Ohhh ...and I have decided I am going to get my bonfire bin out tomorrow and see if it will work !

As you all know....I am a hoarder and collector and keeper of everything!!

While looking for something else tonight...I have realised I have way too much paperwork being "kept safe/stored " !

Tomorrow is a dry day ...so I am going on a ruthless mission !!

🔥🔥🚒🚒👨‍🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒🚨🧑‍🚒🧯🧯🧯🧯🧯🤣😀😉🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️!

bizzey · 14/02/2024 23:54

Hopefully....I will then find my mislaid passport 🤣🤣!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/02/2024 03:17

Math, Glad to hear you will get your tire fixed. 😄👍
Bizzey, I too came to that realization... need to cull papers, too. 🤦‍♀️
Penguinsa, sounds like some nice Valentine's Day treats! 😋

I haven't officially given up anything for Lent, but I haven't had chocolate today. I did buy a red velvet cake for dessert, but that's not really chocolate, just a bit of cocoa. 🤷‍♀️

Dinner is almost ready: salmon, prawns, asparagus, potatoes. Breakfast was coconut pancakes with fresh berries.
Snow is in the forecast for later this week and possibly next...hmmm, we'll see, but it is getting colder.
Took Havoc to Vandusen Gardens today. it was a nice way to spend a couple hours in the sun.

Penguinsa · 15/02/2024 03:38

Lovely food as always Havoc

Poor DH was working until 3am, at least its all from home.

I now have the very exciting and glamourous task of collecting all my urine for 48 hours until 9pm on Friday for endocrinology to test cortisol as its been high before and benign adrenal tumour. Take it in on Monday.

Currently drinking tea and had 2 of the lemon curd biscuits, grabbing them before DS eats the rest, he's already snaffled most of one packet.

Tilllly · 15/02/2024 04:40

Lemon curd biscuits sound lush @Penguinsa

Penguinsa · 15/02/2024 05:59

They are excellent Tilllly and no doubt have all gone now.

bizzey · 15/02/2024 09:08

Ohh boy !
Whatever was brewing has taken full hold this morning 😭😭!

The pain is awful !

Not my swallowing part of throat ...lower down ..

So I think it is Laryngitis 😭.😩.

Think the bonfire might have to wait !

bizzey · 15/02/2024 11:12

My shopping delivery arrived ...1 hour and 15 mins early!!

No notification or anything..
Usually , they phone me to ask if it is ok.

I wasn't prepared 😅.

Still ....at least I can make my warm drink now !

HelenaJustina · 15/02/2024 19:20

DH and I are having our Valentines Meal tonight, as last night 8pm Mass and a 00:30am pick up from a school trip put a dampener on any romantic shenanigans. Tonight we only have a 7pm and 9pm swim run to contend with!

MissConductUS · 15/02/2024 20:37

Helena, what's on the menu for your Valentine's meal?

Monday is a holiday, so DD is driving home tomorrow to spend time with her fiancee before their coursework becomes too intense. We won't see much of her, but it will be nice to have her home.

I've just ordered a small ultrasonic humidifier for my office from Amazon. It's so dry with the heating on that it's doing bad things to my skin.

What's the holiday for Miss ?

It's President's Day, also known as Washington's Birthday. It goes back to that dust-up we had with mad King George III.

Ahh, right, thanks. How many bank/public holidays do you have in a year and is it the same for every state?

Penguinsa · 15/02/2024 22:00

Hope you feel better soon Bizzey

Have a nice bank holiday MissC

Enjoy Valentine's dinner Helena

We had a Chinese takeaway for DS and us and DD went out for a delayed Valentine's meal with her boyfriend and has come back with 12 roses. DH is still working but should calm down from now.

Floof lay on the bed and DH lay down next to him and Floof put his paw to cuddle DH and DH said I love you Floof.

mathanxiety · 15/02/2024 22:09

We get 13 public holidays in Illinois, including Pulaski Day (a Monday in the first week of March) and Lincoln's Birthday, a Monday in mid February (the 12th this year). There are several weeks in the spring semester when students get a Monday off. Lincoln's Birthday, Presidents' Day, and Pulaski Day follow each other in quick succession.

Penguinsa · 15/02/2024 23:00

Vase has been found for the flowers and DD has just got an invite for an offer holders day at Oxford.

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 16/02/2024 04:39

Bizzey keep some lemon and ginger tea in your cupboards if you're always running out of lemsip, you can have that alongside your tablets next time.

Penguinsa we had cake for valentine's day treat.

Hilda that's so sweet to save the toads.

MissConductUS · 16/02/2024 20:52

As Math has said, there are eleven Federal Holiday plus whatever ones the states care to add. These are the Federal ones:

Federal Holidays

  • New Year’s Day January 1
  • Martin Luther King’s Birthday 3rd Monday in January
  • Washington’s Birthday 3rd Monday in February
  • Memorial Day last Monday in May
  • Juneteenth National Independence Day June 19
  • Independence Day July 4
  • Labor Day 1st Monday in September
  • Columbus Day 2nd Monday in October
  • Veterans’ Day November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day 4th Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day December 25

Massachusettes has Patriots' Day, which commemorates certain battles of the American Revolutionary War. Sadly, New York has no additional holidays.

Bizzey, I hope you're feeling better.

DD has informed us that she's driving straight to dinner with her fiancee and will be home after that, so fairly late tonight. The forecast calls for a bit of snow, but not until after midnight. It's been very cold and windy here this week. I'm looking forward to my brief trip to Orlando next week.

Hay all have been catching up with the thread.

Had a tough few days here. Ds had been running a temperature of 39 for two days. On day 3 I took him to doctors as he was lethargic and Calpol and nuropen not bringing temperature down. Turns out he has had a throat infection and is now in antibiotics which he hates.

Today he ate dinner for the first time in 5 days.

In other news DM is a bit down at moment lots of losses and illness have got to her.

Oh no Bizzey I say island and not roundabout 😂😂. Do they have them in America? I was under the impression they don't tend to?!

Miss C love the snow pictures

Tilllly · 16/02/2024 22:15

How're you feeling @bizzey ?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/02/2024 22:19

Oh, no Lemons. I'm sorry to hear about your ds. I hope he's better soon 🩷Also re your dm. Life can be difficult.

We say round-abouts here for the round traffic islands in the middle of intersections instead of stop signs or traffic lights. Coincidently, it's been in the news this week about how we aren't very good or confident using them as they're relatively uncommon here.

Islands are sort of interchangeable with boulevards referring to raised dividers between directions of traffic. Islands can also be painted. Boulevards are also the grassy areas along the sidewalk between the curb and sidewalk.

Math, Miss it sounds like you get more holidays down there than us up here. It's a long weekend here in BC, though with Family Day on Monday. Public schools are on break next week, privates were this week, and I think it's Reading Break for colleges and universities next week as well (around now anyway). Family Day is relatively new in BC and came about because we couldn't suffer the winter months after the New Year to Good Friday without a long weekend. (Pretty much the truth!). A few other provinces had one before us and we followed.

The snow forecasted is no longer showing on my weather app. It's beautifully sunny now and 11c. 😎
Have just had left-over crab and oesto ouzza and a pear for lunch. Going to nake s latte and have the last slice of red velvet cake. Will try to be iff sweets until Easter, I think. 🤷‍♀️

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 16/02/2024 22:24

That's fascinating MissC, much more organised. In the UK we have Bank Holidays and no real idea why. We just like them because for a lot of people it means a day off work or school.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/02/2024 22:36

Had to Google, (the nerd I really am...) 🤓
UK "bank" holidays came about because banks would close on certain saints' days and then other institutions adopted the tradition.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/02/2024 22:39

Toddler and baby are asleep!!!
I am rejoicing with cake and a latte. It is a "Calgon, take me away" moment...😂😂😂*

*an old tv commercial for bubble bath I remember from when I was a kid

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/02/2024 00:08

Yay havoc - enjoy the cake.

DS is awake ( it's midnight here) in his room as I am not letting him into my bed. When he is ill I do so I keep an eye on him. I am thinking of getting a blow up mattress for his room so when he is ill he is in his room but I am too.
