Oh Havoc that just sounds dreamy. I had 2 under 2 (and eventually 4 under 6) and I miss those days!

We are part way through our 4th annual NYE 5 course dinner. It starts with cocktails/mocktails and canapés in the kitchen before 1st course, sorbet palate cleanser, main, pudding and then petit fours. It started as a lockdown thing but DC love it. Conversation is flowing, lots of laughter and stuff to clear up tomorrow!

HelenaJustina · 31/12/2023 21:31

We all dress up for it too, I’m currently wearing a floor length, pale green, corset back, bejewelled number from pre-DC!

Lemonsandlemonade · 31/12/2023 21:55

Havoc that sounds perfect to me. Enjoy.

Helena that sounds a lovely thing to do.

Tonight cooked my usual NYE meal. Duck Beast in an orange sauce layered potatoes, braised red cabbage and broccoli. ( DH ordered duck in orange sauce when we were first together). Followed by chocolate cake of DS’s choosing.

it’s very wet and windy here.

MissConductUS · 31/12/2023 22:02

Welcome, @gocompare, and thanks for sharing your NYE news. I saw on the BBC website earlier today that the weather in the UK isn't good today.

Helena, good on your for doing it up right on NYE. Your dress sounds festive.

Lemons, your meal sounds fab too. I love duck but rarely have it.

Our roast chicken has just come out of the oven. DS did the roasting with an herb butter basting.

Happy New Year to all. The barrage of fireworks will begin here shortly, although some are already going off (it’s 11:15 pm), and the first lot started up at ten past 5 this afternoon! I’m lying in bed reading and about to put earplugs in so I won’t have to listen to the onslaught. As you can tell, I’m not in the wild celebrations camp….

Tilllly · 31/12/2023 23:27

I have a duck in the freezer and have no idea how to cook it
So there it stays

Been over to neighbours
They do a quiz, takeaway, games and so on

Just went for quiz tho, then watched the last leg whilst on grp WhatsApp with friends and now in bed

Wished Alexa HNY and she told me off cos it's not midnight 🤣

bizzey · 31/12/2023 23:51

Tillly ..I just tried and got same message !! 🤣🤣
She did offer to sing auld Lang to me through 🤣🤣

Tilllly · 01/01/2024 00:00

Try now!

bizzey · 01/01/2024 00:04

I think she is getting grumpy with me now 😅😅.
I did it , she replied HNY and said something about resolutions but I missed it as a firework went off.

I tried again and she replied HNY and hope it is a good year...

I tried again ...and just got HNY 🤣🤣...

our Alexa is a right moody cow sometimes though !!

bizzey · 01/01/2024 00:10

HNY everyone!!🎉🎉🎉.

I have just done my back door and front door tradition.

Wondering if anyone else does it ?

MrsFloof · 01/01/2024 00:13

bizzey · 01/01/2024 00:15

So Floof has 2 hampers now ? !!😅

MrsFloof · 01/01/2024 00:18

Yes he's Mr 2 hampers, he's a bit big for the small one so upgraded him to medium. If we get Mrs Floof they can have his and hers hampers though it will likely be his and his.

Just catching up - happy new year everyone!
Many congratulations indeed Havoc! Glad you're having a peaceful time.
Glad camp went well Echobelly, am assuming actual tents were not involved?
Sounds like everyone had a peaceful New Year - mine was less so as we went to our rugby club and had some dubious entertainment and conviviality but was an enjoyable evening nonetheless.
Now taking down the decorations - a thankless task mainly undertaken by me. DS1, during his only contribution of carrying the boxes up the stairs knocked a picture off the wall, so we will have to get a new frame for it...

IWanderedLonely · 01/01/2024 15:25

I've just sat down after taking down our decs Sprouts everywhere looks lovely and clean but very bare.
Back to work tomorrow, really don't want to go.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 01/01/2024 17:29

That's a lovely mental picture of you all Havoc.

Hope your dog is ok after the fireworks Kathie.

Happy birthday to MissC DH hope you both had a great day.

Floof I think it's great both your DC wanted to spend new year's eve with you.

We're having a relaxing day indoors, got Christmas songs playing.

mathanxiety · 01/01/2024 18:08

Do you have any family or friends coming to help or visit Havoc?

Wishing your DH a very happy birthday, MissC.

Hope whatever it is will pass you by, Mallards.

We had a really quiet NYE here. DD4 went to a party in the city with friends. DD3 and I watched reruns of Downton Abbey on TV.

DD3 and Co were dropped off by the dad of one friend, and I picked them up. I generally avoid driving through the streets of the city and either go downtown by train or take the motorway, but one particular city street was the most direct route to the party, so I took it. The part of the city I had to cross to get to the party neighbourhood isn't the most salubrious, but there was hardly anyone out as we were experiencing the dreaded 'wintry mix', weather-wise. Someone let off fireworks in an alley when I was sitting at a red light and I thought, "This is how it all ends!" but then noticed the fireworks and had a word with myself.

Got home around 1am and to bed around 1:30. I'm planning to watch Darkest Hour on Netflix today after getting the pork shoulder into the oven for slow roasting. Neither of the girls has surfaced yet Smile

mathanxiety · 01/01/2024 18:09

*DD4 and Co.

Tilllly · 01/01/2024 19:34

I'm watching something on 5USA, War of the worlds. I put it on thinking it would just be some rubbish while I did some bits, but I'm on episode two and it's really really good.

Gabriel Byrne and Lady Cora!

MrsFloof · 01/01/2024 20:26

Just been swimming, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, busier than normal as NYD but did 107 lengths and also have hoovered upstairs and cleaned the kitchen and downstairs bathroom today.

DS had eaten the chocolate hedgehogs and biscuits I got him for NYE and the Economics book I put on his bed had moved twice. It might be Floof. He also has drank the grape and apple juice which is good as he needs vitamin C. Looks like he is going into our garden quickly maybe to see the silkies just for a minute or so. He is showing his face and hair now and using lots of my wild rose and lavender bath foam. Thought I heard another noise from him though hard to be sure as I was upstairs, him downstairs and could have been external. DD also thinks he's a bit better. Its his birthday soon.

We still have all decorations up and also doing Christmas songs, DS seems to like the decorations and Floof loves the songs.

MrsFloof · 01/01/2024 20:28

We are going to have steak pie tonight - I heard on MN its a Scottish tradition for New Year, think its NYE but DS loves steak and pies and its nice to have something different.

Hope things are going well with the 2 Havocs havoc and you can also get some well deserved rest.

Tilllly · 01/01/2024 20:42

107 lengths....

MissConductUS · 02/01/2024 19:31

DH had a nice birthday yesterday. We went to dinner at a restaurant in a small river town about a half hour's drive north of us, so more rural. DH and the kids had steak frites, and I had a pork ragu over pasta with tomato sauce and ricotta cheese which was fabulous. Then home for presents and cake.

We're in the post-Christmas lull here. DD got her new driver's license in the mail, which was a bit exciting. She had to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles before Christmas in person to renew it so that they could test her vision.

Am pleased that your DS doing a little better. Floof.

Glad your DH had a good birthday MissC. I am very into birthdays as they are so special.

DS and I went for a swim today with a friend who I met at a baby group. She is pregnant with her second . I am very pleased for her but had a prang of sadness as I would love a second but that’s never going to happen.

Tilllly · 02/01/2024 20:51

Awww I'm sorry @Lemonsandlemonade

I remember that feeling well

I did a Pilates class today... I'd no idea it would be that hard!!! I was shattered!
