Hello new people !

You won't regret lurking and then joining! 😁😅!

It will take me a while to remember your names though so appologies I haven't tagged you !!

Tilllly · 21/12/2023 14:56

I've been in a steroid burst of energy, I went to a core strength yoga class, man that was difficult. Then swimming and I've been round Morrisons and now I'm watching TV

Brontosaurus · 21/12/2023 14:58

Hello 👋 I remember these threads from a while back, and some of the regulars, but haven't read any for a while. So, I'm kind of delurking, and kind of not...

I always worry with these long-standing ones that I somehow need to know the backstory of posters so I have some understanding of what you're all talking about. I am also aware that this is silly.

I'm taking a break while DD is sleeping. I'm supposed to be reading but am MN faffing instead.

bizzey · 21/12/2023 14:58

I wanted to finish wrapping this evening...bit I am awaiting a Sainsbury's delivery that I need to finish it.

I ordered some red tissue paper to make a little hamper bag easy for ds1 to take back for gf.

Sainsbury's have replaced the red tissue paper with.....a large white bow !!! 🤣🤣!!

So it looks like I will have to go onto Plan B ....the only trouble is.....
I don't have a plan B 🤣🤣!

Welcome, @Gwraigygof and @Brontosaurus (or welcome back in your case) and thanks for delurking and sharing a bit of your news. Bronto, don't worry about everyone's backstory. You'll pick it up as the thread moves along, and just ask if something doesn't make sense.

Havoc, sorry to hear you're so poorly. You didn't mention running a fever, so it's unlikely to be covid, but keep testing. We are all healthy here, but it was exactly one year ago the whole family had covid at the same time. That pretty much ruined Christmas.

MrsFloof, have your cortisol levels checked annually as part of your physical exam? It's part of the standard blood panel here.

I've just booked my flights to Orlando for the meeting I attend every February. The good news is that get an extra day there with only one meeting in the morning, so it's almost a full day to relax by the pool. And we'll be at the same lovely resort where the meeting was held last year.

MrsFloof · 21/12/2023 16:52

No its never been checked before, only been checked since they found adrenal mass the second time. The tests were coming back normal then dexa came back high now these two have come back high for both for late night but nurse said its not too bad. It was 8.4 and 11.8 for late night cortisol and cortisone was in the 40s.

MrsFloof · 21/12/2023 16:54

Its going to one of the endocrinologists to see what they think. The nurse has been so good as has my lovely oncologist so I nominated them both for the You made a difference awards.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/12/2023 18:58

Hi @Gwraigygof are you a Welsh person like me too?

MrsFloof love the fact you nominated the oncology nurses and doctor.

work done until 8th of Jan.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 21/12/2023 20:09

Hi newbies 👋

Sending good wishes to all the ill people in the hope that it doesn't affect Christmas too much for you all.

Hope your DS joins the holiday Floof sounds exciting. I've never seen a rainforest except in pictures.

Lucky you getting an extra day away MissC.

Do you have any colored paper Bizzey? If you fold it up in a zigzag, so first fold left, second fold right and repeat until it's all folded, using small intervals of 1-2cm, then hold the resulting fan completely closed and cut it into squares, you'll end up with slim zigzags of paper which you can use for decorative packaging.

Trying to summon motivation to do all those things I should have done earlier but didn't.

IWanderedLonely · 21/12/2023 21:32

Lovely to see new posters. Thanks for the new thread Miss
My dull and unexciting news is that we did the last bits of Christmas food shopping this evening. Also my 2 older grandsons (cousins age 9 and 10) have wrangled themselves a sleepover tomorrow night - we're all off to see Father Christmas on Saturday morning. They're no trouble, they get on like a house on fire and never argue.
I finish work at 12 tomorrow and shouldn't need to stay late (fingers crossed)

HelenaJustina · 21/12/2023 22:02

Water came back later in the day, generator still running which is irritating but not insurmountable. Finished last few shopping bits today, took DC to swim training, another DC and friends to ice skating, went to farm shop cafe for coffee with eldest DC first thing and made food shop list. Am shattered but feel I accomplished lots.

Planning to be up super early tomorrow and hit the supermarket at 7am. Eldest DC has said they will come too but not holding my breath as well have to leave at 6:30am.

halfpasteleven · 21/12/2023 23:02

Been recovering from a UTI. Only one more day of antibiotics left and still feel v sore on both sides.
Have a half day in work tomorrow so will hopefully get in and then go back to doctor.
Was supposed to be going for dinner with DP tomorrow night but can't see it happening now.
But look, better to have it this week and not next week.
Hope everyone is doing ok- it's lovely to have this thread amid the Christmas madness.

bizzey · 22/12/2023 01:32

I am overwhelmed with everything that has happened to me today !

Bit my funniest story..

I bought some " cheap " pillowcases for the boys stockings , as I could not be bothered to hunt for the spare ones (!) as at the time I thought gf was needing a stocking as well !!...so need ed to find 8 as I always do a " one I prepared earlier" !
Well ...these "cheap" pillow cases are lovely !

Completely the wrong colour for our beds ...as they are Christmas Red ...
But definitely getting bought again in a different colour.

They feel lovely ...,🤔🤔...or are my pillowcases just very old !!🤣

bizzey · 22/12/2023 01:56

Mallards..thank you .....I will give that a go !

mathanxiety · 22/12/2023 02:11

I got a lot of the grocery shopping done - two supermarkets, Walmart, the oetfood shop, and also Gap and Marshall's (like TKMaxx). I have a nice rump roast for our Christmas dinner

Found gifts for the significant others.

Still to buy - sprouts (they were very scraggly and I'll find better ones at the supermarket near home), orange juice, potatoes, and wine.
Also - leggings for DD4, and lip stuff she said she liked. I need something else for DD3 too, but so far I have had no inspiration, and I also need a thing DS mentioned a few weeks ago. I will hit the shops as soon as I leave work tomorrow. I'm really hoping I'll be able to escape fairly early in the evening.

I got home with all my bags and as I came in the back door, DS arrived through the front door. I have a feeling he floored it all the way.

Brontosaurus · 22/12/2023 08:19

Thanks for the welcome @MissConductUS

I've been watching the Stonehenge livestream for the winter solstice this morning and later DD and I will plant some seeds as a mini celebration. She can help with the big ones like broad beans and sweet peas. I'll do the tiny ones.

Going out for a long walk/trike ride with her first though.

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/12/2023 09:23

Think I’m going slightly mad 🤣. Went looking for a present I thought I had lost of DS’s but then remembered I hadn’t I have wrapped it already 🤓

Enjoy Bronto!

MissConductUS · 22/12/2023 14:38

Bronto, are you in Oz? It's much too cold here to be starting seeds unless it's indoors. It was -7C here this morning, which is the coldest overnight temp we've had so far this winter.

I started my Christmas leave today. I have a bit of shopping to do, and two last minute presents to wrap.

We celebrated DD's birthday last night. She got some books, clothes, and the Apple Watch she wanted. We had chocolate mouse cupcakes from the posh bakery. DS gave her the toaster on her wedding registry. She's off to the city for more shoe shopping.

I saw two ducks on the reservoir yesterday, but they flew off before I could get a picture. It's quite late for them to be this far north.

Hello to all, welcome to the new joiners - I go into hibernation from time to time but am still here and reading. Sorry to hear about the various illnesses and in particular I hope you feel much better soon havoc.

It’s a quiet one on our Christmas front because apart from Christmas Day itself, I'm working the whole of the week. I don’t mind too much as it’s fairly relaxed. We’re sorted for all our preparations - we’re not having turkey this year; we’ve had a giant joint of lamb in the freezer and this seems the ideal time to use it. So it’s coming out to start defrosting late tomorrow night. If I spot a reduced-price turkey at any point I might snap it up, though! The sales are well underway already in London.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2023 20:00

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, Hilda, and everyone. 🩷
Day 3 of covid testing and still negative. 🤞
Just need to test through day 5, so hoping it stays neg! Bit of a sore throat and cough still, but doesn't seem to be getting worse.

Had ultrasound and foetal monitoring at hospital this morning and things look good. ☺️

will read newer updates here later and try to properly respond later. Just had a cheese omelette and some cottage cheese, have a half cup of string tea, put the washing machine on tub clean and think I'll put myself down for a nap. 😂

Did a small shop yesterday for some grocery items I don't need a lot of (as opposed to a Costco shop) and the price of (lactose-free) butter has gone up again. $7.29 for a half pound. Bloody hell. 🤦‍♀️😡
I think that's roughly 4.32GBP or $5.46USD.
Curious if that would that be considered expensive to others. 🤔

MrsFloof · 22/12/2023 20:08

Glad things are looking good with Havoc version 2 Havoc Lactose free butter is around £2.35 for 250g here so yes that's pricey. Normal butter it says has gone up from £1.73 to £1.96 over last year so high inflation.

MrsFloof · 22/12/2023 20:11

Hope you feel better soon Half

Hope your DD had a good birthday MissC

DHs last day at work before 2 weeks off done, he's been playing piano. Got a few collections tomorrow and DH announced today he hadn't got me a present yet and what did I want. I made it easier for him by ordering it myself. 😂At least I get what I want.

MissConductUS · 22/12/2023 20:48

Havoc, that's great news about the baby.

I had to buy butter at the warehouse club today. It was $5 per pound for a nice brand. The problem is that fluid milk consumption is way down in the US, which has led to much higher prices for cream and butter. The warehouse club wasn't bad, but the posh Italian supermarket was a madhouse.

I wrapped the last two presents when I got back. DD is on her way home, not having found wedding shoes at either Kleinfeld Bridal or Macy's. She found a dress that she loved at the bridal shop in a small town in Massachusetts near her uni, but she can't find shoes that she likes in NYC. I'm afraid it's going to white trainers if this keeps up.

Healthy wishes for those of you feeling poorly ...

I have finished !!! I mean really finished 🤣🤣!

All wrapping done .

I mean I thought I had finished an hour ago ...then found more !😅.

The presents that have to leave the house on Christmas morning are in a box in the hallway.

Boys and gf are in big laundry bags in my room .
My room is a tip 🤣🤣!

I think the wrapping was getting the better of me earlier though...

I was wrapping a present...put sellotape on it ....then could not work out why the sides were not folding to tape up...

I had not cut it off the whole roll of paper ..and the cardboard roll was still there 🤣!

Pulled it off...and started again .

Reused the crumbled paper for DB !
He won't care how his presents are wrapped 🤣🤣
