That all sounds very productive, MintJulia! I quite like a busy Christmas Eve too. We're sitting watching an old film now but earlier I made a batch of orange and ginger chocolate truffles and some sourdough cinnamon rolls. I also iced the Christmas cake, so I feel I've done my fair share of preparation for now. (Oh, and I finally wrapped DH's presents!)

bizzey · 24/12/2023 21:30

Hello all ...
Well I am having a bit of a weird Christmas Eve for me ....

I seem to be prepared and ahead of schedule 😲😲😅😅!!

Gammon is in the slow cooker ...not cooking ...just coming upto room temperature sort of thing...

Trays and utensils I need for tomorrow are on the table..

Everything I need to take up to mam's tomorrow bagged and ready ...

I have jinxed it now haven't I 😅😅!

Time for hair wash , bath and face mask I think 🛀🛀 🍷🍷!! 🤣

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/12/2023 21:51

Happy Christmas all hope you all have a lovely day.

MrsFloof · 24/12/2023 21:58

That's lovely Trying

Lots of lovely cooking.

Glad things are much better this Christmas MintJulia

Tried the F&M teabags from the hamper, can't say I can tell the difference over our normal ones but apparently DH can and they are much better. DH is currently playing the piano. Had dinner and about to have a second tea and some F&M lemon curd biscuits in the interests of research, the tin is impressive.

I can hear DS moving things, not sure what. We need to play today's Christmas song though Floof is asleep, all that mousing the toy mouse wore him out.

bizzey · 24/12/2023 22:51

OMG ! I have just had a Epiphany moment ! ( it's amazing what a soak and a face mask can do 😅!)

I have two slow cookers ...and 2 pieces of meat ...

They both fit in the 2 slow cookers .

So now both are " resting " in their assigned slow cooker ...ready to be switched on later .

I don't have to set an alarm for the morning..RESULT !!

Shame the big man in red 🎅 is not visiting tonight...

( not doing it without ds1 !)

He will visit around 3pm on boxing day 🤣🤣!...( when I got got my energy levels back !!)

Happy Christmas/Holidays to you all xx

MrsFloof · 24/12/2023 22:59

DH has gone out to Christmas midnight mass and we played the song for 24th. Getting close now.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2023 00:01

Welcome, @tryingforbaba, @QuestionableMouse, and @MintJulia and thanks for sharing your calming, possibly Christmas related news.

The 4:00 family service at my Episcopal (Anglican to most of you) church was lovely with the kids' pageant and lots of Christmas hymns, including my all-time favorite. And it was grand to have all four of us there.

Merry Christmas to one and all!

I've had a lovely Christmas Eve. Difficult relatives dealt with yesterday. Today and tomorrow is just for us. Cozy Christmas. I've spent the day prepping. All the treat food is stashed in the fridge/cupboard. Everything is tidy and everywhere is clean. Fresh bedding. I've had a nap, a bath, a pedicure and manicure. I ordered a few new clothes in the sale so I have a small something to look forward to in the flat, deflated bit after Christmas. I'm too tired for midnight mass this year so we've been watching TV, ignoring all the proper food in the freezer and eating biscuits and chocolates instead. Now it's time to sleep. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄

Deathraystare · 25/12/2023 12:44

I have just rammed a nuked lasagne down my gullet and waiting fir a taxi tijpuck me up to take me to work!!!

MrsFloof · 25/12/2023 13:04

Merry Christmas everyone.

Deathraystare · 25/12/2023 14:29

Talking g of taxis........ not turned up. I tried to call them but there was a 30 minute message how wonderful they are. I rang my colleague who got sme. She rang again and got someone who said no record of my booking (block booking as NHS).but guy recognised my name so they are on their way apparently.

Honestly, we get this every year. I know it is a bust time but it give me panick attacks. Plus realising it will take up to 2 hours to get a taxi coming when I leave!!!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 25/12/2023 14:29

Hope your day is ok Death. Do you mind working on Christmas Day? I used to work over Christmas sometimes and always found it quite cheerful.

What is it with cats and boxes Floof? 😁

I've been listening to Christmas music all morning eating Christmas cake for breakfast. Waiting now for my visitor to arrive. Hope everyone has a great day.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2023 16:06

Happy and or Merry Christmas as it pleases you!

Good luck with your transportation issues, Death.

Floof is looking regal as usual.

Mallards, I think they like boxes because they have an instinctual drive to find places that offer some protection from predators.

We've opened presents and are getting ready to go to my brother's house for Christmas dinner. The ginger boy is still under the tree. I can't tell if he's happy about the presents being gone or not.

Oh @Deathraystare that’s so stressful - I hope you got there in the end without too much panic for you. I’ve had an almost exactly similar situation myself, also work-related, and it’s so very frustrating.

Hope everyone is having a peaceful Christmas, whatever they’re doing.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/12/2023 19:42

Merry Christmas everyone. ☺️

Just going to have breakfast. I made bread pudding with pain au chocolate, cinnamon apples and caramel sauce. I do a version of this every year. 😛
Still not well, cough seems worse. 😥
Still covid neg, though. 😁
I'm wondering if it's rsv as I've never had a "cold" like this. 🤔

Managed to make dinner and dessert last night as planned. Spaghetti with garlic cream, prawns, scallops, spinach, asparagus and green onion sprinkled on top. Dessert was gingerbread cake, caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. I adjusted the recipe from last year and it turned out delicious. 😅

I guess everyone has had their Christmas lunch by now and is rubbing a full tum? 😂

MrsFloof · 25/12/2023 23:19

Hope you feel better soon Havoc and hope you managed a lovely day with your family.

We did have Christmas dinner, turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, sprouts, carrots and then Christmas pudding and cream for dessert. Also had 2 of the lemon curd F&M biscuits, 1 of their pistachio and clotted cream ones and 4 champagne truffles, all excellent. DS ate all his dinner and pudding, would not come to table though, and initially wasn't opening his presents. I explained and DD explained to him what they all were and next time 3 were open then time after all were open. And all appear to be being used.

Hope everyone had a lovely day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/12/2023 05:18

I'm happy to report the whole roast duck I cooked was good! (Not perfect, but good)😀
Also made cranberry sauce, roasted potatoes and carrots, dressing (stuffing, but c

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/12/2023 05:38

Accidentally posted before finishing:
Dinner was duck, gravy, dressing, roasted potatoes and carrots and cranberry sauce.
Going to have left-over gingerbread cake with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream shortly.

Legs and feet have swelled up considerably despite using compression cuffs today for over an hour, so plan to do it again before bed.
currently wearing compression socks, but I think I am past that. Ankles look like elephant ankles and feet are now shaped like bricks.

Mrs, your dinner sounds great! Awesome your ds ate dinner!!!!
Death, how was work? Did you manage some sort of special dinner?
Miss, how was dinner at tour brothers'?
You are three hours ahead there... are you home and tucked in now? ☺️

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. 🩷

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/12/2023 06:41

Hope you had a lovely Christmas Day mint. Sounds like a really rubbish couple of years.

Floof you more or less had the same as your lunch. Am pleased your DS ate dinner and enjoyed his pressies.

Havoc the joys of growing a small human ay! I remember when my feet swelled my midwife said drink loads and loads of water.

our Christmas Day was absolutely lovely. DS was a delight. He got so excited seeing that Santa had eaten his biscuit and drank his milk and that rudolf had eaten the carrot .

I cooked lunch roast turkey, two different stuffing, pigs in blankets, mashed swede, homemade red cabbage, carrots, sprouts, roast potatoes roast parsnips then Christmas pudding and either cream brandy butter or brandy cream for pudding.

Deathraystare · 26/12/2023 07:49

@Mumtobabyhavoc @HildaTablet @MissConductUS @MallardsMoorhensAndLethe

Thanks everyone. I do find the wait for the taxi stressful, I can't help it! I got my evening taxi ok though I had to phone first to check. My morning taxi (this morning) came dead on 6am and I got to work in 10 minutes. I am sure here in London the buses were actually running but I kept quiet because that early in the morning it was quite nice to get a taxi even though usually I am not a taxi person.

I don't mind working on the day as I would not be doing anything else really. My meal when I got home was some veggies in a microwaveable pot (leeks, broc, peas) with stirred in butter and garlic soft cheese stirred in. Then a few glasses (actually I don't have glasses. I some one of those picnic plastic tumblers full of Shiraz (about 3) then a tin of Espresso Martini. There was nothing on I wanted to watch so just went down the youtube route and then bed as I was getting up early.

I just count my blessings that I am not dealing with bolshie ungrateful kids, an indifferent or lazy spouse and bloody awful in Laws!

bizzey · 26/12/2023 13:26

Lovely to hear everyone's Christmas news .

My cooking went down a treat !! 😅..

Even ds2 who doesn't really like turkey ....said it was the best he had tasted 😲🙃🤩🥳!

I did buy some disposable trays to help with the cooking and washing up which was invaluable.

Mam obviously doesn't have an aray of cooking things as she lives on her own ...and doesn't cook..
I prepped what I could at my house and then we took it up...10 mins walk..

I know disposable trays are not a good thing ...but ohhh my !

The boys and I had her kitchen washed, dried and immaculate in 30 mins ! 😲😅!

Played a simple game ...Spin the wheel.
Oldies against the youngsters ....

Oldies won !🎖️🎖️🎖️....

Pure fluke really ...as that is the type of game it is ...but I will take the win....!

Going to quickly hoover now ....

And then catch up on some TV that I missed yesterday.

Then......put all their presents under the tree 🎄🎄!!

Ds3 has to go upto mam's to put her bins out and collect some extra food that she says she will not eat and we need it more....

And then ...ta..daaaaa... Christmas starts again as Santa will have been !!!

Really hard having to adapt to new traditions!!

Hope you all have a lovely relaxing day 🍷🍷.

bizzey · 26/12/2023 13:28

Havoc ...I forgot to say ...are your test still negative?
Hope everything goes as planned for you...

MissConductUS · 26/12/2023 13:58

Havoc, the edema is concerning. Is there a walk-in clinic you can get to today or tomorrow? Dinner at my brother's house was lovely. We got home at about 8:00, and the cats were annoyed that dinner was late.

DS and one of his friends from uni are off to Washington, D.C. today for a few days of sightseeing. I'm trying to clean up from Christmas. We have lots of leftover cookies.

bizzey · 26/12/2023 15:49

It is actually quite nice waiting for ds to come home tonight...

It feels like Christmas can now finally begin !!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/12/2023 17:47

Quick reply as have rushed to get Havoc breakfast, folded and put away laundry and another load in the wash and now back in bed. Damn cough is so much worse at night no matter how I try to sleep or prop myself up could only sleep an hour at a time before coughing fits.

Miss, my ankles, then feet then calves and thighs swelled in last couole days with Havoc. Was quite bad with high BP night before I went to hospital. Seems same pattern now. However, legs were aching last night for a few hours because of it. BP was higher than usual but not troubling. I'll check it again today.

Obgyn is working at hospital all week and checking messages at her office if I need her. 😅

Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone.
Lemons, yes, drinking lots of water. ☺️
