Today i need to book some tip runs and to then get ready for them. Quite a few sections of the garden are very messy so that will be the focus for outside jobs.

Inside.... I have books everywhere so I will go and return them to their various bookcases.

Hope everyone has a good day!

sortmyselfoutagain · 25/07/2024 09:31

Hello, may I join please? I'm chronically overwhelmed by all the things I would like to do around the house but never seem to get anything done. I would love to live in a house that's clean and tidy with everything organised so I know exactly where everything is and I can get to it immediately if I need to. I'd also love to have a cleaning routine so I can keep on top of it all and it stops feeling overwhelming. I've devised a plan to do 30 mins each day on a different room in the house. Today is spare room day and I'd like to:

  • Sort out half wardrobe and decide what I'm going to do with everything
  • Tidy out 5 items the "doom box" - this is a box of things that don't really have a home yet or that I actually need to action / sell etc
I have somehow managed to drop my phone down the toilet today so will need to get that looked at. Literally everything is on my phone and I feel a bit lost without (sad I know!). On top of 30 mins in spare room I'd also like to:
  • Go to phone shop
  • Collect items around the house to go up to the loft and actually take them up
  • Change name with HMRC & union
  • Collect form to change doctors
  • Take clothes back to Tesco
Hope everyone is ok with me joining and rambling on!
Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/07/2024 10:46

Anyone that has a doom box is very welcome in my books @sortmyselfoutagain 🤗

(back to bed for me!)

SummerLobelia · 25/07/2024 15:30

Welcome @sortmyselfoutagain !

I like the idea of a doom box! At least it's all in one place!

I have not yet done any outdoor stuff.... it has been raining all day. I have however;
-picked up a prescription
-registered with a new dentist
-took the cat to the vet
-done a load of ironing

Now about to put all wayward books in their rightful location.

Hope everyone is well. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/07/2024 00:42

@sortmyselfoutagain did you sort your phone?
@SummerLobelia books put away?

I semi completed a nagging task a year old +.
sorted a box in hall closet: put items to keep into a plastic bin and have now got a box of old tv cables and splitters to drop at recycling. Have also done multiple med appts: attended one in person, one by phone and booked three others. 🤗

SingleThreadJoiner · 26/07/2024 14:18

Hello @sortmyselfoutagain and thank you for introducing the idea of the doom box! Definitely one to adopt!

I am gradually stepping up the amount of time I spend out of bed. Managed two loads of laundry yesterday and two today, and trying not to leave a room without tidying up one thing in it. Really trying to be careful about not overdoing it though.

sortmyselfoutagain · 26/07/2024 20:07

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc @SummerLobelia and @SingleThreadJoiner for the lovely welcome. The doom box has grown out of control and will take a while to sort but the plan is to store the things I don't have time or energy for / can't be bothered to deal with immediately and I'll set aside time each week to sort it. I dream of the day I have systems like this in place rather than opening drawers and shoving things in never to see the light of day again!

The phone saga unfortunately continues. I've ended up with a brand new phone today and as I can't access anything on the old one I now have no contacts or apps or anything. I'm going to go back to the phone shop tomorrow and see if they can at least get it to turn on so I can transfer everything over and save me the hassle of doing it.

I didn't manage to get some of my tasks done yesterday (I did manage to take things up to the loft, go to the phone shop, change my name with HMRC and tidy 5 items out the doom box). I have a bit of time blindness and really struggle to judge how long a task can take. I will probably post on here everyday saying I'm going to do a dozen things but in reality I'll only get one done. This used to really upset me as I genuinely believed that if I wanted to complete a task then I would without considering the time involved. Nowadays I like to have a list of things to do and if I get round to them then great and if not oh well there's always tomorrow.

I'm quite tired this evening so my only tasks for tonight are scrolling on Mumsnet and Instagram!
Hope everyone is doing well!

RunningKatie · 26/07/2024 21:09

Beach life has been fab, sadly tomorrow is back to reality.
Operation do not much all week has gone well! I've done lots of steps though and eaten many many many yummy things.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/07/2024 21:47

sort, I have a horror bedroom. 🤭🫣
This might not be helpful, but there are companies that specialize in recovering date from electronics as long as a reset has not been done. I contacted a company in the US for this a few years ago, expensive, but worth it if critical. I contacted, Drive Savers, in California, if I remember correctly.

Katie, right there with you with food! Having a buffet right now watching Olympics' opening ceremony (had to rewind as dc kept me from watching right through!). Have got croissant, cheese, fruit, strawberry jam, caramel sauce, coffee cake, cafe au lait.

RunningKatie · 27/07/2024 19:11

Now that sounds like a feast @Mumtobabyhavoc - the opening ceremony was a rather soggy watch wasn't it?!

We're home again now, there's the usual stuff everywhere but also all the end of term stuff that was just dumped as we dashed off to the coast.

Now I've got tomorrow to sort it all but also relax before work on Monday, at least I know I'm wfh as covid is still taking people out in our office so we're trying to keep separated where possible.

Hope everyone is getting and enjoying some sunnier weather.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/07/2024 22:15

Looked that way, Katie, but we enjoyed watching.
We're used to rain here, too, though. Celine's performance was very moving.

Managed to wash floors last night before bed. Have a mountain of laundry, atm but zero motivation. 🥱

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/07/2024 08:18

Finally getting laundry done! Second load in the wash now. Rewarding myself with a rocky road brownie with caramel sauce on top. 🤭

Aria999 · 28/07/2024 18:51

Hello all! We are in Bristol. Lovely weather.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/07/2024 19:07

Aria, just googled. Looks lovely there! 😊

RunningKatie · 28/07/2024 20:10

Enjoy Bristol @Aria999 - the weather really has turned much better now.
We've had a gardening & sorting day, I've picked all the sweet peas and have a lovely scented posy on the fireplace now.
Ddog has settled into being back at home again very quickly, has woofed at every dog he has a grudge with since we got back. So frustrating as he was really good whilst in a strange place.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/07/2024 14:39

Morning; very warm here but fretting about SpiritDoggo who has managed to skin a small layer of skin off one of her paw pads. She is fretty and licking it, debating the vets (athough it has not been bleeding).

Yesterday was a busy one so today am enjoying the fruits of yesterday's labour in a very virtuous way

  • tool shed all tidied up and a couple of tips runs were needed, so today i've put up some pictures as I found the picture hanging kit, the hammer and spirit level All In The Same Place😄
  • big shop in Costco yesterday so no random spendy trips to the Co-op today
  • batch cooked a stew base yesterday so tonight's tea is nearly sorted out
  • recycle all the coffee pods
  • liberate all the cups from my desk back downstairs
  • one load of washing down and out on the line to dry
  • back to sewing later
Right back to work, have a good day, SoE
SingleThreadJoiner · 29/07/2024 21:07

I'm a big fan of Bristol too, @Aria999 ! Hope you are having a splendid time.

How is the Doggo, @SpiritOfEdna ?

I am pleased with my attempts at being more like a regular human being again. Saturday we went blackberry picking. Yesterday we made a pear and cardamom loaf to bring to friends, and also stewed a vast amount of apples and pears that were sitting in the fridge, to freeze for crumbles later on smug face

I've been trying to get back on top of life admin, and work, and throwing bits of packing together as we are going on holiday on Thursday.

Plus a full getting-house-ready-for-the-cleaners swoop tonight, they haven't been able to come the past two weeks and they have been sorely missed!

RunningKatie · 29/07/2024 21:09

Just taken ddog out on an evening walk, it's been super warm here today.
Got all the white washing done too, now I feel I need to make a list of summer holiday tasks. Not made much progress on manging to stand up from the floor unaided yet.
This evening, I need to book cinema tickets, do my duolingo and drink tea whilst catching up with the olympics.
I'm going to book club tomorrow because bonkers new woman is away, wondering if anyone will say anything!

SummerLobelia · 30/07/2024 06:44

You sound loads better @SingleThreadJoiner that is good to hear. Smile

Hope book club goes well @RunningKatie ! I am on a downer about mine right now. We have one woman who dominates. Next choice was mine though so i probably ought not quit yet.

I have alot of tidying to do today. Not much has been achieved the past few days but I have been out in the glorious sun so that is something. Plus I recalled I needed to renew a passport and got that sent off yesterday.

Have a good day all.

Peridot1 · 30/07/2024 09:56

Hello all.

I’ve managed to avoid the thread for a bit somehow.

Glad everyone is doing ok.

Welcome @sortmyselfoutagain. Hope you get your phone sorted - what a nightmare to lose everything. With regards to getting things done and making a long list and not doing it this thread was initially about getting one thing done a day. Even if you do nothing else getting one thing done is moving forward. I think we all tend to forget that. It’s all about moving forward slowly.

I have been pottering and not really achieving much I feel. But I have a lot to get done! My friend in Australia is coming to stay in a couple of weeks. The building work is not finished. Well it’s not building really just wardrobes and a big display unit being built. I think it will be done next week or fingers crossed end of this week. I can’t get the spare room ready for friend arriving until wardrobe in DS’s room is built as all his stuff is in spare room.

I have a big list of things to do generally and need to get going with it.

Today:

  • change a bed
  • wash an outside chair
  • book to get soffits cleaned
  • order handles for wardrobe and unit
  • email cleaning company to drop them to every two weeks
  • pull out some weeds
  • deadhead roses
  • go for blood test
  • message some friends about catching up
  • put up a WhatsApp post on village group

Right. Off to do stuff!
