3 x DC are back at school today, so even though I’m not back at work, I returned to pre-6am start. It could feel like a long day but I have plans to be productive!

whyyy321 · 03/01/2024 10:46

Ah lemons I'm sorry, that's hard. In a similar boat! Hoping the feeling passes.

Was back to work yesterday but today is the first "proper" day (I work in healthcare so first clinic day back today). Finding the motivation is low!

Got bits in to make a roast gnocchi and halloumi bake thing later with spinach and some other bits which will (hopefully) be nice. Went to MiL for a chinese yesterday evening which was alright but my pet hate as a veggie is when options are just the meat dishes without the meat!

Window cleaner is here, I always feel so awkward and never know where to look...

GettingStuffed · 03/01/2024 10:48

De lurking
My grandson is comyto stay as parents are working and school doesn't start til next Monday

MissConductUS · 03/01/2024 14:10

Welcome, @GettingStuffed, and thanks for sharing your calming news. How old is your grandson, and do you see him often?

I had an exam with my orthopedist yesterday for some tingling and numbness in my shoulder. He thinks it’s a pinched nerve and wants me to do physical therapy for a month and then get an MRI if it’s not better. He’s also given me a script for prednisone, which I don’t like taking. But needs must.

Well ...my ...no spend January has been a complete failure... 3 days in ! 🤣🤣 🤦🤦!

bizzey · 03/01/2024 16:44

For those who have read about my energy levels and my stupid idea that it coincides with the moon...

We are heading towards a full/new moon !!

They are completely different as it happens !!

Any how ...I have energy today

Though a bit sad as well...😟

I knew it would happen...but...

Had app with ds's consultant this morning.

We are being moved over to adult department.

Saying goodbye after 11 years made me realise.....well lots of things !

New year...new consultant...new hoover...
Bring it on !! 🤣

HelenaJustina · 03/01/2024 19:16

DH completely cured his frozen shoulder with physio despite the keenness of the surgeon to operate Miss hope it works for you quickly.

My day was productive. I got all the decorations away and hoovered afterwards. Swapped all the dates from my old wall calendar to the new one. Did three loads of laundry and collected DC from school so they didn’t have to get the bus. It’s so rare that I’m around when they are in school, I’m making the most of it!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 03/01/2024 19:37

Don't underestimate the power of mother nature Bizzey! Now you know about your energy levels you can try to plan your life around the moon, so you needn't be too active when it's not your natural state.

Ouch Tilllly 😖. Pilates is a special kind of torture where you discover muscles you didn't know existed.

Glad you both had a nice day MissC.

It's good DS avoided an unnecessary operation Helena.

Enjoy the time with your grandson Stuffed.

I hated having a window cleaner too Why. Got rid of them when I got rid of the ex. I'm someone who takes a nap at odd times of the day, it was most disconcerting to sometimes wake up to a face at the window.

I've got all the parcels coming in the next week or so which were ordered between Christmas and New Year. Today has been spent making room for things.

bizzey · 03/01/2024 21:07

@MallardsMoorhensAndLethe
Thank you for understanding.

MrsFloof · 03/01/2024 21:23

Went swimming and did 100 lengths and then cleaned house a bit and a lovely bath. Preparing for DSs birthday.

halfpasteleven · 03/01/2024 22:25

Good luck with the preparations Mrsfloof
I hope your DS enjoys his birthday.

Had two friends call separately today.
Managed lunch for one and dinner for the other!
Was lovely to see them both.

Tilllly · 03/01/2024 23:39

I've had a lovely afternoon out with my little Godson
He was FILTHY when I took him home - puddles are for jumping in and it was fairly muddy generally

We took a big bag of bird seed and fed
A robin
Several squirrels
Big birds (swans)
Ducks
A pheasant with a long tail
A goose with a broken wing

Crows. 🐦‍⬛. Several crows... which then followed us cawing for more and attracting their crow friends 🐦‍⬛
Totally freaked me out due to ongoing crow thread

So we had to re-energise in the cafe and being National trust, have a cake

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 04/01/2024 00:45

😆 at the crows following you Tilllly.

I don't know if you grow things Bizzey but if you do, look into luna planting. Affects how well your plants thrive. It's old knowledge that's been lost with modern life and everyone buying things from supermarkets.

mathanxiety · 04/01/2024 02:51

Sounds like a great afternoon, Tillly.
Crows are eerily intelligent. I get the feeling they know us better than we know them.

DD3 is making banana muffins. We have run out of Christmas chocolate, so she's adding chocolate chips to them. She has promised to wash up all the baking accoutrements. However, I can hear the sound of a bath running, so I'm not sure when she intends to clear the sink.

My hibiscus, which didn't bloom at all out on the deck this summer, produced two blossoms in the last ten days. The rubber plants that I rescued from a snowy gutter before Christmas have sent out little buds on the bare stalks and one new leaf on a stalk whose leaves survived the dumping (many fell off since the rescue). The rescued geranium has been blooming too, with lots of new leaves.

MrsFloof hope DS will have a happy birthday.

MissC I hope the physiotherapy will be enough for your shoulder.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/01/2024 07:34

Sounds lovely Tilly - am a great believer in allowing children to get messy.

were the muffins nice Math?

Glad you had fun with friends half.

Hope physio fixes it miss C

Yesterday I got some 4 lots of Christmas papers and 2 tags packs from Marks and Spencer sale yesterday. Should have been £14 but came to £3.25 bargain and picked up a good quality waterproof coat for DS for £8. Was so happy with them!

Tilllly · 04/01/2024 08:23

❤️ a bargsin @Lemonsandlemonade 😁

MrsFloof · 04/01/2024 16:57

Thanks Half and glad you had a lovely time with your friends. Not a massive amount of prep to do since DS doesn't want anyone round or to go out but got all his presents sorted and the cake sorted.

Other than that just been hoovering today. Masses of cat hair. 🤔

Thanks Math Enjoy the banana muffins.

DH has gone down to south London which will be around a 5 hour round trip.

Most presents are edible and currently trying to keep them in a safe place. DD went out with her boyfriend for a meal with his parents and was very insistent only the one outfit (out of her 1,000 odd) in the washing machine where DS was would do. She asked him to move to put it in the dryer. That was Ok. Then she wanted it out of the drier and DS decided to shut 3 doors before the drier to stop her but she got through quickly then he stood blocking the drier but she got it out from behind him and went for dinner at her boyfriends. She said she was happy her brother is returning to normal teenage mode of trying to be as annoying as possible.

Lemonsandlemonade · 04/01/2024 20:43

Floof lovely update on your DS there sounds like he is making some progress. I hope you manage to keep his pressies hidden.

HildaTablet · 04/01/2024 23:26

It’s an absolute scandal @Lemonsandlemonade. I haven’t caught up with the programme yet but have been following the whole horrific saga for years thanks to Private Eye’s very in-depth coverage (for those who don’t know it, it’s a satirical magazine which does news stories too). Heads should roll on a massive scale at the PO.

On another note, DH and I were in London today and walked through St James’s Park, which is just by Buckingham Palace. There were loads of people around and lots of extremely hopeful ducks and geese wanting food, although these days you’re not supposed to give them any.

At one tree a big crowd was gathered because a flock of parakeets had perched and were flying down onto people’s shoulders and hands. They’ve become endemic in London and the South-East now, and you often hear them shrieking as they fly around. Vast flocks of them congregate in many of the parks.

We also walked round the lake and saw the famous pelicans. To be honest, the poor things looked a bit miserable and cold. It wasn’t a particularly sunny or warm day and they were all shivering very slightly.

Those pelicans do look a bit sad Hilda, maybe they're struggling for time to dry out in between all the rain

I just returned from a late night food shop. The supermarket was almost empty.

HelenaJustina · 05/01/2024 09:32

Flooded into the village again with only one dryish route out. Properties don’t get wet as the village is up a small hill but the river encircles it and swamps roads and fields. Last day ‘off’ and still in pyjamas!

MrsFloof · 05/01/2024 09:56

Thanks Lemons Yes the post office thing is horrific and seems to have been given a medal too, that system is so corrupt - its a shame some really worthy people get medals and some really dubious ones.

Lovely photos Hilda I love the long beaks of the pelicans.

Hope the flooding improves soon Helena and return to work goes OK.

Good the shop wasn't busy Mallards

We left the cake out for DS at midnight and told him and he's taken a big slice in the night and left rest in the kitchen which is good. I just had a small piece with a cup of tea. He has his presents in a hamper.

Deathraystare · 05/01/2024 15:07

@HildaTablet

Love the photos of all the birdies!

@MrsFloof

Love the 2 hampers. Floof is going up in the world! One of ours chose a very small basket (the sort you put on the table with a few rolls in) or in our case a very determined black cat ! Topsy RIP.

I managed to get a bargain in Next. I had decided to get some flowers for my friend's birthday and realised I might have to get a vase as well as things go missing a lot in her house (borrowers???!). I went into Next and the cheapest and better looking one was £12. I get to the till and it is £3.50. The next day I decide to get another as I wanted to thank a colleague who sorted out the taxi fiasco (I whined about it on here!) so I got her some flowers and another of the vases. It went down very well as her only other vase is too big! So feel well chuffed!

@Lemonsandlemonade

Yes I was gnashing my teeth at the post office thing. I had kept up with it over the years. If it was a work of fiction we were watching we would all go "Oh as if!"

MissConductUS · 05/01/2024 15:43

Beautiful bird pictures, Hilda. It sounds like you have a lovely day in the Big Smoke.

I recall hearing about the post office scandal, but I'm not sure if it made the news here in the US or if I learned about it on MN. Probably the latter. People have too much trust in computer systems. They just assume that the numbers must be correct. All software has bugs and errors. Still it's horrible about what happened to those people.

I've had my fill of Foyle's War for a bit, so I'm watching No Offence on Acorn now. I've heard two new bits of British slang - jammy and oi. I don't know if those are Manchester terms or common everywhere. The Manchester accent isn't bad, but I'm still glad for the subtitles.

We're expecting proper snow on Saturday night, 5-8 inches in the current forecast. We had very little last winter.

I have a lot of carried over leave from last year I have to use by the end of January, so I'm off work today.
