Well done, bizzey - I haven’t even started any wrapping yet. Mind you, I’ve only got DH's gifts to do. My other family live a long distance away and I had to get all their presents sorted and delivered a few weeks ago. So wrapping for DH will be a job for tomorrow or Sunday. I’ve got one large gift for him which I don’t think I’ll bother wrapping as it’s in a cardboard box and he's got a good idea I’ve bought it for him, so not much point (but there are some others as well).

MissC, I expect brides in sneakers do happen but hopefully your DD has plenty of time to find some shoes she likes!

That butter sounds crazily expensive Havoc. As MrsFloof says, you can get it here at a premium compared to normal butter, but still nothing like £4 for half a pound.

Tilllly · 22/12/2023 23:39

I had a work meeting

Came home to find chunk of roof hanging precariously

Have heartburn and constipation (assuming not linked)

DS2 failed driving test and is really upset - far more than I expected

DH has a cold ebola, possibly the Black Death

It's been a rough day

bizzey · 22/12/2023 23:55

Oh Tillly ..was that your ds 1st test ?

As we know , it is " good " for our DC's to learn to cope with disappointment..bit still hard to watch 😞.

I am embarrassed to say I did a quick calculation of how many presents I have wrapped .😲😲!

Cough ..60 cough!!!

No wonder I was overwhelmed 🤣🤣!

But that does include wrapping the stocking presents individually....well some of them 😜!

Lots are little things .

I suppose I should say 60 individual items ...

And that does include the small pack of smarties in their stockings !

Thinking about it ...I didn't wrap their chocolate this year 🤔🤔!

Maybe it's best not to dwell on it 🤣🤣

bizzey · 22/12/2023 23:59

OMG !!!

if you add in the presents I have had to wrap on behalf of mam ...

It is off the scale !

I am quite looking forward to housework tomorrow now and not having to deal with paper and sellotape!

bizzey · 23/12/2023 00:00

Ohhh ...and I am back upto 100 million gift tags again ...as I found them 🤣

Lemonsandlemonade · 23/12/2023 06:07

Havoc am glad scan went well.

MissC I remember having trouble finding shoes for my wedding as I don’t wear heals. Hope your DD finds some.

Bizzey I love wrapping pressies but this year it’s been a bit of a chore.

DS very very excited he is seeing his best buddy today. He is bouncing round the room.

Brontosaurus · 23/12/2023 09:07

MissC I'm in the south of England. It’s just a few winter-friendly things that can germinate in the mini greenhouse. Sweet peas, broad beans, a winter lettuce and some lambs lettuce.

MrsFloof · 23/12/2023 10:44

I was the same as your DD MissC first wedding dress I tried on I loved and we got, was also half price but the most beautiful dress and from a country wedding shop and then shoes it took me much longer. Which was odd really as it was a very long dress and could not see that much of the shoes. I ended up getting some from a shop on Oxford Street in the end.

Not started wrapping either here Hilda

Last day of collecting things today - 5 shops to get things from, largely the food orders. Butchers for turkey, pigs in blankets, veg, Christmas pudding, cheese, cake shop for hot choc, brownies gingerbread and chelsea buns and chocolate buns, a small F&M hamper of food from collection point, though the hamper is largely for Floof but has biscuits in and champagne truffles and strawberry jam and tea bags then Dunelm for a few home things and Curry's for DSs nintendo and game. We also need to tidy the dining room before Christmas day and a swimming maybe but not sure of order on that.

That's lovely about your DS Lemons

How lovely to have a mini greenhouse Bronto

Floof was very cute when I told him I had bought him a Christmas cracker for cats and I think he said his first sentence. 😎I then said do you want to open it now Floof and got another Ah. Then who do you want to open it with and he rolled over with his little paws tucked in but didn't respond to anyone and I added its big Floof do you think you can do it by yourself and he went Ah for yes and stretched his front paws as if he was trying to hold a big item. He loves long words and ch as its chicken and cat as that's him. He is super excited about Christmas, loves the trees, loves the songs and jumps by the gramophone when it plays.

MissConductUS · 23/12/2023 11:30

Tillly, sorry to hear about your DH's life-threatening illness minor respiratory virus. Is he wearing the dressing gown of doom? Has normal ambulation turned into the shuffle of death? 😂

Bronto, I had forgotten how common greenhouses are in the UK. How lovely that you have one. When my kids were little they loved helping out with the plants I grow on our deck. DD has several plants that go back and forth to uni with her.

Lemons and MrsFloof, it is reassuring that DD is not the only one who struggled to find wedding shoes. I think DD did really well with her dress, and it was about a third less in the little bridal shop in rural Massachusettes than it would have cost here in suburban NYC.

MissC Oh that's beautiful!

I'd love a proper greenhouse. Mine is just a little one like this. But it does the job!

bizzey · 23/12/2023 13:08

Ohh MissC ...that dress is beautiful 🤩!

My meat has been delivered..and fits in the fridge which is a relief!

House work now ...

and to find a place to put the new large slow cooker I bought to cook the gammon in .

Toaster will have to get put away, so I hope no one wants toast over the next few days 🤣!

bizzey · 23/12/2023 13:13

If anyone has a foolproof way of cooking gammon in the slow cooker I would be grateful!!

When I say foolproof ....I really mean ...an idiots guide to cooking Gammon sort of thing 🤣 !

As in ...pretend you are explaining it all to a 10 year old !

I have cooked it various ways over the past few years ...

Everyone has said it was nice ....but just want to try something different this time .

I have coke ...(unsure of sugar content.... supermarket own ...cheap !!)
Apple juice..
Cloves...
Honey..
Mustard...

bizzey · 23/12/2023 13:14

I will still put in oven for last bit.

MrsFloof · 23/12/2023 13:22

Beautiful dress MissC The shoes are a little tricker I think as you want to see how they are with the dress but can't take the dress. I had a similar length dress and you need heels really (which I wanted anyway) but also need to be able to walk in them on uneven surfaces in a floor length dress, think mine had block heels in the end which worked OK. Though it can be worth having a second more comfortable pair for dancing in or just walking in if heels are getting a bit much.

Love the greenhouse Bronto

Now collected the cake order, Dunelm and Currys so 2 to go. F&M hamper has arrived at the second of those but not the Boden one. Just played the Christmas song for the cat. He purred.

KingscoteStaff · 23/12/2023 13:53

The man in the cheese shop had a special knife to cut tiny slices to taste. It had its own special case.

We bought all the cheese…

LindyLou2020 · 23/12/2023 13:59

I am literally BURSTING........BURSTING, I tell you, to announce my news to you all today.....
I am still needing to take Naproxen and Tramadol for post-operative pain, 'though in much less quantities than prior to my surgery.
As you will know, strong prescribed painkillers can cause constipation.
I have found a wonderful pill called Ducolease, which is a stool softener, and much gentler than products containing senna.
I have had the most satisfying poo today..........just thought I'd share that with you.
I just know you will be as delighted as I am.......

sueelleker · 23/12/2023 14:26

LindyLou2020; I am delighted for you-I'm having similar problems, as I'm taking dihydrocodeine for my back injury. I also use Dulcoease.

@sueelleker It's miraculous, is it not? We can celebrate together! 🤗
Spread the word!
And I've just realised you've spelt it properly, and I haven't 🤦‍♀️

MrsFloof · 23/12/2023 15:37

Aww Tilllly Sorry just realised I never said how sorry I was about your DSs driving test. I would imagine its makes them better drivers not passing the first time but horrible experience for him esp when his Mum's on chemo. Sending love to you all. Hope Christmas can cheer him up.

MrsFloof · 23/12/2023 15:40

Message from DH that he has the things from the butcher and is now off to get food for the girl pets then Post Office. I sent a message back from Floof to say don't forget the boy pets. Boys need food too.

Floof is an eating machine.

KathieFerrars · 23/12/2023 19:36

Hello all. I unwrapped the seemingly gold plated, hand massaged by angels turkey from its wrapping as per instructions from the farm (why have I spent so much money on some meat?). Discovered that I had no gelatine for the smoked salmon terrine so that necessitated a trip to waitrose. Lovely dog walk this morning. Son 1 (autism plus multiple other nerodiverse conditions) has invited us to lunch on Boxing Day as I am cooking on Christmas day. He came over today and did my hoovering for me so house is mud free!

MissConductUS · 23/12/2023 20:44

Welcome, @KathieFerrars, and thanks for sharing your calming holiday preparation news. You’ll have to let us know how the posh farm raised turkey came out.

I’m impressed that your son hoovered for you. Mine lives with us and doesn’t clean, but he does help with the cooking and shopping.

Sounds like Christmas food collection is well under way MrsFloof. Is the F and M hamper yummy?

Lovely dress MissC

DS loved being with best friend today.

Had something awful happen today shortly after my previous message. DS fell down a flight of stairs top to bottom. He was shook up but not hurt. Didn’t bang head etc etc. I feel absolutely terrible about it.

MrsFloof · 23/12/2023 21:13

Its only a small hamper Lemons this one here https://www.fortnumandmason.com/the-thank-you-hamper

Its mainly for the hamper to see if Floof wants to go in it but have had a couple of champagne truffles and they are really nice. Told DH to hide the rest from me. 😂Hoping DS doesn't discover them in the night though he's normally very anti alcohol and we also have chocolate brownies, chocolate buns, chelsea buns, hot chocolate bombs, gingerbread men. There must be some limit on how much sugary things DS can eat in 1 night. Sorry about your DS but glad you had a good playdate.

Tilllly · 23/12/2023 22:47

@bizzey @MrsFloof
Yes, first test. Not really sure why he was in such a state as he didn't feel he'd pass - tho he's perfectly competent. Just didn't go well on the day. He's just having a hard time with various things at the moment

@MissConductUS
He'll be under the patio at this rate
Melodramatic coughs, sighs, poorly voice

Honestly, I'm 3 days post chemo/immuno with all the usual joys, trying to sort everything for Cmas, and he wants sympathy for a cold....
